    Hi Sam, thanks for your tutorial. It helps a lot with my foil progression. The explanation is very clear and the demo-videos are perfect to understand the maneuvers. Congrats for the delivery, it’s very pro.

    Dang! You make it look so easy! I started foiling in La Ventana this past winter and only at the end of the season was I feeling comfortable enough to attempt a jibe (notice the spelling, the way I’ve seen it most often). I never felt that I had a framework for how to do it. (I can rip jibes on my surfboard but for some reason foiling just wigs me out and it feels different.)
    Awesome vid, thanks, cheers

      Cheers mate, it just takes a long time of practicing to make it look easy. I've been foiling for 5 years and only now am I getting my tacks and jibes consistent

    Like a few others I can do it on the surfboard, but it seems as I come around to toeside with the foil things seems so unsteady and I always crash.
    I guess I have fear about the flying knife is going to get me.

      @SamLight  Před 4 lety

    Jibing and staying on your toes side without stance change is not a problem in itself, but the key aspect of jibe is to control the kite and prevent line slack. That is not covered here and I find that crucial part. I am still learning jibe but if you don't do downloop on a jibe, kite stays behind you and you can't finish the jibe as it loses power.

    Hey Sam nice video. Do you have a how to fly your kite video for beginners who are first getting into the sport. If you didn't that could be a fun video for you to make if you can go out in your yard and fly a kite. Also you should do more kite boarding workout videos. I enjoyed the last one you made

    Is some of the footage from Green Island? Great video. I always thought the best advice was to not fall off, when all this time I should have been aspiring to ride away like a badass! Can’t wait to get back on the water and practice.
    Those of us conversant in the Queen’s English ought to be watching to improve our gybes. The colonials tend to prefer the alternative spelling. But no one cares and if you can foil all the way round you deserve to spell it however you fancy!

    I just came here to say that you _don't_ need to know how to foot swap in order to learn how to gybe. I think that gybing is a much easier skill than foot swapping, and I did thousands of gybes before I started working seriously on learning how to foot swap. That is, I think that riding toeside is easier than foot swapping.
    You may disagree, and that's fine, but it's important for new foilers to understand that they do have a choice. They can learn to foot swap, or, ... not.

    • @OneWheelGuy1
      @OneWheelGuy1 Před rokem

      I totally agree about always gybing with your dominant foot forwards - I just do that without the foot swap

    Hey Sam - great tutorial thanks! So, I’m trying to learn how to toeside on a foil - would you recommend first learning to switch your feet to ride toeside - or learn how to gybe to get round to toeside?

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey, no worries thanks mate! Yea I would definitely recommend learning to gybe round to toeside first, then you can practice your toeside riding before switching your feet. Just got to stick with it, it takes time.. 😄
