I don't think they realized what they just heard. The impact of this song in metal history.
There is no Way to smile while watching this Video...it's a huge message in this Song that not everbody will discover. Anyway, this is a great Piece of Music History.
Remember this they wrote this in their mid twenties masterpiece...ponder that awhile...cheers from kansas city
They really were the Beethoven of heavy metal the first three albums alone sounded like something that Amandus, Bach, Paganini and Tchaikovsky would do if they decided to get together to form a heavy metal band which was amazing considering that before he died Cliff Burton was the oldest member and he died at the age of 24 and Master of Puppets was his last album
Now they couldn't write a song even remotely this good. Too many bandmate swaps and musical directions and styles have killed Metallica for me.
This song is very closely related to the movie _Johnny Got His Gun._ That movie was based on a book of the same name, loosely based on a true story of a Canadian soldier. Anyway, James Hetfield came up with a similar idea in a band meeting one day and his manager suggested he read that book. Metallica ended up buying the rights to the movie and incorporating scenes into the video.
...Edited to correct title...
well ofc they’d give em rights after they head this bad ass song
I think you wrote the name of movie and book wrong. It's "Johnny Got His Gun"
@@haso5 LOL!! Oh my goodness. Thank you for letting me know. 👍
Lol no like from the creaters.... Your information got lost in the Matrix my Dude hehe
actually James read the book because of his older brother
This is such an important song and video in metal history.
It's really sad to see how Metallica, who were the top of their game here seemed to have faded into obscurity now. So many bad business decisions, the Napster debacle, veering away from their Metal roots have damned near killed Metallica for me. At least I can still listen to Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets.
@@kiillabytez Hater😂😂😂
@@cristealaurentiu2440 sheepish fanboy.
@@kiillabytez 30+ years a fan, yes!
Agree. It's a masterpiece.
I'm glad that you reacted to this, but I can't understand how members of a metal band have never heard so many metallica and pantera songs....
They need views bro
Ive heard many metallica songs but i havent heard much pantera. I could prolly only name 1 or 2 pantera songs.
Of course they did, they are just pretending not knowing song because they want more views.
Being metal head and not knowing Metallica songs is like being basketball fan but not knowing who’s Micheal Jordan 😒
Hahaha I'm still wondering the same
@death21metal when you discover heavy-metal usually you start listening bands well known like Metallica,Pantera,Iron Maiden,Slayer, Megadeth, after this people usually discover heavier bands.
I’m 42 years old and AC/DC,Queen, Bon Jovi got me in to rock music after this I got Metallica Black album and this album got me hooked into haevier stuff.
I get legit everytime goosebumps when I listen to this song
You both seemed unaware of how dark this song is. I hoped you watched this again and listened to the song lyrics and the movie dialogue.
ONE: Was the song that won me over to Metallica. I still have the cassette from back then.
As musicians I’m sure you are easily drawn to the music more. I say watch it again and focus on the video. When you know the song and what’s it about, the visualization just adds to the depth of the song. The song is already bad ass with the way it’s structured but with the video it’s just crazy!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Best album of Metallica, enjoy And Justice For All. I am almost 50 years old, I am from Pamplona (Spain), in my city I saw Metallica in 1988, I was impressed and ecstatic with those four artists. Thanks for reacting to this clip.
ONE of the greatest songs ever written!
It's a great song yes, but one of the greatest? Not even close.
@@kiillabytez easy in top 10 ever!
@@cristealaurentiu2440 Depends on who you ask.
@@cristealaurentiu2440 Let's put it this way, remove the video portion and it's a good song. With the video, it's just better.
@@kiillabytez lol you're funny kid 😂😂
Imagine having no arms, legs, speech, hearing or sight. Trapped in your own mind in darkness. Pure hell.
I’m really enjoying y’all’s reaction to Metallica. Yes, this song was emotionally driven and I also love that they played for a great cause. It’s not common for a band or artist to create music that touches on the humanities and not just about partying, sex, money, anti government topics. If you want to hear another of their emotionally driven and meaningful songs then try “ Fade To Black”. Very deep and their outro is one of the deepest. IMHO.
You can hear their grief over cliff’s loss in every song on this album 😭😭😭😭😭😭
No...., not really. They were sure ready to quickly find a replacement weren't they.
Master Of Puppets: 1986
And Justice For All: 1988
It takes roughly 1-2 years to write and record and album. 6-months to a year was spent finding a Bass player replacement, then teaching him the songs and the business side of the band. So that left not a lot of time to find a bass player. I'd say immediately following the funeral, they began searching for a new bassist and writing and recording the album.
One of the best songs in the history of metal music.
Thx The Wolf Hunterz
Oh man. This is one those songs that always gives me chills
I remember wanting MTV to play this video Constantly in the early 90s
what a work of art a fucking masterpiece
Hate to admit it but towards the end when the timing changed up, I laughed when they looked confused and she started to awkwardly try keep in time.
The look on her face was like "hold up, is it like this? No, how about this? Jeezus!"
It is indeed from a real movie that is based on a real book, "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo. I have it on my shelf and have read it many times. It was at one time banned by the US government during the Vietnam War.
The book and the movie are about a young, idealistic WW1 American soldier who gets hit by a mortar. He loses his arms, legs, ears, eyes and face. He is kept alive inside an iron lung. The doctors believe he is unconscious, but he is not. He is still very much conscious, but has no way to communicate to the outside world. He struggles in his head with the awful conclusion of his idealogical foolishness, and with various ideas of how he might find a way to communicate. He argues with Jesus, with his father, with his now dead fellow soldiers. Finally he hits upon morse code. His nurse sees him banging the back of his head against his pillow and slowly realizes what he's doing. She answers by tapping her fingers against his chest.
In the end he decides he wants to be taken to Washington to be paraded before the politicians and the people so that they might see with their own eyes the horror their policies and war lust have wrought. The generals tell him no though, and they then leave him alone in the dark with his nurse to rot in some distant, forgotten place where no one else will learn the truth. It's a good book.
The Goosebumps 🤘🔥🖤🙌
Orion is the most complete and utterly masterful piece of iconic history. Such a simple yet majestic work of art. Hope You consider this suggestion.
once again... a time when each band member held there own ground.......
Now, they get songwriting advice from Lady Gaga.
They just had a recent case of a man in a 12 year coma who woke up, doctors were horrified to learn he could hear, see& feel everything, he couldn't respond. That would be torture for me
That’s fucking insane.
If you thought this was emotional. You guys have to experience there best song hands down called Fade to Black
The samples are deep af realities of war
Fade to black could be the next natural choice!both live or studio version..for me even more emotional of this...lirically and musically!great reaction guys!🥰hugs from Italy😘
Fade to black, i prefer studio version, the kirk solo there is masterclass.
Live from Bologna Italy, absolutely insane!
@@adamkovac1991 exactly!as Italian...is the best performance I've ever heard!the crowd "singing" the guitar's solos..no words!fantastic!
@@alessandrafato5654 That crowd was lovely! i hate dead crowds like every year on metallica i was in Prague (i am from Slovakia).. and that one from Bologna, yeah - kirk fckn nailed it! Solo like from another galaxy
@@adamkovac1991 We...Italian people have hot blood through our veins ...we live passionately everything.. maybe in common with you...people of East Europe👍🤟
Such a classic
I honestly can't wrap my head around anyone not having heard this song.
Why? It's not like it gets radio play everywhere.
yeah us older or baby boomers and gen x grew when radio stations played music. This generation is deprived of real music and why you see SO MANY reaction channels on YT. Im fortunate enough to see them and Queensryche Live in 1989.
@@mitchand9 ive heard this song on regular ass radio like 4 times this month lol
I dunno, this song is so powerful - i don't think I could just bob my head around like these two without smashing something or breaking down in tears.
I don't know. People seem so dumb now. 9/10 reactions were ignorant or inappropriate. Nobody seems to understand what the music is about or what the video is.
You have issues.
@@TaterTot88244 Who are YOU to judge how somebody should react to something?
Maybe some people don't take it THAT seriously?
They gave their opinions, and since it didn't align with yours you call them dumb?
Your user name fits you perfectly.
@@kiillabytez Yes probably, but don't we all?
@@luyendao8295 I don't think there are many who hear a song and start breaking shit. That's just mental.
Obra maestra del metal!! 👌👌
I refuse to believe that a metal band hasn't heard this song. Metallica - The biggest metal band of all time, and One - Easily top 5 Metallica songs
The video is clips from Johnny Got His Gun. I want to see this film but Metallica own the rights to it and they won't release it.
Exactly agreed.
Yes, "One" is emotional song, but "Fade to black" and "To live is to die" are more emotional songs of Metallica.May be and Orion :)
Orion is not emotional. Orion is so much more - more like transcendental complex experience 🤘🏻
But "One" is by far more legendary
Orion..... masterpiece.... funeral music..... tears in my eyes
Agree
Agree
Creeping Death Moscow 91 must see, vote this up hah
I love this song because it shows the connection between metal and classical music
My favourite of theirs. Powerful from beginning to end. And the video wow.
Great job with your reaction to ONE from Mettlica .
If only cliff was alive for this. There would be a earth shattering bass solo.
One of my all time Favorite and never gets old its just an awesome piece of Music History……
Love you guys. Love from Portugal.
One of my fav songs of all time! Video always gives me chills
i know this video is old metallica were still grieving the death of cliff burton back then that is why you could hear the emotional playing coming out of their instruments
One of the best rock songs ever.
"One" of my favorite songs from Metallica 🤘🏻!!!
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Kirk Hammett's first clean "tapping" short is actually a foreshadowing for what's to come...
I wonder what the MTV programmers thought when they first saw this video in 1989? Minds freakin' blown I guess.
One has been giving me goosebumps for 30 years.
ONE! Best of Metallica
In the mid to late 90's, when I was 15, this was the first song that I heard from Metallica, and from that point on, they've been my number one band! All band members are/have been awesome, but my personal favourite band member is Lars! He actually inspired me to take up the drums, before I busted my wrist and got diagnosed with epilepsy on the same day! Now whenever I get too stressed (which is a major trigger for my seizures) I chuck on some Metallica until I calm down and alot of the time it helps! Metallica fan for life!!🤘🤘
Imagine being aware but you can't respond to anyone/being kept alive with machines, no control over anything. That's my idea of hell!
You guys must be kidding me, never heard Metallica - One? Crazy. Have fun!
Yeah, that´s the feeling for a master piece.
Saludos desde MX 🤘.
Two other great songs off this album,Blackened, and Harvester of Sorrow, highly recommended!🤘🤘🤘
The day you'll realize that this is not a movie to fill the music .. but the music who fill the video, you'll feel the max emotion of this masterpiece 👌 Tx for the react 🤟
I remember the day this video came out. It had me bawling! And determine to be a drummer!(never happened😂)
That's EXACTLY what Lars thinks everytime he sits on his drum throne.
30 years later and this video still gets me.
Johnny got a gun is the movie saw it never thought metal band would write a song about it
I love you guys Suzy and Travis y'all rule keep up the good work
one of the greatest songs ever !!!
The song One is the song that brought Metal into the mainstream . It made it a legitimate type of music .
Been a fan of Metallica since March 1987, seem theme 5 times, hopefully the stay active for longer. Need to see them live. Fuck covid!!
The movie in the video is "Johnny got his gun" This song will always be great. Keep up the great reactions.
Metallica's best album in my opinion. By far lars' best drumming. James' voice and lyrics were the best here. I love the sound. I don't give a shit about not hearing Jason's bass. It can be overlooked. The album is that good
And fits really well the punisher series 1 trailer
Spit out the bone....metallica
not just the best metal band of all time the best fucking band period of all time
Let's goooooo 🤘🤘🤘👊👊👊👊
Got it on vinal when it came out...One of the "big 4" of thrash metal along side Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer....Taking me back dude...
Yes its a movie originally a book Johnny got his gun
I remember that I was 13yo and bought the Video on VHS and needed 6 months to get the doubble-bass sequenz on my drums....it was worth it!........these times.... *sigh*
Try my #2 fav Song "Fade to Black" next time PLS :)
Years ago I presented this song as a college project
They have a second video for this song called the Jamin Version that is just the band and cuts out the movie footage.
Please ... the reaction to Metallica's song: master of Puppets live 1989 .. a spectacular performance
Nodding along to the song 😳😂
Everytime I hear this song I always play Aic-rooster and Soundgardens hands all over.
"So much hair"🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh, I miss the 80's!
Ah yes, the "big hair" era of rock and metal.
Damn the intro track of your CZcams fire.
Prime Metallica.. Tight!
Comes from the movie Johnny get your gun
Good vocal James...
I hope you will see Metallica live. They are "beyond"!
Fade to Black your life will change forever. Its only one of the top 3 songs ever written. Period!!!!!!!!!
If you were paying attention to the lyrics you probably wouldn't be smiling!!
My brother and sister, do you heard "to live is to die" of them? This is emotional!) Shout out from Russia! With love.
the video is mounted with the movie of johnny took his rifle based on the book of the same name with reference to the first world war
Guys the metal community shit on tallica for this vid. So sad tbh. Glad youre enjoying this now.
Hey Wolf Hunters, I have a question. What did you think of the bass lines in this song?
I'll wait....
Who cares
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
よかったら 日本の 人間椅子の いもむし も聞いてみて🤘😀🤘
So you're metal musicians that don't know One by Metallica.
When they play this song live they play it faster than the recording. Same with Master of Puppets and several other songs.
Only because Lars forgot the original tempo.
Metallica 🔥💥we grow with them my friends!!!!
1988 ONE🤘
'and justice " perhaps best DRUMS mix of all time.... missed the BASS guitar low end... had to eq that in myself...
Seen em more than 50 times
Check from Metallica the unforgiven and nothing else matters. They are emotional songs.
This dude lost his legs lost his arms lost his speech and lost his sight. Seriously put yourself there!
Great movie even better book Johnny Got His Gun and fun fact Metallica actually bought the rights to the movie for this music video
Metallica are Metal's GOAT. End of story. Cheerz from Oz. \m/
If not been said. They had to buy right and ownership of the film to show it in video
