    My big Dummy was notorious for eating crotches out of underwear and toes it of socks. Though it was my fault for leaving them out. Was definitely a learning curve with my boy! He was never a chewer of furniture thankfully! Wish I had these videos 12 years ago. With my next Doberman I'll be much better equipped for training thanks to these videos!!

      @DobermanPlanet  Před 2 lety +1

      So sorry your Dobie did that! It's a difficult behavior to correct and being proactive (picking them up/not leaving them out) is definitely easier than being reactive and trying to address it later on. Furniture chewers definitely can create more of a problem! Thanks so much for your compliments and for reaching out! Always great to hear from you!

    Your training tips are REALLY so HELPFUL!! We have had our 10 week old Dobi puppy for 2 weeks now and we have been using the redirection technique so often and it DOES work. We have been calling it the YES/No game. We tell him no whenever he is chewing something he shouldn't and yes when he takes the acceptable toy we present then give lots of praise for chewing the right thing. So far he has learned to leave the bath matt alone and is working on ignoring shoes....Even with the puppy frustrations we are soooo in love with him and so glad we chose to go with the Doberman breed.

    Mine started to chew my shoes after I went to work. They have my scent and it's strong. I put them up on shelves. He Chewy on socks I left one the floor. I was more careful and problem solved. I never scolded or shamed him. Later on I'd get home and he`d pull things out of my briefcase and leave something in different rooms. Funny. We made a game out of finding stuff and then played. It was like him telling me what he did that day.

    I really hope you read this, you're a hero. and I'm very concerned about a choice I need to make soon. The size and weight of a female doberman is perfect for me but is it so that female dobermans are not very playful and goofy or are they just less playful. Please rate both males and females' playfulness on a scale of 1 - 10. Also I need a dog that is responsible but isnt boring and serious, I really want that puppyish excitment but I also need a dog I can trust to be responsible when needed. Please someone help me .

    • @lunalovegood2069
      @lunalovegood2069 Před 2 lety

      I was worried about the same thing too, but still ended up going with a girl pup, and let me tell you the playfullness is there alright! And sometimes almost too much to handle! She's 8 months now and is a goofy little gal always ready to play or spend time with me.
      Also, i have seen that female dobies are easier to train as they tend to be more focused in you than other distractions.
      So I think you should go with a female without worrying about the puppy energy!
      One thing though, I think playfulness, being goofy, and being a velcro pup depends more on each pup's personality than it does on gender. So maybe while deciding on your pup from a litter, look for one more interested in you, and the one following you around.
      I would also look at the Voldhard test (i believe there's a copy on Doberman Planet) for specific traits you want to see for that.

    We trained Nyx to chew 2 things.
    At first it was the softer puppy bones and a "stress" ball. Her favourite ball is the dark blue with orange stripe Chuckit.
    With her adult teeth, she uses naturally shed elk antlers or any peanut butter flavoured nylabone.
    Soft plushies are only used under supervision...she finds the weakest point in the toy and exploits it to the point of destitution lol
    2.5 hours is the longest she's been home without humans. She paces for 10 minutes then gives up and goes and lies down 😁

But he only causes trouble when I’m at work. He goes on the couch. And even if I hide everything, he ends up pulling a box out from under the bed, cabinet etc. or goes up and gets something from the table. Since speaking through camera doesn’t work. Buy lots of bones, always have a bone handy to trade with him or her. My dobe is 8 months and other than 1 pair of shoes and a bunch of useless basement junk she didn't chew up one thing important. But we always had different type of dog bones near by to redirect her attention to and really got on her if she had something important in her mouth (before destroying). But she's been fantastic inside the home, its off property that has been a huge challenge with her I'd say extreme reactivity. To cure that I have actual cooked chicken pieces in a bag in my pocket to redirect her attention away from (other dogs and bikes). Slowly it seems to be working.

    The issue we have is with the TP! The second our backs are turned, lickity split into the bathroom she goes and TP all over!! We no longer keep it on the roller, it’s lives inside the vanity on a shelf... any ideas?
    PS, Koko is 2 1/2 years old

      We keep the door shut.

      Great question! Some people with toddlers who unravel the toilet paper have put a hair tie around the roll so that it's much more difficult for it to unravel (but with a Doberman, it's still possible that they could shred it if they worked hard enough). Keeping the door shut is also a good option. Hope this helps!

      Oh no! That's even worse because it can cause obstructions and lead to major blockages and surgeries. Lots of $$$ and heartache! Be sure to keep a good eye on your pup, the items picked up, & hopefully that won't ever be a major issue!

    Coco likes to steal stuff and put it in her kennel and chew it. Clothes, toys, trash, plastic bottles etc.... Its never her toys or bones, those are for when she is in the living room with the family lol. My other two dobies dont chew on anything

    Give your dog a raw food diet will stop them from chewing on personal items!
