  • Does your child seem lazy, sloppy, and unmotivated? He or she could be suffering from a writing glitch called Dysgraphia, which is easily corrected. diannecraft.org
Some children have to use so much energy for the writing process that they are reluctant to put pencil to paper for anything!
Not all children who have a writing block or dysgraphia also have visual/spatial problems, but they often overlap. This is the most common learning block that gifted children have. Many times it isn't even identified until a child is a teenager and not turning in written work! You will even find out if your child is hard wired to be right handed or left handed.
In my DVD "Smart Kids Who Hate to Write" you will learn how to identify a child with a writing glitch, dysgraphia, visual/spatial problems, and, more importantly, how to eliminate those problems using a proven method. This exercise was originally developed to improve eye/hand coordination and ball handling ability in sports. Coaches said these students just "knew where they were in the field after doing this exercise."
Learning glitches can be taken care of at home with Dainne Craft special education teacher, former homeschool mom, nutritionist and director of Child Diagnostics in Denver, Colorado.

Love the term "glitch" to refer to learning disabilities. Just that change in terminology lightens the psychological burden kids and parents carry when reading and writing are a struggle. Want to learn more.

"lazy, unmotivated, don't like writing". Children are probably confused why its so hard and are still developing resilience and motivation to do a task that is way harder than an average person and have an emotional reaction to being constantly mentally exhausted and confused why they can't be as good as others no matter how hard they try, so they stop trying.

I have a six year old reading second grade leveled books fluently but cannot write. since 5 years old still has the same writing. its weak, shaky, and when copying words, he goes letter by letter with much difficulty and stress and mistakes. never truly advancing in skill. He seems to forget things instantly and cannot keep his mind on one thing for very long before his brain has left the room, and we have to reread the instructions and find out where we left off, which is unhelpful because the sentence writing is not fluent.

If available, use speech to text tool on computer. Also, instead of writing paragraphs, use a graphic organizer that divides the paragraph into smaller sections like topic sentence in one box, wrap or conclusion in last box, etc. you can even use bullets points for main ideas then add transitions and topic sentences later.

I have dysgraphia, and I hold my pens the same way. Often, it's physically painful to hold it any other way, and writing for somewhat extended periods of time gives me pain shooting up my arm and fingers. It's an issue because focusing so hard on the writing makes it difficult for thoughts to be correctly communicated. I would recommend going to a third party professional if you're child is going to be taking any external exams (I'm not familiar with home schooling or obviously what the system is in your country.) I'm now finishing high school and I have typing privileges for any exams that require large amounts of writing, and some people get extra time. Some sort of official evaluation can really make a difference when campaigning with exam boards.

The part of my brain that translates information from short to long term memory can't handle drips of information.. it obsesses with it can't map it out into long term memory and doesn't know how to map it out. or thats what it feels like. I often find reading information takes forever to decode it into a visual concept. but once i have it in my long term it stays. I struggle with the written language I have to read so much more to grasp the whole picture. Then I'm content. but then there is the whole exhausting excersize of how to get it out of my head and back into written english. another challenge this one is exposed to vulnerability as I have to make sure people can grasp what I'm trying to say... This is where, I hope you can empathise. the confusion my teachers feel when trying to understand my written language is the world i live in when trying to communicate myself to others... when people speak in certain tones it sounds agressive or they use literature language it sounds like I'm getting told off!!! This lady is using typical literature tone and language order. my brain feels CONFUSED by this kind of linguistics! some teachers are too monotone so a whole lecture can sounds like one long patronising sentence.

I’m a neuroscientist and it hurts me to see this. Conscious to automatic actions do indeed transfer to a different brain area but it’s not from left to right. It’s from cortex to basal ganglia. Similarly memories transfer but again not from left to right. All this pseudoscience on the differences between the hemispheres has to stop. Still useful to think of dysgraphia from this perspective though.
