Lived in New Dorp a couple of years(early 80s) to take care of my grandmother. Canopy of Elm trees make for a very quaint and charming atmosphere. It started changing back then, but still a good neighborhood. Although those smelly days from the dump are never pleasant.

I remember Richmond Ave ,from Arthur kill rd. going towards the mall .All you could go from ARTHUR KILL RD WAS 500 YDS. THEN THERE WAS THE SMALL AIRPORT .My Grandfather brought us kids there to watch the planes take off and land. Beyond that was nothing. Great memories.

Seen king Kong at that theater, new dorp diner. When to old new dorp high school. Remember when they filmed Easy Money at pizza time. New dorp and Hyland Blvd. And then there was nathan's.... From Tyson lane to 122. How many stores would you say there are? Remember bagging groceries for tip money to go to the movies someplace along Hyland Blvd for 50 cents. Mid 70s to early 80s I lived in that area. Oh U.S.Army recruiting office was in new dorp, jan 3rd,1979. And signed up for the draft a few years later at the post office. Marino brothers auto parts, worked for one of them early 80s.

Cedar Grove Beach was PRIVATE! There was fencing into the water and a manned guardhouse at the gate. Before Ebbitts St. was completed it was the Dead End of Cedar Grove Ave. You would have to be invited by a resident to enter.

My first job when I moved to S.I. when I was a teen was Sedutto's. The girls I worked with were mean, so I didn't have that job long.

One of the things that really changed is that automobile repair shops now charge ridiculous prices on labor and rip off the customer with the price of parts. And then tell you that they are looking out for you…smh
