- I have made this video for anyone who is curious about the quality of such a cheap ebay violin. This is the second video i have made about a cheap Glarry violin, my other one deals with the acoustic version of this instrument which sells for £10 less. In that video i gave exact details of how to set the instrument up and here is the link: • Glarry Violin - Is a c...
This video looks at the Electric version of the same violin and once again shows me setting the instrument up for playing, as these violins do require some attention before they can be played. So this video will be useful to anyone who may not be experienced or familiar with violins and may perhaps have simply bought the instrument as a gift for a person who is learning.
Alternatively, it may be that you are buying the instrument for yourself and are simply curious to see if such a cheap instrument can in fact be playable and of some use. That is exactly why I purchased the instrument, as I need an acoustic/electric violin to play at open air events where the weather may not be predictable and it would not be advisable to take an expensive instrument.
I have segmented the video as it is rather lengthy, but I felt it was better to cover every aspect in detail to make the video as helpful as possible.
I now have a simple paypal account at www.paypal.me/peakfiddler
If you wish to show your support for my channel and the music I freely share.
A big thank you to those viewers who have already been kind enough to already show their appreciation
I have made a series of videos covering many different aspects of Electric Violins and here is a link to the playlist, should you wish to explore this area further.

Great demo, your cheap violin sounds awesome. Most violin "authorities" would scream "cheap violins are garbage!!", but you demonstrate that you can make beautiful music using a cheap violin regardless.
You are a man of many talents. I have had a marvelous time this hour listening to you explaining the set up process, your liberal amount of humorous banter, and your extensive explainations of equipment, etc.... I should think anyone would be able to get quite a lot out of such an inexpensive violin/fiddle. So, having said that, I think you will be able to have a grand time playing your new fiddle at your upcoming gig. I hope you do not get too wet and you enjoy yourself and your audience as well. I'm grateful you have taken the time to carry us through the process of breaking open the case and the steps to make this a marvelously playable instrument. You have done well, sir. My best wishes, as always. Cheers, Bob
Many thanks Bob
Thanks brother 👍, bout to buy a few of the G406 with square case two bows, which is what I'm after. Here the cheapest bows are $30 , that square case $49, all all the other stuff, basically free violin 🎻 🤓 but restoring a few old Stainers, a Maginni, bout to take top off the Maginni I wonder if it has corner blocks 🤓 the French Artisto had beautiful corner blocks, once get the glue I'll be putting them all back together. Thanks for sharing my friend 🎻
Thank you so much!!!! I really enjoyed this video, I bought this violin a few weeks ago and you has definitely helped me to love it even more! Amazing sound!
Thank you very much! You are a fantastic teacher👏👏👏
You are welcome!
Great video, thanks !
The Glarry website says that the top is a high quality spruce panel, and the back and sides are of a maple.
How does this fare as a beginner instrument for irish music?
Thank you for your valuable video!
It's ok to get started with, in case you decide it's not something you wish to pursue. After a year or so, you will most likely fancy getting something a little better in terms of quality and volume.
There is also an all acoustic version which is £10 cheaper which would certainly be ok to play in an acoustic session, as it's pretty quiet, which for a newbie could be seen as an advantage. I provided a link in the video description.
If you do decide to take the plunge, don't forget to give my beginner lesson series a whirl, all free and so is the notation, no charge. Once again the link is provided in this video description below.
These instruments are cheap because they are not set-up, whereas a more expensive instrument would normally have had this done, so it depends where you are on the craft ability scale.
Hope that helps you a little and good luck.
Hi, I have just set up my own Glarry electric fiddle after watching your video. I already own an acoustic one and wanted to try electric at gigs. Thanks for all the tips etc. Do you think it would be better with some more expensive strings? If so what do you recommend?
Yes, I changed my strings to Pirastro Tonica medium gauge as soon as I started to gig with it.
@@peakfiddler Great, I’ll try those. Thanks
