I know this isn't a new video and I may have even watched it before but just watched it and want to say thanks for making it Dave. I've gone through some similar mods to get about 8 attachments to all work with my QH. I see a lot of guys bashing them online but once you get everything set up they make life much easier for many years. The hydraulic top link is a game changer and a must have in my view.
I have a Speeco quick hitch that I have had for over 20 years. Several pieces of my equipment are not quick hitch compatible. I use the lower pin adaptor bushing on the equipment and center link link adaptor on the hitch. I have to get off the tractor to hook up the top link, which works fine for me, at least I don't have to fight with the lower links. I fully agree with your modifications to your equipment. Great video with a lot of good information.

@@daveknowshow I had the Pats EZ hitch on the lift arms and they worked very well. I thought the quick hitch would work better and I was in the mood for a new toy. I wasted my money. The top hook is in the tool box which means I still have to attach the top link by hand. It is no big deal to do that, but the quick hitch is not a big deal either. :-)

Dave, great video. I too purchased the after-market extended hook about a year ago and was able to get it for $30-ish (S/H included). They are made specifically for HF QH systems and so far it's been perfect for my needs. Thanks Dave for your great tips and advice to viewers. Be well, my friend. Nice video. Great for those wanting to save some money. I myself invested a heavy price for the Kubota quick hitch 10 that does not have any adjustments and doesn't need any adaptors for the implements. I did get it because I did get a new tractor and my implements I got with it were Kubota Quick Hitch. I did buy a Farm Hand 42BX Wood Chipper and converted it to fit by drilling another hole for a 1/2 inch bolt and putting a 1/2 to one inch adaptor and then a 1" to 1 1/8 inch adaptor for a perfect fit. It just makes it even easier that you don't have to mess with the top hook. I will most likely buy Land Pride quick hitch implements, but if I did see something else saving enough money and it could be adapted over would do that as well. It was nice that you did have the adjustable hook on top to not even have to modify the implements. But you are right quick hitch is the way to go. The easier it is to change implements the more likely you will use them more often.
so very true I just finally adjusted my rototiller to work on my quick hitch as well. so now I only have three that do not fit. the post hole digger, the 12 inch bottom plow which neither of those will ever fit. my aerator does not fit very well so I will make some adjustments to it soon. its not something I use very often but I might would if it was easier to hook up
Best real-world Q/H video! You solved the top link problems quite nicely. Any reason I couldn't weld a filler in the bottom hooks (like you did to the top hook) to avoid the use of bushings? Seems wasteful to have to go out and buy a set of bushings for every implement. Older guy here too, and I'm so done with jockeying implements around to get them to line up with the 3Pt hitch holes. Thanks Dave . I have a few old pieces of equipment, but he main one that I use is a old heavy duty blade. It even can be slide either way on the frame. Also has replaceable cutting edge. Of coarse I run into the problems you discussed. I was not aware of the different hooks available.
I was just sent a brand new blade to test out. I needed a offset blade like the one you have. I got this new blade to test and make a video about and it was suppose to be quick hitch ready. well guess what? it wont fit! I could not believe it! I spent a week rebuilding my harbor freight quick hitch to fit this darn thing! hope to have that video out in the future. its a nice blade though really super heavy duty to!

Hey, so curious, would the Pat's Easy Change system not also have been a good option for you, since your top link was given you so much trouble? Of course, in using Pat's, the top link would need to extend out a bit further (3.75 inch) to make that work... so with your hydraulic top link may make that not an option. Thoughts?
@@BubbaGooder could have went pats but I'm not a fan of it. the arms swing loose if you dont put the bar between them and that bar can get in the way of the pto shaft when using a pto driven implement. at least I would think it would get in the way.
I fully agree with you Dave! Older equipment are worth more than newer. If the shiny stuff is what a guy is looking, then a pint of paint can do the trick too! One thing you know with old stuff: they've proven to be strong over the numerous years of hard work. If they still exist, then they are strong. I have a vintage Allis Chalmers blade, probably from the first half of the last century. Nothing can break it. The moldboard is 3/4in thick. Add another 3/4in for the hardened steel cutting edge! Then the post holding it is a round 4 inches solid piece of steel! No tubing! Lol! Got it for 100$ CDN (roughly 60$ USD). Got it painted for 10$. Thanks!
Forgot to say... that is a very clever trick you have there! I would never think of that! It does 90% of the job of a QH without a compatible implement.
I do like my old implements but a month or so ago I was given the opportunity to try out a new rear blade and I was impressed with how well it was made. very heavy duty for today's standards. I hope to show it in a video soon.
Gave up on the HF quick hitch; and got a set of hook style hitch adapters from Titan (similar to Pat’s Easy Change, except not as nice - but half the price). More practical for me; because I’ve got the backhoe for my GC1723EB; and I don’t have to remove them when I put the backhoe on. Still had to make some adapters for my flail mower, though, because the lower pins were directly over the deck, and there was no room for the hooks.

The other thing I had to do was get a longer top link; because the one that came with the tractor was too short to accommodate the required adjustment range plus the extra four inches or so that the QC hooks added. A larger tractor might not have this issue (I.e, your top link might be long enough already).
How's she goin'? Great video Dave!!! This shows a lot of the problems we face when we get a Quick Hitch!!! Although the name sounds like it's the answer, it's not a simple hook up every time!!! I find the biggest issue I had with no quick hitch was getting the lift arms connected. Fussing with the top link is not really a big problem and I'd rather do what you show here, than to fight with getting the lift arms connected!!! Take care and thanks for sharing!!!

Not yet! but I may try the titan version its much lower priced from what I hear. as far as function they all have issues in one way or another. the pats has clearance issues with some implements plus you will need a longer top link which is no big deal tractor supply has plenty as does amazon. they way I see it I'm glad I did not buy a expensive quick hitch and then had to do mods because I would really be disappointed had I paid a lot for the hitch. as it is I only paid like 80 bucks for the harbor freight so a few hundred in mods is no big deal if it them works with everything I own. now had I paid a few hundred for the hitch and then had to spend another few hundred to adapt it over then I would be less happy? lol
For the LAST 65YEARS Tractor Operator's have been looking for an "Easy-way" to hook-up 3point implements. The after-market "quicky-hitcheys " are the poorest EXCUSE to hook-up 3point implements. The ONLY IMPROVEMENT is the "Factory Lower Telescopic Adjustable link Ends "..... = Positive ,Precise,Controlable ,And SAFE Total Applications !!! In 50% of cases the Operator STILL has to get Off the Tractor for PTO SHAFT CONNECTIONS & sometimes hose's also. By "getting off the tractor" ;--- their is NOTHING "QUICK" about this Demostration!!! ( Plus ALLL that Adapt-a-lating).... The " quicky-hitcheys " ( both kinds-with arch& lower "add-ons") have failed me MISERABLY...either have been taken back or are in the "Scrap-heap". Thank you Sir for this informative vidio and happy safe tractoring. Best wishes with all your endeavours.
tractor work is well "work" the quickie attachments do SAVE some effort with large implements. I can remember having to fight push pull and pry the implements over to connect them. so saving that aspect alone is light years of improvement in my honest opinion. yes you still need to get off the machine to hook up hoses pto shafts and such but that is nothing compared to tugging and wrestling a brushhog that the pins just are not lining up close enough. everything tractor related comes with a learning curve. you can give up before you get around that curve or you can give it the time and effort to learn and adapt. the quicky is far from perfect but sure has saved my back. I never knew how much until I broke my quicky and had to go back to the old way. I immediately bought and modified a new quicky to at the least get me back where I was. thanks for your input it helps others to see worthy opinions on these subjects.
yes I worry about snakes but we dont have many rattle snakes that I seen here where Im at. copper heads are very common though. they make for a bad day as well.
As with almost all of these videos from everyone posting them this works great when your quick hitch is adjustable but if its a 1 piece like a kubota quick hitch none of these videos will work.
yes there is some modifications that need to be done and the best one for the money is the harbor freight. if I spent the money on a landpride I'd be pissed if I had to modify it at all. with this cheap harbor freight I just plan on modifying it from the start.
As a young timer, I appreciate listening to this old timer. Lots of experience and knowledge in those gray hairs.

My box blade was allot like your land rake. I cut out that underneath and welded to the outside of where the top link goes

In 50% of cases the Operator STILL has to get Off the Tractor for PTO SHAFT CONNECTIONS & sometimes hose's also. By "getting off the tractor" ;--- their is NOTHING "QUICK" about this Demostration!!! ( Plus ALLL that Adapt-a-lating).... The " quicky-hitcheys " ( both kinds-with arch& lower "add-ons") have failed me MISERABLY...either have been taken back or are in the "Scrap-heap". tractor work is well "work" the quickie attachments do SAVE some effort with large implements. I can remember having to fight push pull and pry the implements over to connect them. so saving that aspect alone is light years of improvement in my honest opinion. yes you still need to get off the machine to hook up hoses pto shafts and such but that is nothing compared to tugging and wrestling a brushhog that the pins just are not lining up close enough. everything tractor related comes with a learning curve. you can give up before you get around that curve or you can give it the time and effort to learn and adapt. the quicky is far from perfect but sure has saved my back. I never knew how much until I broke my quicky and had to go back to the old way. I immediately bought and modified a new quicky to at the least get me back where I was. thanks for your input it helps others to see worthy opinions on these subjects.
Take it from experience, get those pallets from under your equipment. A rattlesnake will ruin a good day.
yes I worry about snakes but we dont have many rattle snakes that I seen here where Im at. copper heads are very common though. they make for a bad day as well.
As with almost all of these videos from everyone posting them this works great when your quick hitch is adjustable but if its a 1 piece like a kubota quick hitch none of these videos will work.
yes there is some modifications that need to be done and the best one for the money is the harbor freight. if I spent the money on a landpride I'd be pissed if I had to modify it at all. with this cheap harbor freight I just plan on modifying it from the start.
