There are industries in the UK, one being software, where qualifications are at the bottom of the list for employers, below raw talent and experience. This is because the internet has opened the possibility for all to learn practically anything and with far greater variety than that of a handful of tutors. There is practically no barrier to entry with all the open source and free services and applications. The student also gains several years of employment and avoids tens of thousands of pounds worth of student loans.

I didn't go to Uni..I'm actually earning more money than a lot of my peer group who did go to uni and got worthless degrees.....people need to take on PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and stop trying to pass their debts/bad mistakes onto the taxpayer............if they don't want massive debts, then they should do what I did and make a choice NOT to go to Uni..........or if they do take on the debt/risks, they better be damn sure there is a good job lined up at the end of it.....this should be a no brained for these so called "intellectual Cambridge students"....but seems nowadays common sense is thrown out the window...this shouldn't even be a debate.
