I was a black nerd back in the 70s and 80s. Watching Star Wars and listening to hard rock. I got teased mercilessly. Today I am comfortable in my skin and happy to say that this is one of the many songs I blasted on my boom box instead of rap LOL. I have zero regrets. This song is sheer PERFECTION!!!

Born in 64 gave me and my generation SO much music choices, I do mean fabulous bands like Rainbow, Led Z, Queen, ..etc. Appreciate these excellent singers and musicians now..there will be no more like them.
1979 Hoping it was in the 80s, I just couldn't remember. I do remember this song playing at the Rollerskating rink. I skated therefrom 78-82. What a time it was John! ;p

Rainbow, along with Bowie and Queen, were my 'getting ready to go out' preferences in the 70's and 80's ... even now, their music still makes me feel so great and pleased with life! How lucky we were to have grown up in that time?
If he would have been 'totally underrated", he wouldn't have been revived by Blackmore. That man knew a good singer when he heard one. Too bad he had a strict no short hair policy.

This song was guaranteed to have every budding air guitarist in the place on to the dance floor , Me included , a classic Rock Anthem from simpler more carefree days that will linger in My memories for evermore , I just wish/hope the Youth of today could/can enjoy the same pleasure .

I'm 63 and I saw them at the tameside theatre ashton which had been totally refurbished. Richie had trashed a couple of his white Fenders and chucked them into the crowd when he jumped on top of the speaker bank and proceeded to smash holes out of all the new plaster work that had cost fortunes to do. Awesome gig which I won't forget
This is one of my favorite Rainbow songs. One reason I like Rainbow so much is because a guy who looks like an Italian who moved to Hawaii to be an undercover cop, is in the same band that Ronnie James Dio was in. I love both Dio and Graham Bonnet.
Honestly, the whole band was like an All-Stars Band - Don Airey, Roger Glover, Cozy Powell, Ritchie Blackmore and of course the allmighty Graham Bonnet. There was not a single musician who would not be a master of his craft.
I must confess, this is one of my all time favorites. The guitar riff gets stuck in your head and the vocals are amazing. I must have watched this video over 50 times, as this copy has the best audio I have found. Thank you for posting. Rainbow rocks.

The sound was a product of it's time. That's why you would like Night Flight Orchestra - they ape this sound perfectly. A bit too perfect for my taste, but anyway. They have 2 albums and a new one out soon.
When I got out of jail, I walked into my house for the first time in 65 days, turned on the radio, and you guessed it, this song came on almost immediately! It was like my house was welcoming me back home! OMGosh!!!

I was taking bass guitar lessons back in the early 80's at a local music shop, one day the owner said he had a special treat for everyone who was taking music lessons and to come to the studio he had in the back of the shop on a particular day. So on that day I went out of curiosity to see what was going on, Rainbow was there and they did a live performance for us, they put on a great show and it was cool to get to meet them!
How lucky can you get? That is amazing. Were you aware at the time how big a deal it was or just in hindsight? I realize this comment is four months old but really am curious about the encounter.
@@wasntme9578 Yes I was aware, and as a young musician in training at the time it was a huge thrill to see them live, up close and in person, all the band members were very friendly and outgoing to us. Now, whenever I hear them on the Sirius rock channels, it brings back great memories of the encounter!
HA! I am proud to say that I have seen Bonnet singing live with the Michael Schenker Group in Sheffield in 2017. Took my then 13 year old daughter along with me.

The descending line-cliché employed in the verses is such a standard device, it's a dead give away that he is very familiar with the tricks of the trade. You don't find that in Sabbath tunes that marry the melody to the guitar riff. Then there's the good old whole-tone-up modulation to takes us back into the chorus after the mid-eight breakdown. Just like he did in 'I surrender' and 'God Gave Rock and Roll to You' I mean, this is a guy who knows the formula and he's sticking to it,
Rainbow 1980 Rainbow knocking it out at Donington Monsters of Rock, 38 years later Graham Bonnet was still knocking it out perfectly at Pontypridd's Muni Arts centre. Excellent.
58 yrs old here. Used to cover this song back in the day when we ran out of our own stuff. I can still hit these notes but good god they are high, especially the end mod. Graham Bonnet is a monster and a force of nature.
There is a video on here now where he was singing it back this past Demeber (2022). He still can reach tbose highs, but he sounds like an old man singing it.

The descending line-cliché employed in the verses is such a standard device, it's a dead give away that he is very familiar with the tricks of the trade. You don't find that in Sabbath tunes that marry the melody to the guitar riff. Then there's the good old whole-tone-up modulation to takes us back into the chorus after the mid-eight breakdown.
