I'll forever remember the silverdome for the moment Hogan slammed Andre The Giant. I watched that moment over and over when I was younger. The crowd was thunderous.
You should go watch the videos they made for the auctioning of it. When it still had a roof. That was in 2009, it still looked amazing, like nothing even happened.
Damn i got respect for Lions fans who stick it out. Im an eagles fan and i remember going up watching them stink in the late 90s early 2000s. Finally won a SB but are far removed from that team now.
If the urban legends that went around in the late 70's are true, we might find Jimmy Hoffa's body after all. Supposedly it was buried under the cement foundation of the Silverdome. Which of course, would never be torn up. Yes, I'm old and was a kid living in that area when Hoffa disappeared.
I grew up in the area. My High School graduation was in the Silverdome. What a hell hole! Did these fans actually get to experience the Lions actually winning a football game? Ever? I suppose that was a rare magical moment that kept them hooked. When I was growing up in this depressing area of the country, there was a local urban legend that Jimmy Hoffa's body was buried under the cement foundation of the Silverdome. No dome left? Deplorable! I'm being a bit rude and sarcastic, but maybe when they finally tear down this eyesore, we might finally find out what happened to Jimmy Hoffa. He obviously has been dead since like 1975 or 76, when he "disappeared" from one of the classy restaurants in Oakland County. The Red Fox or some name with "fox" in it. Maybe Michigan would get some media action for a few months. I mean, this was national news at the time. And Hollywood produced a blockbuster movie starring Jack Nicholson (he was an A list actor for decades, in case you kids haven't heard of him) and I think Danny DeVito co-starred as a fictional character to make the story more interesting. I don't remember the movie explaining how he disappeared either. Just that he did. We people over 45 would still like to know what became of Jimmy Hoffa. Probably not under the Silverdome. But maybe?
i couldnt agree more. I actually played on the turf when i was in middle school. The turf was awful to play on. The Lions games were a bitch to drive to and actually make on time because of traffic. And the sight lines during the games was also awful. This stadium should have been destroyed at least 10 years ago.

Damn, it actually almost looks nice in this footage! The current condition of the Silverdome is way worse than this footage.

I just watched them recently. That was a really nice stadium. Too bad they sold it to a company that gut it then left it to rot. It's sad.
WrestleMania 3...Nuff Said.
hell yeah!
93,173 wrestling fans going absolutely insane while Hogan slams Andre The Giant.
Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage
Bill Petershiem eowwwwwwww yahhhhhh
I'm from Chicago and wasn't a NFL/football fan till 2002. Yet, I find this very sad.
Pretty old footage here. The silverdome is in much worse condition today.
its now going to be an amazon warehouse lot. So sad.

Cleveland had Jim Brown .He was hard to stop - NFL didn't have Superbowls then .

It was so cold that weekend of Super Bowl 16. Detroit was no place to host a Super Bowl game.
So there roof collapsed in Januray 2015? when did the stadium close down?
the lions left during the 02-03 season. it had its last event was held in 2010. they let the roof cave in 2013
Have any idea of when they will demolish the Silver some?

I heard Hoffa became part of some dam construction in the early 70's in Cali. But who knows.
