    I like your exercise you suggested to imagine standing outside a large building with lots of windows to represent experiences in my life. The key that I see as so very helpful, is to understand I am standing "outside" those past experiences, and those experiences are Not my destiny. Thank you Dr. Leaf for sharing your scuentific research and your encouragement that we change our brain and mind through our mind.

    THANKYOU for this wonderful video! After a lifetime of shame from unceasing abuse I was finally greatly helped recently by reading ur oldest book "Who switched off my brain" which gave me hope by learning I can take back some control over my tormented mind to bring healing to it. So I've just ordered 3 of ur newer books 2 gain further help. This video is especially good because Ive known Ive been cloaked in severe shame my whole life, so pls keep these videos coming.
    BUT PLEASE remember that though you are wonderfully gentle & kind & compassionate in your help, that some of us have gone for decades without being able to find one single person who was willing to help or listen, but found only more ppl who would accuse, condemn & shame us, to the point of us becoming TERRIFIED of daring to even consider hoping or looking for someone else who might care & listen & help & believe us, so it is extremely painful & frightening (cos it makes us feel more lonely & misunderstood) when someone says to find someone who will listen & help.
    So PLEASE instead suggest we try again 2 find someone who will listen & help, & make some encouraging suggestions re this, because not feeling totally alone & misunderstood is a huge part in becoming less terrified to even darie to hope again & maybe even trust that some care & help may actually be there for us.. When those we've sought help from have been parents, teachers, 'friends', pastors & counsellors who have all refused to believe us & so have accused us & further rejected & shamed us when we've sought their ear & help, that turns the fear & shame into sheer terror, & has caused many of us 2 become more deeply engulfed by shame by being totally convinced by all the outward so-called 'evidence' that we must be evil, delusional & insane after all.
    Please don't see this as a criticism of yourself in any way because U are amazing & have helped me far more than anyone just by that 1st book & wonderful videos like this one, but its because I do believe U care, that I dare to mention this, just so U & others will have an understanding of how the abuse & shaming has affected some of us. Thankyou so much again !!!

    Wow! When I listen to the Detox the Brian series and the excercise to re-design your mind, shame was the only thing that came up at the moment. I started researching what is shame but nothing clicked.
    So I reached out to my higher self (God) and here it gave me the answer. Thank you!

    If the shame and guilt affect us when we are children then how can we as mothers do things differently with our children? What skills or talk do we use - can you pls explain....how we do things differently so that our children and grandchildren are more rounded and balanced adults......

    You said your friend was pretending to be someone she wasn't. When she became "who she was" what was that? Was she pretending to be kind and really she was hateful? Did she say she believed in God and really she didn't? Same question like others, we are born with sin it is who we are. If we surrender our lives to Christ we have to put to death our "old self". By not being your "true self" isn't that good, because our true self is our selfish nature?

  • @marylynnsheldon6237
    @marylynnsheldon6237 Před 6 lety +2

    In pondering the root of shame, I am wondering how you factor in the Biblical truth of being born into original sin that started with the Fall - both in the world and within ourselves? Do we not need to experience the redemption that comes through Christ in order to be fully freed from shame?

  • @bonniecondon9076
    @bonniecondon9076 Před 5 lety +2

    Remembering shame and guilt is self righteousness instead of focusing on what Jesus has finished on the cross, we cannot by pass the cross and Jesus Christ LOVE and HE CAME TO MAKE PAYMENT for all sin, rooted in condemnation, meditate on think about Roman's 8..the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST IS MOST POWERFUL

  • @Lazarusrizing
    @Lazarusrizing Před 3 lety

    It's not that I don't appreciate what she's saying. It's just that we must judge. We're called to judge a righteous judgment (John 7:24). So if I discern (not condemn) that there is a very real attitude or thought that undermines this person or person's faith in Christ, then isn't it an act of love to point that out? Dr. Leaf professes Christ. Look, everyone judges without exception. The question is by who's standard? Yours or God's? If we never judge with a secret motive to flatter, then how can there be any recovery? There are no guardrails.
