“What happened is that is the second strike to my house, it was not the first time, the first time my house was hit on 29 of November and (unintelligible), my friend, was martyred (died) at that time. What was left were these storehouses that were not affected, so these young men didn’t have any shelter in this camp except those storehouses. They used to come every night to stay here and I used to come every once in a while to check on them, I came here (last night) and stayed with them out here, and half an hour before the strike, I left for night prayers. Half an hour later, the strike happened, the guys were sitting here, Islam (Khamaiseh), mercy be upon his soul, heard the voice and ran that way and the pole hit his head, not a shrapnel or the missile.”

STORYLINE:
An Israeli fighter jet and helicopter carried out a strike in the West Bank city of Jenin late Friday, the military said, a hit that killed at least one Palestinian militant.
The Israeli military said it was targeting a militant operations center in Jenin, a flashpoint city in the northern reaches of the West Bank.
It said numerous militants were inside the compound at the time, and that the strike had killed one, Islam Khamaiseh.
The military said Khamaiseh was responsible for two shooting attacks on civilians, including one in 2023 that killed an Israeli man nearby a West Bank settlement.
The militant group Islamic Jihad said that Khamaiseh was a leader of the Jenin Brigade, a loosely organized armed group based in the camp.
Palestinian health officials reported that eight people had been injured in the strike and were taken to nearby hospitals.
Jenin is a flashpoint city in the northern the West Bank and is frequently raided by Israeli troops.
Airstrikes in the West Bank were rare before the war broke out in Gaza, but since Oct. 7 Israel has stepped up raids and strikes on the territory's cities and towns, killing more than 500 people.
The past seven months have been one of the deadliest periods for Palestinians in the West Bank since the U.N. began recording data.
