I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

Wow, what a fantastic give-away! Having learnt (British) English grammar with that book, I know how useful that English grammar book is to improve your grammar. My native language is Japanese, which hasn't got the concepts of the perfect present and the past perfect, and I used to have trouble with them. But, thanks to that grammar book, I managed to understand them.

I bought this book in 1997 when I was in London and I still have it today. Honestly, a must have for all serious English learners. Yet, since I bought it on a visit to Harrods I've been wondering why it didn't come with a teacher like Emma! So expensive that the store was (not the book). If one could get both I dare say you would speak perfect English in a matter of a few months.

Hi Emma! I'm a student and I think the most important problems in general are how to study. How to study an specific word, subject of grammar, listening, speaking, for example. I think the "how to learn" (what to do exactly) is the most important thing at the moment to learn something new and that's the problem we have in different countries in schools. In the future I would like to be a teacher and that's the reason that I always ask myself "how can I learn better?" and the reason that I see your videos, I find excellent your work as a teacher, you're really want to teach and that's admirable.
    Thanks and greetings from Mexico!

Currently I am a Uni student (1 year). And my second language is French. (but believe in me French grammar is more brainstorming that the English grammar 😁). I absolutely agree with you that your grammar skills is essential in learning languages. And some difficult topics for me: participle and using right tenses. However there are any other grammatical issues but I presume they are often used in English. I would like to thank you for your meaningful videos again and I fall in love with your accent and way of teaching.

Hi, Emma! I teach English to Italian students. What they struggle the most with are tenses. In Italian we have conjugations (as I guess you know since you study Portuguese), so the tenses are more specific according to the context, while in English you have less tenses forms used in different situations. This is what confuses my students that sometimes don't see the difference, for example, between a past simple and a present perfect, etc.. Thank you for your precious tips.

Hi Emma! Studying português? Maybe I can help you! We have three main tenses : perfect used to speak about things done and or happened despite any relation with the present - Eu fui à praia ( it doesnt matter whether I went there this morning, last year etc). Eu passei alguns dias na praia, mas choveu o tempo todo ( I spemt some days in the seaside, but it rained all the time )
It is something like "Hi Emma, your friend has just come round . Where were you?"
    - " I spemt a while on the beach but the sun didnt show so I came back."
No wonder that the present perfect is so hard to Learn!
Imperfect - used to talk about usual actions: Eu ia ao teatro (everyday, twice a year, etc) - I used to go to the theatre everyday. Quando jovem, eu ia ao teatro com amigos ( As younger I would go to the theatre with friends. )
Mais que perfeito - this ome is like the past perfect. Hardly used in the spoken language because We preffer the structure had + participle ) Àquela noite eu tinha ido ao cinema - (tinha - Imperfect ) - That night I had gone to the cinema.
As you can see my emglish grammar is appaling. I hope it is useful albeit very basic as We have some more past structures. Cheers!

to be very first I thankful to you for your such effort to teach us in a simple way. I am a teacher at school but I am a still student at home. I study first and then I teach to my students.
