I stumbled on the news about the sub-adult lion shot in Leipzig Zoo. They mentioned that the two lions were a year old and born last year in the Basel Zoo. It was a heart-wrenching moment for me, as I immediately realized that the unfortunate sub-adult was one of these 3 cubs. Authorities mentioned that the lion was agitated. Of course the lion will be agitated!! The 2 lions were still cubs and torn away from their pride. Away from home, they were put in completely unfamiliar surroundings. Which living-being will not be agitated and overwhelmed? I fail to understand why the Zoo authorities cannot seek more innovative ways to capture animals, if they accidently escape from their enclosures. Why is killing necessary? So much as a scratch on a human-being is such a big deal. But, the life of an animal carries little or no value. Shameful!
The Zoo keepers there need bat around the head, obvious they shouldn't be in the job in the first place. If that behaviour is Zoo policy they shouldn't keep Lions. I agree with you fully, really sad news
