***** Hi James , American shows are everywhere because they are cheap , UK television although going downhill is still miles better than anything in America , as a rule I avoid American shows like detective or police shows , cant stand the way they are made for an American audience and you have the continual scenarios of explaining the plot in the dialogue for the Americans that are slow on the uptake , not to mention the actors are second rate , compared to any Brit .. have a nice day .

You have that completely the wrong way round. You think we have inferiority complex when actually it's all americans who have a superiority complex. You.ll disagree cos your American but Amy one else will completely agree with me. Anyone from any other country knows it's true. Except of course the Americans who think it's everyone else with the problem..so why do all these countries hate you like the Jews hated the nazis...It's because America is just as bad as the nazis

You didn't ask the obvious question: "Have you ever been to the UK ?" If not then the opinions are formed from news reports and news only shows the exceptions in society, not the boring norm. It's also true of the UK with America, unless you go to America (preferably several times) then it's hard to have a true, self realised opinion of what it's like (it isn't how it's represented on TV in the UK).

  • @TheRousler

    • @gaconnochie
      @gaconnochie Před 10 lety

Actually the stat you quote is incorrect. Mohammed was the most popular boy's name in London in 2012 but it wasn't even in the top 10 in England as a whole. It is also misleading in that yes if you combine the various spellings of Mohammed then it is one of the most popular names but the facts are that virtually all the other top 100 boys names in England are general English/European names. The name Mohammed is used by a large section of the Moslem community whilst English people use a huge amount of names. Can't compare like with like

The Office thing is obvious. Americans prefer their remake and Brits prefer the original. This is clearly because the whole premise of the show is about subtle nuances in our culture and the comedy comes from relating to that. US culture is different from the UK's. That's why they remade it.

+Whitney Pyant At least we can make an educated opinion. We are taught both sides of the coin. Americas education consists of one side - It's side. You are taught that you single handedly beat us back in revolutionary war (Despite the french funding the war and the Dutch/Spanish/French fighting it for you) You 'won' the war of 1812 when you got pushed all they way back down to New Orleans (A battle only won AFTER the signing of the Treaty of Ghent and AFTER the burning of your nations capital, not to mention it was YOU who attacked Canada) and how you single handedly saved the world from Hitler... After arriving 2 years late after the values your nation was FOUNDED ON were under threat.
Your who nation is educated to believe it is the best and the world is wrong. That America's way works and no other nation should function without it... Ignoring the socialist governments of Norway and Luxembourg who have the highest living standards on the planet.
Like i say, we can see both sides of the coin, Anti-American sentiment comes form the deep seated arrogance and ignorance so often displayed by the people of America. Did you even hear of the 7/7 bombings int he London underground? It was our 9/11. As far as i know it wasn't even reported in the US. Americans simply don't care, as such, why should the world care about America?

Yes, you Americans destroyed OUR English language, no doubt about that, and at the same time developed an accent most Britons dislike intensely and find it irritating. And yes, you have better weather generally in the USA...BUT...when you have bad weather in the USA then it really IS bad big time and much worse and more destructive than the British weather is ever likely to be as British weather of any kind is so much tamer and less disruptive as we in the UK do not have dreadful tornadoes, raging hurricanes, blinding blizzards, ice storms, droughts, severe cold and scorching heat and all sorts of horrid bugs and spiders and snakes and alligators and cockroaches the size of crabs. When I was in New York I nearly fainted when I went into the hotel bathroom, switched on the light and the tiled walls and floor were a seething mass of cockroaches - there one moment, and gone the next. I was laughed at when I complained to the receptionist the next morning.

That is now also accepted in the Republic where more than 90% voted to accept that principle. Support for a united Ireland by the way is higher in GB than it is in Ireland itself. The Republic does not claim Northern Ireland and has not done for some time.

I'm British and I like America, it's citizens, it's general values and it's role within the world / society. Long live the special bond our countries share. It is a shame that America is no longer part of the UK but all colonies all over the world eventually become independent over time - it is just a shame that a civil war occurred about it all this years ago. Ignore any negativity from other Brits on here - most (like 99%) of UK people DO like America and on here you will only find the Loud minority most of the time. Rest assured we all have our own minds. I actually think the UK has a lot to learn from the USA in recent times as the UK has allowed itself to become eroded by soft laws and by allowing all the idiots in from the rest of Europe and the east in such as extremists. In the USA such things would not proliferate. By the way USA - FYI most BRITISH NATIVES do not want to be part of Europe - it's purely a financial / trade thing why we remain. It would still be possible for the UK to have a good trade alliance with Europe and remain a strong NATO member if we were not part of Europe whilst taking our laws back in to our own hands (did you know most of our laws are now made in Belgium!)

America will always be a better place to live. Britain is without a doubt one of the most depressing countries to live in the world or at least in Europe. The lifestyle is boring and repetitive and wherever you go or you'll ever see is the same row of terraced houses in every street and every neighborhood filled with chavs and slobs. Don't get me wrong, i think Britain is a good country culturally, economically and in terms of military but it's just not a pleasant place in a lot of areas. Another thing that annoys me is how nearly every boy has an obsession with football (soccer) but what's funny is that Britain can't play football worth a shit seeing how we've been beat in nearly every world cup (except for one in 1966) by countries that don't even play football. America has much more vast land and places to explore ranging from deserts, forests and cities but in Britain all you get is towns full of old miserable buildings and not to mention the 'British Countryside' is honestly the most boring empty place on earth. I'm not saying Britain is a terrible country but it has many flaws.

Yes we have a lot of history and culture here, and there are the fair share of slobs and junkies but to say that about the entire UK is just stupid. Scotland is a very unique place in terms of beaches, mountains, forests, lochs (lakes) etc and I'm proud of that. We have a low population so 5 minutes outside a town and you're in a completely different place my friend :) P.S. I love America and would love to visit there in the future.

The only reason the 2 different countries generally prefer their own countries version of "the office" is because it appeals to their sense of humour more as it they contain references that are more relatable to their own countries. I wouldn't get hung up on it..

You know what I have noticed after watching several videos regarding cultures? When people ask Americans what they think of other cultures a high percentage of the people respond with positive remarks, but when asking other countries, Germans, British, Dutch, French about Americans - the answers were mainly negative. I think it's very telling about the mentalities of the cultures.

Hmm, so it's not because US (not American) culture is spread around the world so most people understand and appreciate it, as opposed to the woeful ignorance displayed by US citizens about the rest of the world?

England is a country, Great Britain is an Island containing three countries (England, Scotland and Wales), The UK is a State, sometime simply referred to as Britain.
"The British Isles" is used to refer to Great Britain and the islands surrounding it.

      It's not a country, it's a sovereign state.
      England is a country.
      Scotland is a country.
      Wales is a country.
      N. Ireland is a country but sometimes referred to as a region. Sometimes province.
The state is that collection of countries.
Sometimes colloquially people do interchange the terms state and country freely, but that's only because a state can be any number of countries including the number one.
It's technically inaccurate to refer to a state comprised of many countries as a country itself.
The country I live in us England. The country my friend John lives in is Scotland. We both live on great Britain in the state called the UK.

    • @alexojideagu
      @alexojideagu Před 8 lety

+Sal sean I am British. A Sovereign state IS a country. The USA is a sovereign state. The UK is a COUNTRY. Even David Cameron states this in all his speeches. England does not have its own government, which is part of the problem with Scotland. Scotland can vote on English issues.

'If it ain't broke don't fix it'
That is a general attitude toward monarchy in the UK, and there are plenty of people who will completely disagree with me - their comments to follow I'm sure.
It isn't a system of government though - our government is formed of the party leaders of the political party with the greatest majority in Parliament. MPs are elected on a constituency (roughly, county or county sub-divisions) basis, and the Monarch just sits at the top. Effectively, she is a rubber stamp. That is it. Should she ever decide not to be that rubber stamp, then she won't exist anymore. It is that simple.
But picture this - if there were to be an overall control on legislation that is a Monarch, and the law is drafted and put forward by elected representatives...does it really make no sense to have a sensible diplomat, who was born into the role of diplomat, with no political allegiances and a very strong sense of loyalty to 'her subjects', than to have a further elected rubber stamp?
If the day came where the UK is heading into dangerous political territory, I for one would be proud to see the Queen stepping up. Alas, though, it will never happen.

The problem with the Royal Family is it isn't voted in by the people. Theres a vested interest in keeping them there. It's archaic and an anachronism & contributes to our class System .They are detached from reality and live. at the expense of us. The. Obsession saddens me. Meanwhile , schools , hospitals are underfunded .

What's with all the negative comments. The fact is that the U.S. and the U.K. are friends and allies because we are similar in so many ways. Our values, our language, sense of humor and let's not forget that a great many Americans have roots in the U.K.. In fact my great grandfather, who lived in Glasgow, was one of the founding committee members of the Celtic footballers. My mom's parents were both from Scotland.

  • @AndyY499

The first thing I see is that you need to write the UK in 3 forms because some Americans will only know one of the three and have no idea what the other two mean.
