It is a 5 month, online class beginning September 1, 2024, although it is strictly work at your own pace. The kit includes full spools of threads in filament silks and real silver thread, in an authentic 17th century palette, as well as everything you need to make the Elizabethan Valentine, with the exception of a frame to work it in. The options for a frame, as well as lacing your fabric and stitching with a frame will be fully covered in the course.

Thank you so much - I had some very careful ancestors who valued family history, so there's a lot there, but only on one side. My father emigrated to the US as a child with his parents and they left their lives and family history behind on the other side of the Atlantic, by design. The difference is striking, to say the least.

Loved you talking about your family, made me think- I know a lot about the men from my fraternal side back to the civil war- but not as much about the women. Who doesn't love a piece of cake after several hours of stitching? I do!
They're a lot harder to find! I've probably spent equivalent hours on Thomas and Lucretia at this point, and those hours turned up several file folders on Thomas, but very little about Lucretia. Most women lived their lives outside the pages of recorded history in those days.

It's a great sampler but the individual motifs are so compelling that it's a fabulous alternative to doing the whole thing at once!

Katie, please don't ever denigrate your sharing on family. I am adopted and my father was adopted so there is nothing there, no roots,no medical history, no roots. I met my biological mother when I was 18 and learned that she too stitched. She too played piano and sang and read voraciously; we even had baby toes alike! Roots are important so keep sharing with us, we all need a tie of some kind, even if it's only the threads of our stitching. Cake house unicorn
That's very true - my grandfather was adopted, by extended family. He knew his mother, but never his father, and he never stopped searching.

Thank you! The china is beautiful but it was the absolute devil to try and replicate in cross stitch - the delicate details and the subtle color washes didn't lend themselves well to a grid! I don't think I did it justice, but I enjoyed trying

You talked about stories and as I looked around at my stitching I recall what was going on and some health journeys I had during those stitching moments. Time to write them in a journal. Please do make sure you follow through, write it down, and make sure there's a way to identify which story goes with which object so it can't be separated. According to family lore, there was a book that went with Thomas' huswife. It was borrowed and never returned, and now we don't know what that was, what it said, or what information might have been lost (the thought that it might have been a diary keeps me up at night). It's moderately horrifying to think about how easy it is to lose vital information...

I love the bride cake linen! I have not tried stitching on anything higher than 40 count yet but would love to stitch a house or a unicorn on it!
You can do it! Plenty of good light - the linen threads are quite fine so I think the holes are pretty visible. It's always worth trying something new, since the worst thing that can happen is you find it's not for you, and you return to what you do like.

Katie, just so enjoy today's floss tube. I am charting out a poem to add to a sampler using a Embroiderer's Alphabet book from around 1920's. So smiled when you showed your alphabet folder. If you were to visit our house, there would be cake and tea served while we talked samplers and stitching. Hi Katie, Once again an amazing video! I am working my way through the kits I have from you which keep me somewhat sane whilst being somewhat displaced in South Wales from the Bay area......I am currently finishing Cardinal Kin (the bead trim) and on the last legs of Rabbit and the Rose (finally!!) after having completed 4 (!) of the bells of Christmas (a wonderful stitch and great ornament exchange choice!!). I have some Marchpane and am keen to try Bridal Cake so hope to get lucky!!! Best wishes and thanks for posting such uplifting stuff.
