  • Learning how to use a tuner is important for a few reasons.
First of all you want to be in tune.
Second, using a tuner will keep you up to pitch, meaning, when you use the tuner your instrument will be tuned up to concert pitch. If you play with a keyboard player or any other instrument that is "in tune to concert pitch" you will be in tune with them.
Third, keeping your instrument in concert pitch keep the proper tension on the instrument.
Clip on tuners are very popular and super convenient. You just clip it on any instrument play a string, and the tuner will indicate whether to tune up or down.
Many acoustic/electric guitars have a built in tuner. The tuner with work whether the guitar is plugged in or not. Another cool thing built in tuners and pedal tuners do is silence the sound to the amp when engaged so the audience doesn't have to listen to you tune.
Pedal tuners are in most guitarist, bass players and electric string players (mandolin, ukulele, fiddle etc) pedal boards. They also silence the sound to the amp when engaged. Many pedal tuners will accommodate drop tunings, alternate tuning, flat tuning and more. Another great feature with the BOSS pedal tuners is the also serve as a power supply for up to five additional pedals.
Below are links to the guitar in the video as well as the pedal tuners. The clip on tuner link will be up soon. The clip on tuner are available at Riskomusic.com. Please reach out if you have any questions.

The Mike Risko Guitar Book A and Book 1 both have instructions for tuning. Book A shows relative tuning (tuning the guitar to itself) and the use of a clip-on, built in and pedal tuner. Book 1 contains the information in book A but add the use of harmonics for tuning.
