  • Aside from mixer recipes, the most comment questions I get about EdgeTX related to channel mappings--by a country mile. So in this video, we're going to show channel mappings in great detail and I'm bringing RCVR1 to the video so you can see how it works first hand.

      @@RCVideoReviews I think when I started to use OpenTX the thing that really confused me a lot was setting the channel order in the radio settings and the various Multimodule firmware downloads (AETR v. TAER v. blah-blah). Maybe you should cover that in your next Masterclass. I think this really muddies the water for some folks. It was causing me to overthink things quite a bit.

    Thanks for all of your videos. You were a great help when I first got the TX16S with OpenTX. I recently converted from OpenTX to EdgeTx and again you are a great help. I know that this is strictly a video on how mixes and inputs work, however at min. 13:10 I think you have the rudder throw backwards when mixing ailerons. This is a minor thing and of no concern given the subject matter of this video, but people new to EdgeTX might take your instructions too literally and set up their planes in this manner.
    For the beginners out there, the proper mix set up is for the rudder to move towards the UP moving aileron, that way the nose of the airplane is pointed into the bank of the turn that is created by the ailerons.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před rokem

      There's no telling which way is right without seeing it on a plane. Sometimes--depending on the hardware arrangement the sweep moves one way while the rudder moves another. I absolutely cannot account for every different hardware arrangement possible.
      In any case, people should make sure their control surfaces move in the proper direction.

    My opinion regarding the title of this video is some information I expected are missing... You explain the relation between mixer and receiver outputs, and stresses that you never leave the mixer tab, but actually I noticed there are other parameter that have in fluence on the channels order, especially the firmware used in the 4in1 RF module (what we can chose in AETR or TAER preset order), and the "disable channel mapping" switch in the model settings which. That's also what I expected to see in this video ;-)

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před rokem

      Channel mapping is a Spektrum issue, not an Edge issue and I don't care for or advocate for spektrum.
      Default channel order doesn't mean much other than during initial setup. For 99% of people who learn how to use this radio, they will wind up using existing models as templates to copy from in which case channel order means bupkus.
      When we make these videos we have to make choices about what's in and what's out. Because if we include every single issue that every single person cares about, the videos would be hours long.
      This video should be more than enough to explain channel mapping and to get you on the right track to ask google any remaining questions you have.

    • @ericubkd2189
      @ericubkd2189 Před rokem

      @@RCVideoReviews Hum... If it's an "issue" like you say (I'd rather call it a feature), it seems it's not only Spektrum related, as I had also to fiddle channel order with other model/brand than Spektrum. And I'm following several groups on FB where the question of channel mapping is answered quite often because many people are confused about either 4in1 RF module firmware choice and the switch "disable channel mapping, not always Spektrum related). That's precisely why I made some research on that topic to validate my own thoughts. Then I went to this video, which I thought would shed some light on the matter ;)

    1:10 "When you come from other platforms" Dittos!
    I'm only one minute in but that comment above made me post. I'm coming from Spektrum. You admit you don't know Spektrum. Man...from my end, You just don't know how to think to wrap your heard around the box until you repeat and fail repeat and fail and then get it.
    In short order on Spektrum I was flying same day. I made mixes. I could make coordinated turns. I added flaperons to a bind and fly sailplanes. You could trim out the elevators when adding flaps.Throttle shutoff was easy. Navigating the Spektrum receiver was easy. I've had my RX16S for 3 weeks and have yet to successfully navigate the box.
    I hope I can after watching the rest of the video. ;-)
    ~~~~~~~~
    EDIT:
    WHY YES! I enjoyed the video! I like it when you get pissed. ;-)
    For me...I'm going to make up a mock plane as you've shown with a motor circuit to help teach me. I was advised on another video to leave the throttle wide open while binding a Spektrum receiver so that the system know where 100% throttle is. Glad I didn't believe it....and didn't get cut.
    Headed out to the shop. I'm programming a jailbroke bind and fly AX-631 from a Night Radion....If successful I'll come back and worship your page! ;-)
    ~~~~~
    EDIT ONE HOUR LATER: A guy named Mikey in RadioMasters Owner Group told me the relations between AETR and receiver positions ...I was overthinking. Using what I learned here all the control surfaces are working properly. Got to adjust for flaperons, AS3x and Safe and on on my way! Thanks!

    Really great video, but one thing you said isn’t completely true. Like you, I believed that AETR or TAER etc didn’t really matter, apart from it being the default channel order when creating a new model. But I found out this week that it’s not the case - when using DSM/DSMX with a multi-protocol module, including the internal module on the RM radio. Read this, it surprised me and I think it’ll surprise you too …
    “The module will take whatever input channel order you have choosen and will rearrange them to match the output channel order required by the selected protocol.”…
    “Unless Channel Re-mapping is disabled, the radio model's channel order must match the Expected Channel Order of the MULTI-Module, which is AETR by default. See the Channel Order page for more details.
    By default the MULTI-Module will expect channels in the module's Expected Channel Order, and will convert them into TAER order automatically.” www.multi-module.org/using-the-module/protocol-details/dsm

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před 2 lety

      I didn’t neglect to mention it. That is a DSM convention, not an EdgeTX convention. If I had to document the specific conventions for all of the protocols usable in MPM there would be no video like this.
      Also, frankly, I really don’t use Spektrum gear so I don’t address their limitations. Edge and MPM make accommodations in their code to accommodate DSM but that has zero to do with the organic behavior of the radio demonstrated in this video.
      I’ve spent a fair amount of time looking through the code on MPM and even produced a video showing how to compile custom versions of it. But thanks for sharing the link…

    • @martinrcflyer4089
      @martinrcflyer4089 Před 2 lety +1

      @@RCVideoReviews thanks for the reply. I’ve looked more into this and it doesn’t just affect Spektrum. By default MPM will convert the channels over to the default channels of any protocol, but there is an option in the EdgeTX/OpenTX receiver menu to override this default.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před 2 lety

      @@martinrcflyer4089 My point exactly. The MPM isn't really Edge and Edge isn't MPM. They are discreet. Edge "doesn't care" about channel names. Outside protocols might and Edge provides accommodation for them.

      Thank you for posting that link, I was trying to setup a UMX Night Vapor on a TX16S and couldn't figure out what was going on. It has 3 control surfaces so I moved the rudder to the right stick and since it's Spektrum I set the channels as TAER but it wouldn't work on DSMX. • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před rokem

      I do not. Just remember when it comes to mixing:
      Identify the thing that "needs to be fixed"
      Identify the thing that "does the fixing"
      So if you have a thrust vector servo, that's what needs to be fixed.
      Yaw (rudder) is the thing that does the fixing.
      So your mix would be:
      Chx - Thrust Vector Yaw Servo Weight 100%
      Chx - Rudder Servo Weight 20% (or something much smaller)

      You don't say what RX you're using. That would help. This is solved in the mixer. Mixers connect channel assignments in the radio to pins on the Rx. So find an open PWM pin, say Ch5. Go in the mixer on Line 5 and add a switch. Verify output my opening the channel monitor and flipping the switch. You should see a ppmus change from 998us to 2012us. When you see that, your light controller should do something.
      You also don't mention what light controller you're using or what the controller expects for pulsewidth in order to change states.
