  • The Vourdalak is an 18th-century vampire tale distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories.
    When the Marquis d’Urfé, a noble emissary of the King of France, is attacked and abandoned in the remote countryside, he finds refuge in an eerie, isolated manor. The resident family, reluctant to take him in, exhibits strange behavior as they await the imminent return of their father, Gorcha. But what begins simply as strange quickly devolves into a full-fledged nightmare when Gorcha returns, seemingly no longer himself...
    The Vourdalak stars Kacey Mottet Klein, Ariane Labed, Gregoire Colin, Vassili Schneider, Claire Duburcq, Gabriel Pavie, and more. The film is directed by Adrien Beau alongside being written by Hadrien Bouvier, Aleksei Tolstoy, and Adrien Beau.
    The Vourdalak will be released exclusively in theaters on June 28.

    • @insane5375
      @insane5375 Před měsícem +5

      @DUNDOM5 well, yes and no.
      According to the Slavic paganism, or call it mythology, a vurdalak is related to death and the world of the dead. It has risen from the dead, has the same ability as a werewolf to transform into an animal as well as those who get bitten by him become like him. The victims of a vurdalak are usually of his family because the dead tend to return to their homes after they rise (according to the myths). And of course the pop culture exaggerated it into a vurdalak needing a bond to his victims to actually attack them.

    • @bovrar2nd861
      @bovrar2nd861 Před měsícem +2

      Vourdalak derives from the greek Vrykolaka, which was the vampire revenant who would come back and knock at doors to seek entrance and lay ruin. They also were said to consume the flesh of the living. The term suffered many adaptations such as the Vourdalak you mention, Vorvolakas and Varkolak in different cultures.

    • @nicksaturn2897
      @nicksaturn2897 Před měsícem +3

      It is genuinly not true. The word for the werewolf is "volkolak" from the word "volk" (волк) that's mean "wolf". Vourdalak is sinonymous to the word Upyrj (упырь) that's mean "ghoul". In slavic mythology vourdalak is undead blood drinking corpse of a sinner who was not properly buried.

      Although Dracula chiefly drew from the Eastern European strega, the vampire he popularized was no longer purely that of one nation's folktale but a synthesis of those and elements he conceived. And as later writers added and modified, the vampire myth modifies. Till we're left with sparkly handsome vampires like in Twilight. But even that drew from Bram Stoker who made vampires a metaphor for Victorian society's fascination and disgust with lust and unbridled sexuality.
