- Malaysia’s resort island of Langkawi is often touted as the jewel of Kedah state, with turquoise waters and lush greenery. But since its reopening after COVID-19, the holiday destination has seen slow growth in tourist numbers, especially in foreign visitors. CNA’s Alif Amsyar reports. Read more: cna.asia/3AzGOBg

Yet they still voted for PAS so cannot forget about having foreign tourist who wants to feel free and wear the right costume to the beach.
I used to love going to Langkawi but few years before, even before covid, the vibe is gone. There's no cocktail bar outside anymore, no rastafarian songs playing behind. There are stalls but they all sell the same thing, kebab and burger. I want some east asian food too. There's no alcohol, and they are using cheap sweets and chocolates to replace the alcohol but then I can get better chocolates at the same price outside. I just want the vibes. Also I feel so uncomfortable there, it feels like a religious place, no songs no party. You have to drink beer from a separate glass, and the waiters are muslims, not a problem with me but it seems like a huge problem for the waiters when we order beer, they give us side look, it felt.. unwelcoming and prejudiced. Anyway, not going back. I will enjoy Thailand's beaches.
tourists want to see unique and exotic culture, temples or dances, NOT hijabs, burqas, mosques or shariah law.
@@richarddawkins4607 *Have you ever heard of religious tourism?*
Indonesia is attractive for Muslim tourists or those who respect Muslims.
People who can't respect Muslims must have thoughts like you.
@@AZA020406 Didn't know there Muslim holy sites of significance on Langkawi...
Oh sorry, did I demolish your point?
@@AZA020406 as an Indonesian I can unequivocally say that this comparison is horseshit
It works in Indonesia because there's plenty of places with long and rich history in regards to the spread of religion, such places does not exist in Langkawi as far as I know.
damn local need to respect tourists like God now
it will be even worst if PN rule over the country. Langkawi can become hantu town..
The main problem is the international airfares. Although the pandamic has ended the air fares have gione through the roof. People in Europe cannot dream of travelling to the Far East due to sky-high fares. Also, we hear that most of the tourist attractions in Langkawi are run-down and expensive with the sea water not swimable. Sad/
I just came back from Langkawi and so far there were many international tourists😊
That's why i love it....hate to go to over touristic places be it in any country i visited.
To attract tourists you need:
1. casino
2. red light district
3. weed
Langkawi has none
Too much halal.
It's not part of our culture, why should we showcase these to foreign tourists?
@@entahlaa tourists want to see unique and exotic culture, temples or dances, NOT hijabs, burqas, mosques or shariah law.
@@entahlaa Yes. Tourists often don't respect local wisdom. *A true tourist should respect the culture of the place he visits.*
It's not that the places he visits must be adapted to the culture of the tourist.

I just got back from Langkawi. I see alot of international tourists. So , hang in there, Langkawi. ❤
Now talking about banning alcohol. That will help won’t it.
I was there last August and there were barely any international tourists at all. I think it is still a result of covid-19, the high inflation, ticket prices and other macro-economic issues. Religion has nothing to do with it as Malaysia has always welcomed international tourists.
Ferry tu nak p balik tu limit sangat, kerajaan baru ni mintak ada perubahan, pastu buat pening.
if Langkawi struggles to attract international tourists then how come there are more and more international hotels/resorts brands are coming to the island? I heard that Hilton are coming and not 1 but 2 hotels under Hilton brands will be coming to Langkawi
I spent 4 months staying in Langkawi, nature, beaches, islands, sea water good quality.....unfortunately , like the East Coast and North East Coast of Malaysia, excellent nature , sea / land BUT food and restaursnts are not in good international standard like Phuket, Pattaya Thailand.
During my 4 months stay in Langkawi I can only found 6 decent restaurants.
Any recommendations?
Let's face it. Beaches in Thailand... Malaysia is limited in comparison.
tourists want to see unique and exotic culture, temples or dances, NOT hijabs, burqas, mosques or shariah law.
@@richarddawkins4607 Exactly. Malaysian muslims push their (primitive) religious practice right onto the face of tourists (e.g. mosque prayers with full on loudspeakers, hijabs on women everywhere indicating suppressed women's rights, eating with hands in 2022 etc). And they blame the lack of tourists on 'poor gov support', 'poor marketing' etc instead of themselves.
@@liamnash3102 then why millions of tourists flooding to muslim countries like Dubai, Turkey and Maldives??
In addition to what's been said, let's face it too: Malaysia is too religious and it actually makes tourists uncomfortable.
Makes me think of that one time an earthquake was blamed on a foreign tourist dressing "inappropriately" while hiking a "sacred" mountain
why Bali is more famous than other indo islands or even more famous than indonesia itself?
that's because its CULTURE, truly one of its kind, balinese hinduism blends with natural beauty, i'm sure there are many mountains, waterfalls, beaches in indonesia that more beautiful or more white sand than Bali, but they CANNOT compete with balinese culture and hospitality. in short, tourists want to see temples, exotic and unique culture, NOT mosques, hijabs, sharia culture or narrow minded/hotheaded people.
No they just want to drink all day, they don't even see and remember the culture..
@@richarddawkins4607 if that is the case then why Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Philippines do not attract many tourists as Bali?? those places are dominated by non-Muslims too....
@@riorio745 not really...
The hotels in Langkawi are more expensive than Thailand. That is a fact. Dont know why.
To be fair international tourism hasn't fully recovered from the COVID19 hangover yet.
Other country beaches already blooming... u can see those Thailand and Bali are flourishing
@@mjpo3521 Are tourist numbers there at pre-COVID levels? No? Then my point stands.
While empowering the role of knee-jerk contrarian does carry with it a significant risk of making you look foolish....
Remove flight terms & conditions such as the mandatory requirement to have the covid19 vaccine + booster. Tourism will fully recover
To be honest, Samporna Sabah is much more beautiful to me
but semporna sabah also no many foreign visitors/tourists.
I mean the scenery is beautiful to me
Unless Malaysia gets it's house in order regarding widespread corruption, it's tourism industry will be lost to it's neighbours.
Hopefully the new prime minister can sort this mess out.
Once local visitors done visited all the recommended places and done all the recommended things, what else is there to do? You cannot expect local visitors to keep doing the same thing again and again. There is no new development or something different that can attact visitors, especially local visitors to keep visiting the island.
I been to langkawi for 10 times the past 10yrs. Its a laid back relaxing island to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life in singapore. Here i can slow down enjoy the nature sea, mountains and repair my mental health.
guess it is the dreams of older generations
(now in 60s onwards) to see his downfall. He had his chance to step down gracefully and respectfully and honor like Singapore Lee Kuan Yew but he had choosen the path of being "pull down" and failure and disrespectful and humiliate by his own malay people (more than 83% of the population are Malays). The GE15 will forever scarred and failure his legacy. The results signified discontentment of his constituency on his role in "Sheraton Move" which led to bad Covid pandemic management by 2 Governments after his tenure as PM during Pakatan Harapan as Government.
oops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thailand half price
Vote for PN...Sure prosperous until tourist will come... LOL .....
Qatar Airways started flying direct Doha/Langkawi not long ago… if im not mistaken so does Emirates…
Phuket used to have direct flight to Russia, not sure about now since the sanction. Langkawi can't even attract international airlines to fly direct, not interesting enough for tourists. Poorly marketed
You langkawi people take out mahathir who help buikt langkawi. You never vote him because he too old?tun Mahathir still never lost
I've been 2x langkawi is just boring and lackluster. No good food, and no beach environment feeling.
No worries. PAS is coming to the rescue... hahaha 🤣
If it does not mimic Phuket then we gonna losr

I know who did this ....thanks Renea & ya new little pimp. He's not bad with the camera 😏🥱 ..let the games begin.
The wisest thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in Gold, Silver and digital currencies (BTC,ETH...)
@UCnXtaox2KFdBHiW7XyQfQHw Oh goody, are we going to get a series of pre-written spam about some muppet on Whatsapp who has such a great reputation online but will only respond if someone is referred to him?
