The Wollemi pines at the Bay Tree nursery at Clarence in the Blue Mountains near Lithgow were burnt in the fires in the early 2000s and have resprouted. Phone Bill who owns the nursery and ask him to send you some photos. My point is that the fire did not kill them. They appear to be adapted to fire.
Thrilled to see the Clethra arborea just now. I was so pleased to buy one from you Stephen in 2014 & proudly carted it to Sydney in the hire car from where I drove it home to plant it in my garden at the farm near Taree. It was a longish, bendy, sickly yellow specimen which thankfully accommodated itself to being crammed in the back of the hatchback, bent over the volumes of gear & other plants I acquired on that trip. It grew out of its gangly, sickly yellow youth into a lovely, healthy green young tree & I was immensely thrilled when it flowered. Then it became sick with some unidentifiable blight & died. 😢 I was so sad to lose it but so grateful I got to see it flowering for me.
@@thehorti-culturalists Currently losing Crinodendron white & red I bought off Peter at Yamina Rare Plants stand at Kariong Plant Fair. It’s got to be the humidity they’re objecting to cause they’ve been watered consistently. 😢 The white Patagua flowered for me at least.
Watching Fridays Gardening Australia I think on Sunday. Potted biography given by yours truly. Nice to get a more rounded history of your good self. Love your partner’s botanical illustrations. Congratulations to him for the success of his work in America. 👏

I do plan to do some filming in The Geelong Botanic gardens if allowed at some time! Alistairs garden may be a challenge but who knows. Regards Stephen
Our fagus grandiflora here in the southeast US is very interesting right about now nearing winter's end with the foliage still on the tree even though it is a bright tan ..the forest has many scattered throughout...how different is nothofagus.???.. fagus betula (European) doesnt like our heat heat and doesn't like it here but,,,,I have one grafted onto our native Grandiflora and its doing fine...who knew...???
The Nothofagus are usually quite small leafed and usually have more of a giant birch like habit than a beech one and of course quite a number are evergreen to boot. Regards Stephen
If Lawson chamae's are healthy, they are great, but if unhappy they are dogs. Here in the southeast US don't think about it unless in pots....any August rain is a death knell...in 3 days they melt....
they survive our winters just fine but the minute we have a hot day rain ,,,, in 4 days they are dead.... i've watched it a few times on a few different cultivars some grafted on the disease resistant rootstock to no avail.... they just won't live in the ground here....... we'll see how long in pots....???

32:00 Burncoose Nurseries has Nothofagus moorei as a 'large shrub' or 'small tree' growing to 3m spreading to 2.5m!
