After I uploaded the show, I saw how many people uploaded others. I used to bowl at Greenway. I believe it was the largest Duckpin house in the world -- 68 lanes. The lanes on which the telvision show was taped used to be tenpin lanes. So Greenway had 56 duckpin lanes and 12 tenpin lanes.

@@RobertGundlachMusic Pretty incredible! So sad that it's no longer around. Get out and roll a few while you still can. I'm hoping to be able to move down to CT or MD one day so that I can bowl duckpins rather than 10 pins. Ofc hoping that there are some more duckpin uploads in the future, no one has uploaded any tv matches in a few years, so this was a surprise!

@@surfinbird208 In Baltimore we are pretty fortunate -- we still have Pinland Bowling, Patterson Bowling and some AMF houses which are split houses.

I honestly think Duckpin Bowling in leagues and tournaments is growing.

I began in 1962 and bowled until 1987....then i quit. They ruined the game by raising the gutter belts, lowering the pits, and putting oil all over
the deck so the pins moved much further than they should have. They ruined the game.

All that, and still no perfect game! And, it never will be! There are too many ways of not getting a strike. Too many stone 8’s or stone 9’s will prevent it from happening.

      PLASTIC PINS

The same sorts of things happened in Candlepins. Silicone on the deck, shallow gutters around the deck, and thick foam rubber sidekicks. Plus, they switched to plastic pins that are barely tapered at either end.

I don't agree with the ruining of the game. When all of the bowlers are dealing with the same lane conditions no one guy or girl had the advantage. Some people say the harder throwers would benefit but the results don't necessarily prove that out. If that was the case only guts like Donny Dove, Mike Steinert and the like would have ever won. Mitch Lewinski never tried to match their power but won a higher percentage of tournaments he entered. Sure, he didn't baby the ball down the lane, but it was accurate and extremely consistent. He was a part time pro tour guy taking part in only about 30% of events but won about a dozen of them. Also, there is not a duckpin bowler aluve who doesn't know what Swede Lavers could do without killing the pins with speed.
So, yes the game changed, but it wasn't ruined.
