This Gay Man Was Set On Fire?!

  • Actress Gabrielle Union said she splits the bills 50/50 with her even wealthier husband, former NBA star Dwyane Wade ... I have a lot of questions about this. Plus, a gay man says he was set on fire as part of a hate crime but it turns out there is more to the story. And, there is something strange about the Brian Kohberger case and I am sharing my thoughts on what might really be going on.

I wanted to share my story on my marriage. I I had the quintessential progressive marriage that you spoke of with Gabrielle Union, splitting bills, 50-50, not taking his name even to the point of being pro choice and being open to the idea of abortion if I ever had a child with this person when I was not ready. The marriage was tumultuous and honestly I should never have married this person. I was in a relationship with someone I didn’t trust and knew that I didn’t want to be with forever, but I did marry him because he asked me to. I just thought that’s what you do, you get married when you are in a relationship and the novelty of being asked to be married to someone was exciting. After separating from this person, I realized I wanted all the traditional values that you spoke of; taking a man’s name, having children with them regardless about if I’m ready or not, and letting him be the man and providing for me. Marriage is a partnership and yes we’re supposed to help each other when one is weak. I want this to be a cautionary story for anyone who is thinking of getting married to someone they don’t completely trust or see as their family. Don’t get married because you’re scared to be alone or anything like that. Get married to someone who you know you trust with all your soul, your well-being everything because that’s the only way to have a true marriage. Being with someone you love and who loves you, who you respect and who respects you back and who you trust and who trust you back. Trust me, I also was not perfect AND I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes and appreciate the lessons.

Do not EVER go 50/50 financially with a man please, but it’s good to keep your father/families name. That’s your identity. To me taking a mans last name is like taking his identity or his families identity. He’s not your father, he’s your husband, and the marriage might not even work out (which is not what we’re hoping for but you know, things happen). It’s more secure to keep your own last name. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

@@marryamazraI see your point but I have to disagree only because taking the last name of your husband doesn't mean you're his property of he's your father. It represents you are a team. The reason women take the man's last name and not vice versa is because it's the man's duty to be the provider, protector, and head of the household. Marriage is forever. Taking your husband's last name doesn't make you lose your identity as you're becoming one with your partner. Just my two cents, I respect your opinion!

    • @Yellow-Rose
      @Yellow-Rose Před 11 měsíci +15

@@marryamazranot taking your husband's last name because you're afraid it's not going to work out? Maybe you shouldn't get married if your relationship is built on such a shaky foundation. I would take my husband's last name for consistency, to have the same last name as my children, and I would be proud to be in his family and represent the name. Your husband becomes your family too remember? Btw your father's last name is only half of your identity. Your point doesn't make sense if you do the math. Sometimes too a woman wants to change her last name when she gets married because she's coming from a bad family and doesn't want to be labeled as one of them, so taking on her husband's last name is refreshing. Nothing wrong with 50/50, or even if the woman made more money. Nothing wrong with the woman staying home and taking care of the kids and not working either. I think a secure and loving relationship can endure these things.

It’s baffling to me what the US has becomed, I’m Peruvian and I’ve visited the country twice and I’ve always had this great respect for it. And it’s crazy to see people excusing crimes as severe as assault (specially of a pregnant woman) with supposed homophobia. What it’s really concerning to me it’s the fact that the stuff that happens in the US ends up happening in latinoamerica eventually. It would be horrible to see the values of the Latino society crumble. I think the main problem in America as of today it’s that people are too tolerant, it’s really important to be respectful, but nowadays that respect has turned into a demand of praise.

I wouldn’t say too tolerant but inability to think critically and judge on their own. Instead most people expect mass media to make their decisions for them. Like for example one of my best friends, she is super liberal, however I believe this stems from a super religious household and repressed trauma. When she, tries talking about politics, she only sees her side and as soon as I mention something that she has no counter attack for, she’s done talking about politics. Don’t get me started on when, I asked her opinion on why no one liked Megan Markle. Pardon my language, but “bitch”, both of us have never met this woman nor any of the royals, so why don’t we both remain at least a bit skeptical. Instead my friend, went on a whole tangent as to racism being the only reason, why no one could like this outstanding woman. I just wanted to clarify that ‘by no one’, I meant the media, royals and citizens of the UK. My friend is just an example of someone, whom can’t think critically and is also a member of the lgbtq+ community. I still remember, one day she mentioned the LGBTQ+ community and I tried correcting her, by telling her there was no plus at the end. Well, these are tumultuous times, we’re living in if my bestie, I love her to the moon and back, is right for once. Trust me, we don’t want to be living in a world in, which my friend is right. I almost forgot to mention this, I am Peruvian American and have visited the country as well 😊. Both of my parents immigrated here to the US, as they believed that the US would offer more stability. While I don’t believe, all that is shown in the media, my heart knows that we are living through unprecedented times. I pray that, people one day are able to, wake up and start questioning the causes they support and be more open minded to another narrative. This can apply to both sides of the political spectrum as even as I’ll admit, when people like my friend can be right at times 😢.

To me it doesn’t seems like a trusting marriage how it supposed to be because splitting bills means when he said my house she want the safety to say it’s half her house and this competition attitude to say I did half of everything with my own money is a unhealthy realationship like u said. When you trust someone deeply it means love to me and you won’t care who paid what and feel good to do the other person something nice. Like me and my best friend we finance eachother and take eachother out where is no need to say who paid more or what ever. But best friends is different to marriage. Nature is men provide and woman are the helpers to the men and keep the family together so it make sense woman deal with making the men and family stronger so he can provide and feel good when coming home. Doesn’t mean I leave when he have a bad time instead build him back up so he get back the power to provide again.

My brother had a child with someone who already had 2 kids but hadn't been married. He married her about 2 years later, and her kids were really his kids. She has kept their actual father out of their lives, for what we all assumed was a good reason.. A few years later, she gets pregnant with another guys baby, while still being married, and living in the house my brother paid for. So obviously they split up, but she moved his little girl, my precious niece, into that other guys house. And they couldn't even get divorced til AFTER she had the other guys baby, for some legal reason. So he has to drop off and pick up his own baby girl at that dudes house every time he wants to see her. But how messed up is that? I don't know how my brother is so strong, I'd be destroyed. But yeah, she just collects kids and men like accessories. It makes me sick

I didn’t want to even include that bc I wouldn’t want for anyone to see this but whatever., And so we just all have to act like it’s ok, bc of the kids. So literally no one calls her out on it, but no one in my family has even seen her.. there’s just no way we could be near her and expected to act normal. But my brothers still being the best dad in the world, he’s not gonna let her keep him from his kid like she did with the first guy. He’s so much better off getting away from her, he’s such a good person and father. He’ll find someone so much better I know it. I didn't realize that there was little evidence connecting him to the murders. I had thought there was enough evidence from the videos, cell phones, pings, and things of that nature that pinpointed him in that area during the murders. After listening to the information you, Mrs. Owens, presented in this video, I looked up court cases, and a lady who was in prison for almost ten years for murder with cell tower cell phone pings as evidence she was at the crime scene was set free, and the evidence dropped stating that cell pings can be off by several hundred square miles. This was years ago, so I don't know how accurate the ping is currently. But if we base it on data from almost ten years ago, then that is not enough evidence to convict him.

Hey Candace love your show. I watch it every morning! You have changed my views on how to look at certain things in more ways than one! So truly appropriate your voice in this chaotic world. On the marriage topic: I live in Oklahoma where it is pretty conservative minded and where there are many traditional marriages. so many marriages here where they divide everything. I can’t really wrap my head around the purpose of couples doing this. I know some older couples that don’t even sleep in the same bed together, and it’s not for snoring reasons. I feel like all these things can lead to a more intense and sad marriage. My husband & I work together, we have multiple business and I show up just like he does, I do our paperwork, it’s a lot and sometimes stressful. There have been days where I feel guilty about buying something because I don’t have a physical paycheck that I cash, so often times I do see it as my husbands money even when I’m putting in a lot of work. Thankful to have a husband who has always reassured me I can buy what I want within reason, I have access to all of our bank accounts and credit cards. I’m thankful for my husband for leading us in this way. I can’t imagine being in a relationship where I felt like my husband doesn’t provide for me. I’m sure one day Gabrielle will regret her decisions. Bless her heart!

There is an element of hate when someone breaks into another's home; when someone abuses a child; when someone robs an establishment -- demanding and taking without consent of those they robbed; there's hate in road rage; in abusing animals; in destroying property, etc. If this man was set on fire -- that's the crime. All of those things are true of course but do not ever get married just because you want to have a wedding. It's dangerous, shallow, immature and narcissistic.

You are spot on with your thoughts on marriage today, Candace. I think people are afraid to make a total emotional commitment to another person. Some of this comes from seeing their parents, or their parent's friends, go through divorce or infidelity issues. We know that many of this generation when they were kids, shared absolutely everything that happened in their respective homes. We parents knew this wasn't a good idea and tried to get our kids to keep some things to themselves. But of course, our children thought we didn't know anything. I do believe that these occurrences of divorce, infidelity, and other instances of emotional failure have resulted in people not believing in real marriage, the Christian faith, and other things that would be considered "traditional." I really do fear for our nation as a result of this generation's beliefs, or lack of beliefs. Without a firmly based Judeo-Christian belief system I don't think that our Republic can survive. This is all just my opinion.

I can understand not wanting to mix finances, there are many scenarios in which this would be normal and even healthy to practice. It also doesn't mean you aren't sharing the money necessarily. For example, if someone comes in to the marriage with no money and a ton of debt, or if one partner has a gambling or spending issue. I don't think it's ever healthy to say "I paid for it so it's mine" in a relationship, and that shouldn't be the reason you do divide finances in a marriage. But to say that once you're married you are no longer your own person or have any solo obligations or responsibilities in favor of becoming one seems fantastical and unrealistic in the modern world. Union doesn't mean two becoming one, it means partnering together for a new shared experience. Marriage is an ideal but outdated concept, and most certainly is no longer practiced or celebrated for the same reasons it once was. Once sex became an entitlement and not a privilege, for pleasure rather than love, and for sale rather than earned...we ended up where we are.

  • @josieml308
    @josieml308 Před 11 měsíci +4

Hey Candace. So first off I'd like to say that, unfortunately, gag orders are extremely common. It's actually BECAUSE of the high profile nature of the case that the gag order was likely issued. There was a similar gag order in the Lori Vallow Daybell trial. In most cases it is to help ensure the defendant gets a fair trial and isn't convicted by the court of public opinion. It also significantly helps with jury selection in high profile cases - if there is widespread media coverage, then it's far more difficult to find an objective jury who hasn't heard of the case. Again in the Lori Vallow Daybell trial, jury selection was VERY difficult and they went through hundreds of potential jurors because it was incredibly difficult to find people who had not heard of the case.
Secondly, the state's case is much stronger than it seems now so it's best not to jump to conclusions. Most evidence is revealed AT trial, not before, to the public. The defense also has all of the evidence the state will present by the discovery deadline. Again the reason evidence is not given to the public is to ensure that defendants get a fair trial. Any shaky evidence like 23andme DNA will be subject to cross examination, or could even be ruled inadmissible. However, I don't believe that genealogy data is shaky evidence. It's actually quite strong - it's how the Golden State killer was found. They create a family tree based on data from sites like 23and me. In the Golden State Killers case, one of his family members had taken a test with either AncestryDNA or 23andme (can't remember which). How it works is if they are able to collect DNA at the scene of a crime but that DNA is not in the CODIS database, often investigators will reach out to genealogy companies in order to find relatives. If I remember correctly in the Golden State Killers case, I believe it was his daughter who had taken an ancestry test and from her DNA were able to match it as the daughter of the Golden State killer
I totally understand that it's very easy to speculate and become suspicious when courts and prosecutors are being secretive, but it's extremely common in these high profile cases. In fact, the more high profile the case, many times the more secretive they have to be (i.e. the gag order). It's frustrating to us as spectators but it's our justice system functioning as it should.
I highly recommend Nate Eaton at East Idaho News for more information on this case! With the Daybell trial, he posted THE ENTIRE trial audio to his CZcams (cameras were not allowed in the court room so as not to sway the jury) and likely he will do the same with Kohberger, and in fact he already has posted many of his court appearances if you'd like to see them.

As far as Brian Kohberger goes, is it possible we are just not aware of all the evidence the prosecution has. I also believe he could have prepared his car in advance maybe covering it with plastic. Then he had the 2 hrs his phone was off to dispose of any evidence including all of his clothes. ( and an additional 6 weeks it took to arrest him)Maybe the gloves he was wearing prevented him from getting cuts? Also the texts messages to 1 or 2 of the victims seems very coincidental. Yeah, when my son was little he liked to play with his big sister, sometimes paint his nails with her, and even complained one Christmas because he didn't get a new holiday dress like his sister did. Don't worry - we got him a new suit and tie, which he really loved to wear at the time. Our son is now 22 years old, is proud to be a man, and can't even imagine how horrible things could have become if we assumed he wanted to be a girl just from his likes and dislikes as a child.
On a side note, the Grandparents were a little concerned when they saw that we allowed our son to play with nail polish when he wanted with his sister, worried that it would confuse him in regards to normal gender roles. We, as Gen X folks who grew up doing pretty much whatever we wanted without parental supervision, saw things differently. We didn't make a big deal about what our kids did unless it was a a safety risk, and low and behold, they grew up just fine and are happy with who they are.
Now we have a government and generation of parents who are choosing to actively confuse kids about gender in schools, believe what a child says about their gender before they even fully comprehend what gender is or the downsides of choosing a different gender than their biology dictates. And they're selling it with rainbows and glitter and pride. Growing up is a process and no permanent decisions (especially medical) should be made during that process unless absolutely needed medically.
Candace, thank you for all you do to provide information to the public in a thought provoking way.

Does anyone else find Gabrielle Union’s bizarre? When I got married, I was elated to take my husbands last name. I believe my husband and I are one and why wouldn’t I also want to have the same surname as my children.
Additionally, the concept of marriage being 50/50 is odd to me. My husband and I give 100% of ourselves to each other. We share everything and have one savings and one checkings account. Originally we were going to have “fun money” or “allowance” but it’s not necessary. We have full transparency and if we want to buy something for ourselves or go out with friends it just comes straight from our account. Same thing goes for our kids, we have 2 toddlers and a baby on the way. We’ve never had to “split” bills.
Marriage is falling apart because divorce is a resolution to the tough issues and I also believe because of the lack of children. Have people forgotten that the word matrimony etymologically means to make a mother. Family is one of the purposes of marriage - and while there are people who have infertility problems, it doesn’t change that one should enter marriage with such prospects and intentions.

Every culture is different...don't Latinx women have different last names from their husbands? It's like everyone in the household, (husband, wife, male children, female children) has different last names.

If anything, children are a reason to split up. You and your spouse aren't number 1 when kids come along. Couples who choose not to have kids typically divorce for reasons that had nothing to do with them changing their minds, and they are always glad that they didn't have kids with someone they are now divorced from. There is so much more to marriage than just raising children.

@@olilumgbalu5653 hi. As a LatinA woman, I would like to respectfully explain our naming customs. Firstly, in the Spanish language “Latinx” is not a word. That is a made up term.
In Latino culture, each individual has two last names, their paternal grandfathers name, followed by their maternal grandfathers name. When you marry, your married name would be your paternal grandfather’s last name, followed by your husband’s paternal grandfather’s last name.
      Example:
      Grandfather Surname: Gonzalez Figueroa
      Grandmother Surname: Ramirez Pagan
Mother (child of the above) Surname: Gonzalez Ramirez, when married Gonzalez de Romero
Father (husband of mother): Romero Perez
Child (of mother and father): Romero Gonzalez
For more info view here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_naming_customs
Since I live in the USA I only carried my fathers last name and upon getting married changed it to my husband’s. Hope that helps to clarify the naming customs in LatinO culture.

@@megankissinger8269 hi! I said “family is one of the purposes of marriage”. Naturally, that would imply that yes there is so much more to marriage than raising kids; we totally agree there :) if you look up the etymology of matrimony it literally means to make a mother. Words and their definitions are important, and allow us to think and understand. That is how you and I are able to have a discussion and understand what the other person says even if we disagree.
I do disagree where you say your spouse is no longer number 1 with kids in the person. Sounds sad and is not my experience as a married mother of 2, almost 3. I also know couples married 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 years and that is not their experience.
While I understand people have different experiences, experiences cannot change the actual purpose of something which you find in the word for marriage; which is matrimony.
I hope exploring the definition of the word helps you to gain more context into what marriage has historically been.
      God bless you.

This is where I disagree with Candace, I don't think because you get married you HAVE to get children. Some couples don't want any and that's fine, its their freedom of choice to go this route and I see no issue as long as both parties are in agreement with this. Some people just want to share their life with someone and it doesn't need to include children, now I have children and love them but that was our choice to have kids and it has been a blessing.

I do know from my undergraduate studies that when a defendant could potentially receive the death penalty, there is extra consideration given because any misstep could result in violation of criminal rights and, therefore, the case would be thrown out. I am under the belief that the state is being guarded to ensure of a fair and impartial jury. My theory is that social media and the media in and of itself is a new beast to try and wrangle while also ensuring an impartial jury. Any grounds the defense would see of a juror being biased or being influenced by the news could result in a mistrial. It’s also interesting to hear the connection between criminal law and DNA sites. I foresee uncharted territory. Either way I hope and pray justice will be served.

As soon as we did with in 1 year we bought a house at age 22 and 24. Had a baby immediately and never questioned ONE checking and ONE savings. He makes a lot more money, but we just never think about it. I went part time 5 years ago, but that was a personal choice for us both because we were raising 2 grands and my daughter has severe heart lung disease and she felt it was better as we did. (She has fainting spells a lot) she has her daughter but her 15 yr old didn’t want to change schools. So I essentially became a mommy figure again when he was 9. Anyway we have a home and a small tiny old mountain cabin that we spend summers at. Our life is good. We need to watch money as I approach 60. He’s 58. Age is creeping and medical stuff happens but that’s life. We’re fine and we will die having shared every aspect of our lives. I will also add, I became a nurse in 1994, I had some scholarship money but he worked two jobs so that he could pay all the bills and let me study. Constantly. When I got done I sent him through school to become a paramedic. So our income grew with each others help and partnership. It’s how things work!!!
