Let's put politics aside and passionately follow what Sam is saying. This will transform the nation and keep brilliant minds busy with productive work to deliver products that cuts across international markets. Put politics aside, with several years of experience as software engineer and a mentor, I believe this initiative is one of the best ideas I have heard from any politician in recent times. Beautifully said.
However, the infrastructure is not only the labs and computers.
You need massive power to run ML/AI servers, more so you'll need to adequately cool them. And not to talk about internet connectivity, we're dragging out feet when it comes to that.
Besides that, there's an overwhelming lack of documented data for training ML/AI models especially in the African context....making it obviously discouraging to even go into it. Look at GhanaNLP 😅.
With a well curated plan and agencies deployed to enforce the plan; and not putting square pegs in round holes....
We can achieve the impossible within a few years

It still needs to be taught through well........coding is very good but we have to look at the trend and future of technology.........in just about 3yrs from now AI will do all the coding we need, It is actually able to code now,.....however we need the kids to know how to do critical and logical thinking in problem solving. But we should think through it.........i believe if we take one platform i way "Python" which a lot of AI apps and software are based on, it will help us a lot. As kids grow they can get into other areas. Currently, even in international schools we don't have teachers who know how to code. We were suppose to be teaching Coding in the early 2000 but we sat back and now its AI............very soon without any coding language you can sit behind your PC and come up with a code to solve issues.....because you have the AI to do it for you.

Yes I agree we should teach it......but who are those with the knowledge to teach.....we don't have trained teachers in coding.

All I'm hearing is tech talk by a politician. First off, Ghana is late to the paty but why not start with resolving dumsor and establish a solid, consistent, affordable internet infrastructure like Nigeria did. Provide better incentives to companies that are folding and leaving Ghana due to heavy taxation and unnecessary fees. Then, look into revamping the school curriculum across the board from nursery to SSS. Maybe then, and the keyword is "maybe," we might have something in place where coders can actually impact the economy. While India and the Philippines remain giants in this area, countries like Turkey, Israel, Brazil, and Costa Rica are quickly creeping up.
