  • A dazzling display of Prince Rama Varma's various facets as a singer, as a researcher, as a sensitive and broad minded human being, as a raconteur par excellence and so much more, in this video where he shines light on one of the most intricate and wonderful of all the compositions by Saint Tyagaraja :- Jagadananda Karaka in Raga Nattai.
Unravelling the meaning contained within the brilliant lyrics, layer by layer plus the small but extremely pertinent little asides and digressions that reveal the equally multi layered facets of Varma ji's unique and extraordinary personality, makes this an altogether fascinating, delightful and deeply enriching experience in every way. A veritable feast for the eyes, ears, heart, mind, soul and spirit.

I believe none of us are male or female when it comes to loving Krishna. Tell me whose heart doesn't flutter when you see Krishna and feel like just get drowned and drenched in His eyes.

Amazing.... For a person ignorant about carnatic music, your explanation of the composition was blissful. Saw all the three videos. Great fan of yours. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much, Varma ji. I had been trying to understand the pronounciation and meaning of the words and how to generally split the sahithya while rendering this. This is such a valuable lecture for all music students. Really thank you for all the time you dedicate to spread this knowledge and for all the manodharma/ raga series as well. Sincerely, Prithi Narasimhan.

Pranaamam. Regarding "Grahanalola" in Charanam 4: Does it mean, Rama grips all the manthras with so much interest"? I didn't get that part clear.
I am correcting pronunciations in parallel as I hear your explanations. You are doing a great service to students. Athi uththamam !!

I asked Varma ji and he said that's what he gathered too. He always makes it a point to stress again and again that he is not a Sanskrit scholar and that he is doing these videos just for the love of these beautiful songs.

We are oriental, Kipling was occidental! And having lived in India, he probably got the idea from reading and thinking over our philosophies which preceded him by millennia!

Pardon me, if there is any stupidness in my doubt. Sir, whether Sri Thyagaraja swami was the composer of all these pancharatna kritis or he was the Lyricist only????

Vishnu's Mohini avataara was of a voluptuous lady, intended to entice asuras. Beauty is not necessarily voluptuous 😂
