@@Yllah if he knows Zaire then he knows about Africa from 1971 till 1997. Some of my family members have friends who still to this day call it Zaire, since they where born and raised there.
Actually Zaire is more famous than DR Congo... When I went to London, they asked me where I was from, if I say "DRC" they wouldn't know which country it was... But when I said Ex Zaire they were like "oooh Zaiiiiirrreee?!" Okay ! I would even be surprised if they actually knew the new name DR Congo... Zaire is sometimes more popular.

I can guarantee there are Japanese people who also think it is a country. I think she's helping out a lot by following up with the question "Can you name 3 COUNTRIES in Africa?", which some of them seemed very confused by. Still tho, the ignorance of many US citizens knows no bounds
Off the top of my head: Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, South Africa, Cameroon, Angola, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe...Is Madagascar a country? Anyway...that's off the top of my head. We study geography in elementary school in Canada. I have a pretty good memory from looking at maps as a kid. Oh...and that cool white guy's country...Chad

This type of thing can be done in basically any country in the world since most people don't have passports nor try to travel abroad, means they won't know much outside their own country's the only place that may differ is Europe where it slowly is turning into one giant country, most people only really learn about their country in their history books and their neighbouring countries and some few from history like Germany. Ex when the USA missile striked that Iranian general and war looked to be on the horizon some people asked Americans to point where Iran was on a map and a few even pointed to the USA.

Before you started interviewing, I decided to recall African countries in my head and got to 40; I know that there are gaps there. I would have thought most people here in the UK would get 10 and many 29+, especially if reminded there are Arab majority countries in Africa

Ghana is a Korean brand of chocolate that is also popular in Japan. They called it that because Ghana is a large exporter of cocoa beans. I'm not surprised a lot of people knew that one.
