This was the key move that helped me with backhandspring.

It's such a functional progression for the backhandspring, it eliminates the fear of going backwards, trains the body's muscle memory, and is a fun workout when performed in reps! Which by repetition, you can master every detail behind the movement.

@@MoveWIthMendoza Yes, I used it since I didn't have a safe environment to train backhandspring directly. The only disadvantage of this method is that the backhandspring is a bit crooked and needs a lot of refinement to make it straight.

@@Hitokage So true... That's why gymnasts train linear movements so strictly because the off axis motions lose points. If you're determined to fix it though, it's possible to make the adjustments. 🙌🏽

Loving the style of these new vids. There are two types of movers, those who injure out and those who get smarter and more efficient. Great to have the latter around :) I actually do a lot of this already but supporting my upper back with a balance ball and rolling it to the lower back. Had I started young and not at 51 then the above would be all I needed, nice work.

So true! I occasionally see comments mentioning "I used to watch your vids when I was..." and I'm hoping I can give everyone the tools to get back to moving again, without the desire to go big and famous and do scary stunts, but to stay mobile, fit and flexible as we continue to age. Something unconventional.

@@MoveWIthMendoza I tore a muscle last winter and took four months to get back my QDR rotational. I put up a video on how, it lasts half an hour and is extremely boring unless you follow along. It took a month of twenty minutes a day for it to work. Most of what youtube pushes is advertainment, great for getting kids injured, setting false expectations and horsesh1t apps. Solid tips from seasoned professionals disappeared when PR companies seduced a few moderately talented but grim and wooden folks to push rubber bands and dull practice with flashy videos of moves any kid at a local gymnastics centre can do better. The funniest are the 'sciency' ones, not science at all just pathological statitics from idiot middle class PhD students chosen for their lack of insight bribed (wether they know it or not) by food supplement and gymn membership pushers. It could be worse though, I coudl have had an operation if my insurance was good enough........Never stop moving and never ever ever copy robots.

@Move With Mendoza Hi epic. Years back, I'd sometimes see some doimg the Macaco (Valdez) with both hahds facing straight. So in eseence, it would be a mini backhandspring. Could what they were doing be seen as an advanced Macaco, or a flashier variation?

Good question! In this tutorial, I reference how to turn your hand outward making it easier to come out of the macaco with hand placement aligned with the movement. Which sounds like what you're describing. Unless they're reaching back with both hands with a jump, then that's pretty much a back handspring but maybe a little crooked and off axis.
