  • Today I drive the Porsche 992 Base model and Review it and take it for a POV Drive. I love POV Drive and what better car to take than a Porsche 992 Base and review it. Watch to the end to see if a POV Drive in the Porsche 992 Base is a good car to review. Special Thanks to Montclair Acura in Verona New Jersey for providing the car for this video. Its for sale right now. Call them at (973) 239-3283 and ask for Tim the General Manager and tell him you saw Glenn's video. The 992 Base is definitely the best value. I prefer the wide body, it has enough power and I really like the color on this one.

    I would get the base and tune it, that's plenty of power for me. Thanks for the review Glenn.

    Anything with the 3.0 turbo motor is actually a great buy. Even with current prices. Didn’t know that design detail about the “9” and “11”. Very cool touch.

    Nice video. I agree. I own a base 2017 Carrera and not being a track guy, it has sufficient power for my driving style. Thanks.

    I'm a manual guy but I reluctantly say the size of the 992 wheel base, body, interior certainly justifies the pdk as it truly has become a full grand touring machine in this form.....it's more a sit back and relax car more than needing the provocation of the shifter....for me that is.

      I have a 992 S, this car is far from a “sit back and relax” car. Road noise is considerable and the ride quality is pure sports car. No complaints about the car, but I’m not expecting a relaxing drive when I’m in it.

    Recount the engine cover it's 9 9 2 not really 911.... Very cool and probably be different on the 992.1 when it arrives in 2024.

    I ordered base my 911 on Monday. I thought I knew what I was doing with my configuration until I saw your video. Now I’m rethinking a few options. I don’t need the added power of the S.
    1. Should I delete the front axle lift?
    2. Add the front grill SportDesignOption front with body color(guards red)?

    • @GlennsCarCollection
      @GlennsCarCollection  Před 2 lety +1

      I think those are both worthwhile options. I think you would get extra resale value with those options as well.

    I have a 991.2 base model , pdk , chrono , extended leather , Sports steering wheel, sports plus seats , cruise , Bose , heated wheel and seats , folding mirrors and 20”alloys . You really don’t need more power . Only if you are a track guy which I’m not . Base a few options perfect 👍

    Glenn, what do you think of the non sport plus seats? I heard on the 991.2 the sport seats were a little harder than the sport plus, but for the 992 it seams like the sport seats are more comfortable.

    I’ve been waiting for an allocation for a 992 911 Carrera 4 since last October. (2021)
    I really like the idea of the base model and adding some options, ie all wheel, ( I live in Oregon….just a good feeling) sport chrono and sport exhaust. Sport seats. Paint upgrade. (Carrera white)
    I did this with my 2017 Macan S and it worked out very nicely.
    Any thoughts, comments ??

      I live in the northesast where AWD is a good thing for a daily. I think I would go Carrera 4 as well. Congrats on the 992, hope you get it soon. I have a 2017 base Carrera now, rear drive, since it is not a daily, with sport chrono, sport exhaust, manual seats.

      @@GlennsCarCollection Thanks, Glenn. You saw the options I’m looking at.
      Are there any you’d add, subtract or “must have” ??
      And this will be my “daily driver”…..
      I made a 1974 Corvette a “closet queen” and what a stupid move.
      Still in storage……what a gorgeous waste !

      @@GlennsCarCollection Glenn….we “spoke” about 8 months ago….I was awaiting an allocation for a C4.
      In January I was advised I would never see a C4……but they would get me either a C2S or C2.
      I went with a C2 and optioned the car with the “S” money. I an old man…..and I figure I try to make 385 hp work and hope my fellow 911 owners would not throw rocks at me.
      Options included sport Chrono, sport exhaust, extended range (23 gal) tank, light sound glass, yellow ring tach and belts, GT sport wheel, adaptive cruise control, 14 way seats wrapped in Agate Grey Metallic.
      It’s supposed to off-load in Benicia, Ca tomorrow !!
      Then, after it clears the port, it’ll go to Sunset Porsche in Beaverton, Or.
      I’m pretty excited, to say the least.
      I appreciated your input….
      All the best to you….

    Can you describe the lag with more details or examples?

    • @GlennsCarCollection
      @GlennsCarCollection  Před 2 lety

      turbo lag, you can see in the video, when i press the car it takes a few rpms to get the turbos going. the turbos you exhaust gases to run so when you press the car it goes through the engine first then the turbos. That amount of time is the lag. Porsche tend to have less lag than other brands by using smaller turbo's that spool up sooner. Mark IV Supras are usually modified from two smaller sequential turbos to one big turbo. That produces big power but this is a lot of lag. I hope that helps

    • @thenonhuman941
      @thenonhuman941 Před 2 lety

      @@GlennsCarCollection my BMW 540 have two lags:
      1. When i press the gas pedal, there is a little lag for the engine to accept my command.
      2. The other lag is the turbo as you described
      So, this 911 does not have any engine lag, just turbo?
      Do you thing the next-gen hybrid can solve this turbo lag?
