Boosey & Hawkes Concert Band - Grade 4
Written in 1943-44 as a ballet for Martha Graham, Appalachian Spring is one of Aaron Copland's most celebrated compositions and winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1945. In this edition for concert band, Robert Longfield has skillfully adapted the most striking and beautiful sections from the orchestral suite. The work ranges in scope from delicate and soloistic to the overpowering force of the full ensemble, culminating with Copland's signature setting of “Simple Gifts.” A wonderful opportunity for band members and their audiences to enjoy this beloved music from one of America's preeminent composers.

Played this song freshmen year of high school. It gave me stage 5 cancer and PTSD.
sounds like you're still in freshman year
Same! All those things said is true for me
Played this in seventh grade and loved it. It was hard but was amazing when we accomplished the entire piece.
@@braydongray6130 LIfe is like that, Braydon; the hard stuff is usually amazing when you accomplish it,
@@charlietian9843 I am a senior now, and I am still scarred for life.
Playing this tomorrow and it is a good arrangement
6:17 Meraculously, love this part of the song, the trumpet part is so broad and it's like bells. I love it!
What a powerful piece!
The trumpet solos at 3:27-3:36 are the most memorable moments for me in this! That section is my fave part of the original and this arrangement!
6:53 to the end is probably my favorite part tbh
I've loved this song for like, I don't know how long, maybe the video was uploaded. And now my band actually gets to play. And I got so excited! Yay!
I'm surprised my lips don't hurt after this song. I'm playing oboe by the way.
That horn part at 3:22 is no joke.
Dr Fuzzy Pants i hate it soo much lol its super high
lol try playing Vesuvius or American Overture for Band lol
Haha I just listened to the first bars of american overature today and cringed
ive only been playing for a year and i gotta play this... hella fun but hecking hard
It certainly sound nice! I am an amateur horn player and I just tried playing it: for me it's not too hard. I think the main things that makes it hard are the jumps while already being quite high and just the nerves you might get when playing it on a concert.
We are playing this piece for our festival season this year. I can't wait. I love Copland.
i realize I am pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Xavier Leandro flixportal =)
@Joel Jax Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!
@Xavier Leandro No problem :)
Lovely!
I love the part at 1:37
Hows is everyone else playing this in 7th grade.....its my last year of high school and we still find it too hard to play lol
They’re probably capping to be honest.
Wait, was this a recorded version or are these the sounds from the program it's written in? If so which program is this? These sounds are amazing!
It is a recording. I was blown away when I thought it was a MIDI/
this song is so hard for me!! (ee 7th grade band) and i play first horn!! ((ff im also the only horn) the part at 3:22 is amazing and so much fun to play. this song is just amazing beautiful
So, you're in 8th grade now; I hope you're still in the band.
At first I thought what a missed opportunity this arrangement is for the euphoniums. Then I saw the orchestral score for the violas and cellos and, wow Copeland didn't give these voices much to do in this piece.
Appalachian Spring for busy people
Anybody hear the gasp of air at 7:45
Not yet
Oh wait I heard it
3:07 I have to practice that part over and over again. I didn't realize how hard it is on oboe (not really).
Absolute hell on clarinet 1. Almost as hard as oboe
สุดยอดไปเลยยยย
Great to go.

I think so! I played the Simple Gifts Suite by Frank Ticheli Freshman Year and then later I heard SCV simple gifts and I fell in love lol. And now I am going into my Junior year and playing this in my summer wind ensamble and when I found out this had simple gifts in it I was really excited and then when I heard the part at the end which is SCV’s ending I was like YASSSS THIS JUST GOT SO MUCH BETTER!!!! I can’t wait to perform it :D

This arrangement felt awkward to play in all honesty. Clarinets are not violins!
I hate this song so much. Everytime we have to play it I get so upset
The flute is not that good
