- This is a really simple book cover, fastening with ribbon to the side. Please look out for a future video with an added zipped pocket. I’ve kept this simple so that it is a beginner friendly project, and can easily be mass produced if you are making to sell, or what a great gift for any one you know! Child themed fabric for the kids, denim would work well, or you could use a patchworked fabric for the outer if you have a little more time!
I’ve used Sailors Fish on Blue and Sailors Boats on Burnt Orange from debbieshoresewing.com

Materials:
My book measures 12” x 8.5” [30cm x 22cm]
So I’ve cut one outer and one lining piece to 1” [2.5cm] larger than my book size. Fuse fleece [H640] to the wrong side of the outer piece.
Also cut four 3” [8cm] wide strips to the length of the fabric. Mine are 3” x 9.5” [8cm x 24cm]
Two pieces of ribbon each measuring 12” [30cm]

Perfect timing! My Bible cover is wearing out. I have so many notes in it that I don’t want a new one. I was wondering what to do. Thank you!
Hi Debbie! From the two nutters who met you at the Stitch show on 24.3.23 - we had travelled from Heathrow. Ornella & Sue.
OMG, when I saw your comment I nearly fainted. My sister in laws name was Ornella, she passed almost 12 years ago! My name is Sue and to see those two names together no less gave me goosebumps. I showed it to my niece and she dang near freaked herself!
Love how you did turning gap, not see it done like that, much neater, looking forward to seeing its upgrades, thank you ❤
Music to my ears "Beginner Sew-er" 🥰 I'm definitely going to try this with material I had made for me so long ago. Thank you so much! xx
I'm thinking about getting some diaries for the staff in my daughters day centre and covering them with this book cover thank you Debbie your makes inspire
Great tutorial--thank you! I've been quilting and sewing for years, but sometimes I run across a fabulous tutorial like this and think, "Thanks! I'll make 10!" Truly, I have a lot of friends who read with birthdays coming up and this is the perfect personalizing touch for gifting books. Much appreciated!
Thank you for this tutorial Debbie….your videos are always so clear and easy to follow!
When I’ve made book covers, I’ve sewn in 2 (yes 2!) book marks which can be further adorned with beads etc. found this very useful.
I may give this one a try. Thanks for sharing.❤
Beautiful sewing & finishing! Love this!!💜
I made one of these for a friend who is going on a short course. It makes such a wonderful gift. A nice easy make. Thank you Debbie 🙏
Thank you Debbie. Looks simple, even I might manage it! Love your short videos. Would love ones of a book cover with pen loop and magnetic clasp.
Beautifully sewn Debbie! I shall make one or two today. 💐

Can you make a video on how you make your own ironing pads? Thank you.
Hi, Debbie did an ironing/cutting pad about six years ago, on youtube
Can i make this cover for a spiral notebook and still look neat?? Love the idea bookcover😊
Would you be at all interested in making a book cover for the steno spiro bound notebook. I use them everyday and not sure how to adapt your pattern maybe with pen pocket, oh a quilted (just one fabric) would be awesome. My sewing club would go nuts
Love this book cover. What fusible fleece is equivalent in the US to the fleece you use?
This looks great to make with my daughter who likes notebooks. I've never used fusible fleece before - is it different from wadding (like used in your picnic placemats)?
Precious
I added a pocket to the inside of the front cover to hold a pen
Your machine sounds like it needs to be oiled. I do love this pattern. I am going to use it to make a Bible cover
I watched this video to learn how to make a bible cover too!
Great
Great job Debbie it's so simple thank you for your great showing
Hi, what is the seam allowance on this please, I can’t see it anywhere and didn’t hear you say. Thank you
I heard her say 1/4 inch seams when she was sewing the two inside pieces.
Could put a tab on the end and use a magnetic snap or a kam snap or even a button to close, instead of the ribbon?
How did you make your little ironing board?
Debbie do you think it would be possible to use PVC / oilcloth for this project?
Could I make it without the fleece and quilting? The book I want to make one for has already got a thick cover. Thanks
Hi,.. would yu like to shre, what type of lining or interface did you use for the outer fabric. because there are many type of lining, and quite confusing for beginner to choose. Thank you.
What sewing machine do you use please?
I dont understand.. what kind of pen does she use that the iron removes the pen marks?
Great tutorial. Thats what i was searching for. Thanks for sharing. I will try it directly.
Can l ask why you didn’t you a longer piece and fold it over as that would save you sewing twice… was there a reason why you did it this way pls as new to all this 😂
One reason was to use a different fabric
