My herding dog came off of farm. He might have a cushy comfortable life compared to the horse trailer the farmer had the pups in 🤣 but he’s never caged, rarely home alone, has a companion dog when he is home alone, is walked for miles every day, swims in the sea often, and gets to run run run in open fields. You’re right, MOST people should not have these dogs. Most people are selfish and lazy.

If the owner of a Border Collie leaves the dog home alone for a hours and then goes for a 15 minute walk around the block.... that'd be disastrously bad for the owner of that house. These dogs WILL find a way to entertain themselves, even if it means chewing all your window sills, blinds, and curtains.

We owned a terrier and blue healer mix and the dog was absolutely fearless also. Loved and I mean loved to hunt though. But extremely intelligent and very protective over who she considered bonded with. But also extremely affectionate though. If she saw you laying around, she would lay on top of you.
But she didn't like strangers who would suddenly come into our space. It could make some people very uncomfortable the way she would react and let people know she wasn't cool with them yet. But very tough and scrappy dogs.

About 15 years ago at a highway crossing in MT, I was the lone motorist who was lucky enough to be treated to the display of around 30 to 40 head, being controlled by only 3 dogs and a single Rancher on a 4-wheeler, who was whistling commands to his Border Collies.

He’s watching not only the bull he’s trying to break but all the cattle AND his owner. The athleticism to dodge just enough..the inhibition to bite just enough..I have been obsessed with dogs since I was little and border collie was always my favorite even after 10 years in a dog career. Even though they are my favorite and I want one so bad, seeing them in natural environments like this and working in agility, tricks, and other sports let’s me know I am NOT the right owner for one and I would not do it justice!

I do t think you can ‘make’ a dog watch and learn. These are all working dogs bred from a working line also so their natural instinct of curiosity and wanting to do the same thing is incredibly strong. They will also have been tested as puppies also and only those kept that already show herding instinct along with fearlessness so all those dogs will be curious and relatively easy to train by the farmer. They watch because they want to be doing the same thing - it’s what they’re quite literally born to do!

That dog, (and the very word "dog" describes something or better yet someone noble!) took his queues and perfect beats upon command. Complete and ultimate trust between the man and his dog and dog and his man! This potent clip speaks deeply and awakens something subconsciously known: dog and man and beast of the fields are intertwined upon this earth and we speak each other's language when we all take time to be insightful and aware. Something beautiful in this display of animalisiticism. Thank you.

I like watching the different breeds parade around at the dog shows but it's wonderful to see a dog doing what it's designed to do.

Having lived with Border Collies for years, i shouldn't be surprised at this, but, they never cease to amaze me, by far the most intelligent dogs (not sure dog is the right description as they are much more than that) and amazing friends

When we deployed to Romania to build/improve roads and such on a Romanian military base, we got stuck on a convoy because a bunch of sheep were blocking the road (a lot of sheep farmers also shared the land the base was on). I looked around to call over the shepherd but then I see this little blue heeler just BOOKING it and herded all those sheep out the way so we could continue. I then immediately looked for and found a heeler mix at the shelter and brought her home right when I got back to the states

This is so cool! I have to ask tho, what would you do if the cattle cornered him and actually started hurting him? Do you have something to pull the cow off? Or does that just not happen? (City slicker sorry lol)

This dog has shown an amazing toughness in face of much larger opponents. The cows could not intimidate him and decided to obey.
