(Not all dojos are like that but a majority of them are). Also kicks are more risky. ( not low/calf kicks or snap kicks where the hips are still square with the opponent from kickboxing or Muay Thai) Higher chance of getting taken down or getting checked. And kicks take a longer time to recover after it’s performed. Kicks can work, they just require more setup, and you need to be far more flexible and athletic compared to throwing punches. And it’s more tiring. Kicks from taekwondo just aren’t... efficient. They work, but they’re not efficient. There are advantages, such as more damaging and farther reach, but the risks generally outweigh the benefit. You can’t rely on just one strike or move to end the fight, that’s not a good plan. If it doesn’t work, your just screwed.
