😂 I wasn't expecting your head to pop up like that in the intro lol thank you for these videos, they are much appreciated 👍
Well explained and useful info. I need to spot level one fret (actually a few to a lessor degree) and this info is very helpful. Thanks.

Beautiful guitar neck!
how are you not taking off too much material sanding over the top of the fret with 220 grit?
Thank you, my friend.
Best wishes
Thanks for the hints I've got mine to do on a ChinaGibson el cheepo but with different pups it and the Peter Green mod,Just a great sounding guitar.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have been building a shopping list and I’ll be sure to use your links
another great demonstration . . many thanks
Fantastic video...thank you.
I'm surprised you don't mark the fret's top with a sharpie btw the level and the re-crown. The visual aid it provides during re-crowning lets one easily know when the crown is narrow enough as well as that it is centered.
I used to, but experience has replaced the sharpie.
I'm surprised you don't quite seem to understand where exactly you are right now.. This is highline guitars! Take your stupid sharpie and do a michael jackson..
beat it!
Thank you Sir
Didn't check either side to see if you went too low?
Thanks for the lesson 👍
Thank you for this and your other tutorials. I've tried a couple of the other available fret files and keep coming back to using a triangular file.
I think just about all of us who do this kind of work eventually come to the same conclusion. Nothing beats a triangular file in regards to the control one has when it comes to re-crowning a fret.
Great to see another Highline vid and first comment of the New Year!
Great Video, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎸
You're taking more material off there than I would before checking but it's the same way I do mine. I do have a super-fine 3-edge file to do mine though...
I exaggerated how much I usually take off to make it more visible in the video.
Yeah i was thinking the same
what sort of polishing compound do you use? I haven't found one I like yet. Great video btw - thanks!
Cheapo Harbor Freight stick compound for metal.
@@HighlineGuitars cool thanks. Wha color? Rogue?
@@esmeraldo7887 White.
0:26 um...ok then.....um......no thanks im just gonna stay here.......
Oh man thats some scary fast filing. ID rather use a grit sponge or something that'll take a long time but end up perfect.;)
Best video out there on the recrowning with a 3-corner file. I remember your older videos and that you can see what you're doing instead of having some tool covering up the fret.
Have you ever tried those micro mesh mx-pads for the last polishing before the buffing wheel?
I just dislike all the tiny magnetic crap flying around, some get in the skin. I switched to erasers so I don't have to tape off the PUs.
I use the mx-pads now after the hard erasers from crimson (they show almost no wear). I'm gonna look for some smaller files as well. Could you do an ultra-closeup video when you cut a new nut?
It would be really something to see it up close and maybe see how the string fits or how much space is needed. That just shortens the amount of time to get a feeling for what works. What is your take on the shape of a nutslot?
Sadly, the nicholson file won't ship to germany-.-
How many teeth per cm are on there if it cuts so smooth? (trying to find something similar)
I got one but the length of a side of the triangle is bigger.
Great technique!
That neck is beautiful. What wood is the fingerboard?
great video & really great info in this one !! thanks again !!
Great vid
Like Always
Thanks for the vid. Where do you buy your gorgeous wood?
How low can frets get before I need a refret ? Thanks
Hey man, love the vids, super helpful!
Question: do you ever round over the fretboard edges on rosewood?
I would like to learn how you do that.
Thx!
Patrick Gillin Yes I round over the edges. A couple of passes with sandpaper does the trick.
How do i work on a compound radius fretboard?
The process is beyond what I can describe in a reply. I would have to make a video to explain. Unfortunately, I have no immediate plans to do a compound radius.
Can you buy that fret protector?
BRILLIANT!!😛👌👌
Rolling that file over to make a good crown takes more skill (reps) than you let on. A novice (like me) should practice on a junk guitar.
Yes, he ma
kes it look super easy cause he is very experienced. But I'll recommend any beginer to start on a very cheap and broken guitar.
i use that file and thats all i use when recrowning frets learning on something cheap is the best..i use a marker on the frets it helps me see were the high point is..thinner the line the better
Cool
Ahhhh scary man in glasses. Haha nice vid.
