That's a good result from a single potato in a small container in just eight weeks. I wouldn't have thought that that was possible.

Thanks Ivan, that's a nice harvest of spuds in eight weeks from one seed potato, by the way your 'high tec' wind muffler is doing a great job. Have a lovely weekend. Take care and all the best. Stevie

That is excellent from your pot. I’ve just dug some up from my allotment because the wind had got them and they are much smaller. So well done Ivan.

Nice harvest of new potatoes Ivan. A good size too! I use a tarp too and reuse compost. 👍

You & Ginny got a Llvely crop of first earliest from a small container 😊. That split potatoe would have made a good contribution to some home made chips 😋

Brilliant weight from just one seed potato. I’ve emptied 2 of my first early potato bags and got 1.8lb of decent new potatoes, I collect all the little tiddlers as well and coat them in oil and herbs and roast them in my air fryer, very tasty 😋 I’ve still got 3 more bags to empty and then the main crops later on in the year.

I couldn't wait any longer so harvested one small bag of rocket potatoes, got 1lb worth from 1 seed potato, quite small but fine for salad. Will leave the other bags a bit longer. Soil quite dry though. First time growing anything so pleased.

Here in Melbourne Aus we got a couple of light frosts and then howling wind.
The only plants that got badly damaged were the potatoes. At least I got a few good-sized potatoes out of them.
    Cheers!

I love the fast you have over 2lb from just one seed potato! Amazes me the power of nature. Hope they taste as good as they look.

I'm coming to think that a whole series of smallish bags or pots, planted in succession and depending on your climate/facilities, could keep a single person or a couple in fresh 'new' potatoes for a large part of the year, with virtually no digging or other 'heavy' work.

Nice result. Dug my first earlies (Charlotte) last weekend. Didn't expect much tho got 4.1 kg from 16 plants. Could have been more, but as usual I was lax with the watering, Especially with all the rain we had and the potatoes being in an open raised bed I didn't think much watering was necessary. Wrong again for another year.
Will have to put some sort of fencing up around the jute bag planters with the main crop potatoes as they got a bit battered by the wind. The ones in the big plastic potato planters are ok so far tho 🤞

Not a bad harvest of potatoes Iven, considering they grew from one seed potato. All the very best Tim 😊

Not a bad return at all from such a small pot - well done!
The winds here in Lancashire have been shocking today/last night. A very large container with a mature rhododendron was blown over in the garden when I got up this morning to water. Fortunately the allotments/raised beds are not as exposed to the wind as the lawned gardens are, and I was happy to see my peas and beans were still upright! I'm having fresh garden peas daily now, and able to swap/give them away - my friend on the other raised bed planted her spuds earlier than I did, and has harvested some of them already, so a third resident in these flats baked a large new potato, peas, spring onion and cheese pie for a group of us - all home-grown ingredients except for the pastry and the cheese! Pity the strawberries weren't ready, for a 😅pudding, but the rhubarb plants are becoming really well established, so roll on next year!

I thought that was a great result 2.5lbs from a approx 10 litre container and 1 potato. Last year with 4 Charlottes in a 30 litre container I was only getting a max of 4 to 5lbs per container.
Leaving my 10 litre containers another week, don’t hold much hope as nowhere near the growth you have on yours. Had to pull one early as it suddenly all started drooping and turned yellow. Had a bit of blight only 12 oz of spuds.

Yes, you should not have discarded the split potato. Nothing is wrong with it. It is still edible.🥔

That's a decent amount of spuds from that container. Are you putting some other potatoes in?

Silly question . Why did you discard the split potato, yet you put the one with a bit of green on in the bag saying you could cut away the green .

nice harvest from such a small container. I was away for the week and I came back to my potatoes being pretty much yellow/dead., so I was fored to harvest. honestly though I'm happy with the result. now that they are harvested would I be able to refresh the compost and plant another first/secound early potatoe for a later harvest??

Would the split potato work as a seed potato? I've not heard anyone say either way before.
