      Yes, but the complainers are most likely using Gorilla amps. One must use something with 12 inch speakers. Give this pedal a decent chance. And you're probably not Clapton.

  • @kidwajagstang
    @kidwajagstang Pƙed rokem +4

    Never had any issues with this pedal myself. It does take some adjusting and experimenting to dial in those tones. Personally, I think the biggest source of why so many bash on this pedal is because it’s more complex than standard stomp boxes typically are. Depending on what model you’ve chosen, it changes what the two control knobs do. Personally, what I did was print a small “cheat sheet” that I taped to the bottom of the pedal when I needed to remind myself what setting was what. If I could put it on the stomp pad without it getting torn to shreds, I would have. That said, while complex, each time is kind of a “one trick pony” so it’s really best for playing Clapton songs or if you like his tones for your own tunes.

  • @8CountAudio
    @8CountAudio Pƙed rokem +3

    If I remember right, the reviews at the time said that it only gets you in the general neighborhood of the classic tones. The Leslie is pretty fun for the price and the Crossroads preset sounds pretty usable! I think our ears are more used to a lively, raw or transparent kind of overdrive that's been the sound of so many pedals that came after 2010. So for the era this pedal is from ('05), it was pretty alright at the time and kinda trashy but fun now..

    Like every piece of gear ever made, it's all what you do with it. I watched Josh over at JHS take some gear that had gotten a bad rap, or is just plain old, and make some AMAZING music. Like the Digitech RP90. Or the Line 6 Pod, or the Yamaha MagicStomp...he just dialed it in the way he knows how and blew me away. This pedal is no different. Phil X uses a Digitech Grunge pedal for his lead tone and it is epic. I have heard the most brilliant tone once and when he showed the signal chain, I was dumbfounded. It was all Behringer and Danelectrro and Digitech. I believe there's a place for every piece of gear. Except one. The DOD Gonkulator Ring Modulator. That has to be the most worthless, unmusical device every created by man. But that is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

    • @jazzercise300
      @jazzercise300 Pƙed rokem

      Ring modulators require a lot dialing in, it's more so like tuning the freq of the ring mod to whatever key you're playing in. You can get some beautiful sounds that way but then you gotta change it every time you play something different. Or you could use a ring mod for a basic trem 😂

  • @danthegeetarman
    @danthegeetarman Pƙed rokem +1

    I think the reason why so many players “hate” this pedal is because it doesn’t sugar coat anything. If your playing and technqiue sucks, it sounds REALLY bad on this thing (particularly vibrato - if you don’t have a good vibrato this thing WILL showcase it) Watched quite a few reviews of people trying to use it for metal and stuff, of course it’s going to sound bad for that. I think it’s cool for the price and picked one up đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

  • @michaelsicowitz362

    I usually like Digitech. That leslie effect is about the toughest one so not surprising it misses pretty bad. I guess the setting with a clean overdrive with a little compression is usable. There's a mess of leslie pedals; got my first one in 1975. They cost plenty but are worth it. Your 335 is glorious and don't ever sell that thing.

    @alistairwatson1330 Pƙed 6 měsĂci

    Thank you for perhaps being the only video which demonstrates Clapton like playing and setting out clearly that it is a digital model of the recorded signal (not an overdrive pedal).
    Used into FRFR or direct it has as much authenticity as other modelling devices (particularly other DigiTech modelling) of its era (2005). A weakness of the manual is that it does not tell users to set their amp very clean and flat, or to plug into effects return to bypass the colouration of the preamp. Demonstrations of this pedal in front of overdriven/distorted preamps of heavier playing and trying to use this as an overdrive or colouration are never going to sound good - but I guess those who posted videos in the past knew that.

    Have you guys at Pedal Pawn ever thought of making some Clapton inspired pedals? Seems like most things are more inspired by SRV and Hendrix type sounds but it would be cool to see you guys pay homage to the British heroes like Clapton and Paul Kossoff. The thing is that neither of those guys really used too many pedals and a lot of their classic tones were just great amps cranked and guitar knobs shaping their tones. Clapton is my favorite ever and I'm overall a "Strat guy" but Clapton on a Gibson will always be his greatest tones. His 335 and Firebird tones from the Cream years and 335 tones in the From The Cradle era are absolutely to die for!

    The player makes the diff too I have seen demo's where players have no clue about Clapton and that he uses single coils. Good demo. Great playing. Thanks about to put the drop on this pedal.

    I have a great story about this pedal. I was at a music shop in a little old lady came in and said that she did not need this pedal as they don’t use it in her church. She then said, would any of you get any use out of the pedal then she ended up giving it to me, in return. I helped her to her car with everything she bought at the store. However, when I got home, I realized this pedal is not going on my pedalboard. However, it was a very nice genuine, good deed the old lady could’ve sold it for $10 but instead she passed it on to a fellow musician. God bless you!!

    So, are you running the pedal directly into an interface or through an amp? Because the way you (or rather, Digitech) describe the pedal, it sounds like it's supposed to run direct which might in turn mean it sounds potato through an amp

    Obviously, the clapton style is in his fingers. You've spent a lot of time practicing his licks, pull offs, and vibrato.
    So you got a very faithful replication for the price.
    Good video.

    I like the phasey thing he was kinda known for in the eighties and nineties. It started, I think, during the Dominos era on songs like "Why does love got to be so sad?" That's the first I knew of anyway, It evolved into the sound you hear on "Pretending" and such. Some kind of Leslie, I think one of the smaller ones more aimed at guitar, not sure which one tho.

    I think some of the “Cream” era tones are made to be a bit trebly on purpose because Clapton would roll back the tone knob on his guitar for the “Woman” tone
. Be interesting to hear the pedal with your tone knob rolled back on the 335

    You make it sound good w/ur 335 & playing but I'm not sure which was worse of the Clapton/Hendrix/May digitechs when I played them when they came out. Maybe I suck. Lol. I like Digitech stuff so I was dissatisfying with all of them being "nasally". Modeling has now vastly improved so these need a reissue and upgrade? The Leslie on it is good but if you want that effect ...other pedals do it far better. They each seemed tailored for that ONE song so I'd consider it if I was in a cover band?
