Thanks James for the good comparo - will also check out your other vids. I've used NR 600 and 750 the past 5-6 years; light is good but my 750 battery has now given up like my 600 did. My options are to replace batt ($25 via NR, with s/h probably $30) or get a new light. Looking at other choices b/c my NR is a giant barnacle on my bars and the toggle, screw-in mount (part of the barnacle issue) pretty much sucks - doesn't stay tight and moves every time I hit a decent bump. Been looking at Light & Motion 800 - I really love the low-profile of this light, and the spread and brightness are great - and the amber sidelights for driver visibility. But no strobe on L&M which is nearly a dealbreaker. (Instead there is a slow pulse which isn't the same and I don't think nearly as attention-grabbing as a strobe).
I've found running the strobe on my NR during daylight riding makes me about 95% more visible to drivers ahead of me than not running it. The people who used to turn in front of me from ahead on my right with alarming frequency -- simply don't do that anymore. Having a strobe function is a huge asset, and sidelights (and the fact that it can be a side strobe, too) are another great feature. I didn't realize Bontrager has this awesome combo and thanks to you, I'll be taking a very in-depth look at their lights. So hats off, cheers and ride safe, brother.
One other thing I found interesting in this vid - the Bontrager 700 looked to be about as good or better quality light on each setting as the 800. The lower lumens on the 800 did not appear to put off as much light as the 700...maybe this was just an effect of it being on video? Can you comment on this, James? Would also be helpful to have real-world run-times on a couple of the settings (in my case I'd be most interested in med and high as that's what I run most often for night riding) from a full charge for each light.
Nice comparison. I’ve used my Lumina 700 for commuting for over three years and only had one issue. It went into low power mode during a totally dark night ride home, the kind of dark you only see on the continent or in HP movies! I just upgraded to a Lumina OLED 950 Boost and am happy with their products.
The 950 OLED must be nice. That one has the screen where you can set the run time and such?
Great comparison. Ion 800 is the best but the priciest as well. Ion as a wider beam and thats what we need.

I have the NR750 ($65 for the combo system) and it also has a "walk mode" that you didn't mention. I ride mostly on road and like the more intense beam. I think I would probably get a Lupine if I went more off road though for the wider beams they offer ... but at a much higher price. Nice review.

I have two lumina 750's and I dropped one and cracked the mounting rail. Even though Niterider doesn't make that light anymore they sent me the the part that broke for free! And they're made in the USA!!! I wonder if the Bontrager is USA made???
Great review. One thing you didn't touch on that I am interested in is the bracket. Are the the same? I ask because I will be attaching it to an after market bracket that says it fits the Niterider and wanted to know if it will also fit the Bontrager as well. Thanks!
They use different brackets. Bontrager has a specific one but it attaches to any GoPro style mount, where the Niterider can only work with their own products.

I bet there is a way to measure the actual illumination area and pattern and then relate that to other factors, like price. In the age of AI this data is probably vectorizable and then made more useful. Oh, and I just bought the Lumina micro 750 cause it's lower priced.

the nightrider lumina series seemed brighter.
Both are pretty bright. Beam patterns are certainly different
I have had the bontrager ion 800r for almost 3 years now. It has never failed me. I especially enjoy annoying drunk pedestrians guys with the light. Where I lived last year, you could be drunk in thr streets as long as you weren't drinking on the streets themselves. It often made people look for cop cars too, which I kinda enjoyed. Unfortunately, I broke the plastic mounting slide in a fall a month ago(wasn't drinking), and so now it's useless for my bicycle. It's still a good flashlight though, for the lumens and size.

You forgot to show the mounts, lights are no good if they aren’t secure on the handlebar. I find the nite rider shifts downwards from vibrations. Even with updated rubber band mount
Good trick is to wrap your handlebars a few times with electrical tape where the light will mount and when you put the clamp on the bar it will be more secure
I use friction tape to keep my lights from moving around. It’s similar to electrical tape, but with more of a texture.
Why not use them and test them on the bike, rather put it on top of something and turning on and off.
What people want to see is how it is in the real world.

Of the countless videos I've watched here on youtube regarding cycling lights over the past week I've ultimately arrived at the conclusion that your best choice for a cycling light is cheap shitters on Ebay or Amazon. For lights of this price there is absolutely no excuse for quality issues of any sort. You will most certainly find here on youtube that there are numerous issues on any of these expensive lights. A 8-10$ light with free shipping is the way I'm going to go. Thank you CZcams for saving me over $50.
Simply just isnt the case. I have seen and used a ton of lights, and the better quality likes make a huge difference over the cheap amazon ones.

I have the Niterider: MiNewt 600, (2)Lumina 750, and the 900 Boost. I am not displeased with any of them. They have never come off the bike on their own.
@@woodsonpayne8378 are you feeding the strap through the slot first? There is a slot where the strap passes through and then does a 180 to hook on. If you dont do that,the strap just slips right off.
