I never can understand how developers can "lose" gameplay mechanics as the technology progresses.
By trying for going for realism (if that's even a thing in pro wrestling), they've lost all the fun elements that make a great video game.

Might be nostalgia but, this to me was the pinnacle of the mainline smackdown games. The roster for both genders. The jank/charming but cool cinematics that only a Japanese studio could come up with. The music. So much.
Quit blaming nostalgia.. so much stuff was actually better back then. Video game companies and wrestling is some of those things.

That’s one thing about the 2k games it gets boring too quick and they limit everything to the point where you can’t really do much that’s why I haven’t bought the game at all they want the game to be realistic and that’s not how games should be I’m glad aew is making something like hctp because I was soo addicted to that game even tho If it was hard 😂

I use to play this game almost religiously during my youth. Everything was just amazing. And no DLC or PRE-Order BS. The fact I can play Brock or Goldberg in the same time was just amazing. Not sure what happened to the current state of WWE games? But, I have to say this IS the best Wrestling game of all time.

For me it's been about 10 now, before I transitioned to xbox 360 and PS3 to play COD with friends I used to play the crap out of this on PS2 so addictive...great times..
Loved these older games. The way to do things was straightforward and didn't require any special buttons or anything.

I remember having a 4 year undefeated streak with HHH, all the belts possible and was the current Heavyweight, IC, tag team & hardcore champion when I lost the heavyweight Championship to Ric Flair in a last man standing match. He absolutely would not stay down lol absolutely epic game. I ran so many memorable career modes with Eddie, Rey, Brock, Taker, of course Benoit back before you know…best game ever
Man smackdown Here Comes the Pain was and still is the best WWE game. They never were able to match it.

You can even hit that running spear while the opponent is laying on the mat, while he's pinning any other opponent, while he's delivering any finisher, any simple move, while he's holding on to a belt in a ladder match, basically any fucking way possible.. that spear is dope in htcp!

Simple to learn, yes. But it’s super immersive at the same time which is why it’s the best wrestling game of all time imo. You could get so much more creative with the gameplay. Even things you didn’t think were possible had a secret special move you could do or a hidden area inside the arena to perform a crazy stunt.

No it doesn’t. That’s just nostalgia talking. Can you imagine if they made madden or nba 2k arcade again? That would suck. I love the realism in the WWE games, I love trying to simulate a real wrestling match. It’s not 2003 anymore bud, games have moved on to better things.
@@wwe52891 nah, these newer 2k games just get boring way too fast. nostalgia is one thing..but some of these older games are still better than what we have today in many instances as far as wrestling games. probably why AEW is going with the "old school" feel of their upcoming game. and why 2k23 added Cobos punches and sped the game up a bit. video games are meant to be fun to play.
