    David Batty: what a player! A pit bull terrier in the midfield. He could also deliver the crosses (recall the one he placed on Lee Chapman's head in our 4-5 defeat against Liverpool at Elland Road - I think it was in April 1991). In this game he was involved in all three of our goals.

    I was there that day. 14 years old travelling with a touring team from Aus. Harry met us after the game and Ive been a Leeds supporter ever since.

    They were great days; we're still some way off that. How we could do with a Bowyer right now! Nice to see a glimpse of Gary Speed; what a guy he was.

    Why does no one ever talk about this Harry Kewell goal? A ridiculous bit of skill and technique, one of the best goals of that era. And i say that as someone who is not a Leeds fan. They were a nice team to watch though.

    Age-old problem for Newcastle's 1st -- not being able to defend set pieces. And what a player Bridges could have become if injuries hadn't clobbered him; he was a great finisher.

    This team, had it stayed together and added a few more intelligent signings, would have won lots of silverware in the years that followed.
    Mangers are always crying out for more funds. Ridsdale provided the money and DOL squandered it on mediocre players like Seth Johnson, Michael Duberry, Jason Wilcox and others. PD and DOL contributed to the ruin of this club. A better manager than DOL would have built on this very, very promising team.

    • @SuperNintendoMii
      @SuperNintendoMii Před 3 lety

      Oleary didn't ruin the club. Yes, seth Johnson is a head scratcher even now, but he asked for players like all managers do. The transfer fees paid, wages negotiated, etc, were all down to Ridsdale. Managers don't negotiate that stuff, it's the board. And Ridsdale spent money like water. You probably heard that rumour where Johnsons agent wanted 12k a week and Ridsdale walked in and offered 30k. It's probably true. Can you blame a manager for that? I even saw an interview (on CZcams) with Oleary who said when he wanted a player like Robbie fowler the club paid over the odds for them and then sold them for their true value which was less than they paid for them in the first place!

      @@SuperNintendoMii : I wrote: "PD and DOL contributed to the ruin of this club" which is different from saying, 'O Leary ruined this club".
      Managers decide which players they want. They make and communicate their choices to the board which, after they endore the choice" sort out wages and related matters. I still maintain that DOL, with the exception of Robbie Keane, made poor choices. at a time when players like Eider Gudjohnsen and John Arne Riise were willing to join us.

    • @SuperNintendoMii
      @SuperNintendoMii Před 3 lety

      @@ivanppillay914 I would still maintain that the problems lie at Ridsdales feet. Every manager in the country is banging on the chairman's door asking for more money, so when they get it they pick players they want. If the money isn't there, it's the chairman's responsibility to say no. Otherwise the manager will believe its there. I would say its o learys fault that we didn't win any silverware... Twenty years on its still a mystery how that team won absolutely nothing. The team as a whole should certainly have won something, but we didn't. I don't blame him for the problems we had tho, that's Ridsdale. I still would like to see him back in football, but he's tainted it seems, yet Ridsdale is still free to become a chairman of different clubs and now an advisor (who the fuck in their right mind would have the man who ruined leeds United as an advisor?)
