I just found your videos of Red Carpet inn Scranton and I’m laughing because I stayed there twice in 2018/2019. I have pictures, it was sooo bad, but I needed a cheap place to stay in the city because I was in town for concerts.
And it was probably Indian writing, I remember it was an Indian family that ran the place.

Interesting tour Jay. Thank you. When you went in that office with all the personal things I was thinking that might have been the “lost and found” room. Also, I know people who bring their own pillow when they travel. Now I know why!

The videos covering this were great. I love old motels. I know the era of motels is passed but I used to think motels were particularly interesting being privately owned and I thought they had such character before all the corporate motels came in. I just think hotels and motels have a different feel and I feel like in my life time they lost their old time charm and just became synonymous with crime or low income people so it is sometimes sad to see them leave like this.💜

@JP VIDEOS I'm adding comments already subbed, I hit the like 👍 button, and commenting for algorithms lol. You never cease to amaze me. I've watched your videos for a long time. What you amaze me with is... Just as I'm wondering or pondering things like... Did he turn the lights off? You always ANSWER "yes if you're wondering I did _______!" Gotta love it man. I really enjoyed the thought processes I was going through while you were giving us the tour. This once grand proud place became the unwanted, the undated for, the forgotten. The age only truly showed in the areas used after it was last owned. Seems it became more of a broken heart, broken lives place of refuse. Bless all the ones that have graced the thresholds. Thank you for bringing the old gal out for one more grand tour. Much respect to you. Now I did freak out and found myself leaning as far back as I could at that stairwell. And that boiler room... Holy smokes I was like run its creepy as Freddie ever thought to be. Take care and I'll see you again soon.

That was so awesome and very interesting. Part 2 did put more light on what was going on. That basement definitely did have a creepy vibe and I thought it was so strange to see a load of sheets in the washer. It was like they were doing laundry and then all of a sudden that was it, leave everything as is, and out they went. I can't believe how nasty those pillows were and also the one in the room too. The skyscraper sounds like it will be super nice and will be great for Scranton. Thank you so much JP, really great video!

@JP VIDEOS Thank you. I really enjoy your videos. I had to chuckle on the "hot" water heater vs "water heater" Technically, yes they are water heaters. Even the carton shows WATER HEATER. If it's working properly, you do get hot 🔥 water lol. You probably get the grief from those in the plumbing biz.

    There are strange ways
    Owners/Managers wreck their own business/buildings.
I went to the Local Best Western in Augusta ME.
He had them shut off the Air Conditioning to unoccupied rooms
    It was over 90 outside.
    It controls temps.
    No guest no need.
    It also controls moisture.

Part 2 was great! The basement was interesting and getting a look inside a few rooms was cool. Noticed they kept the HoJo colors in a lot of it, especially in the one room. Those chairs in the basement took me back to when we stopped at HoJo's to eat when travelling when growing up. My brother and I loved when Mom would let us sit at the counter instead of a table. LOL I don't remember staying in one of the hotels though. Mom and Dad had a thing for Holiday Inns. I'm so glad a new useful building will be built. Thanks JP.

The “Superswitch” in the basement was an older telephone PBX for that probably served the whole building.
It provided the features like room to room dialing and the ability to bill guests for long distance calls.
That looks like it was installed in the 1980s, the original was probably some kind of electromechanical system (like that elevator controller you saw).

i never sleep on the sheets, blankets, pillows provided by hotels. i watched a documentarty once where they took a black light to a bunch of hotels, even 5* ones and they were ALL disgusting!! It showed that unless they had obvious spills or stains on them they weren't washed but just remade. the black like showed signs of fecal matter, seman, urine, etc.. so first thing i do when i get to a hotel room is i strip the bed. spray it down with lysol disenfectant, then remake it with my own sheets and blankets. and i don't use their towels either (exception being pool towels, mostly bc even if they aren't washed, most places over chlorinate their water, lol). And then i put them in a garbage bag and take them to a laundry mat to wash just in case there were any bed bugs. I hate having to stay at hotels, but sometimes it's just unavoidable.

It was like a small dungeon down there

  • @dr.leonardhofstadtersavage6413

I agree JP, those are some nasty looking pillows. And thoes big gas mains, in the basement. Wow! That can be a dangerous explosion waiting to happen.

Quite a ride, thanks for making! I was curious so I took at look at the Google reviews. There's a lot more 1-start reviews there than any other kind. The impression you get is a tired, run-down place that had seen better days and indifferent staff. Kind of sad really.
What's wrong with calling it a "hot water heater"? That's what everyone I knows calls it. Maybe it's a regional term?

I've always called it that, but some people in the past got bothered by it. People are funny.

Yes...the basements are always creepy. That one takes the cake. When you were going thru the first part of the basement I was saying...where in the hell is the laundry!!!!!...then you finally found it. Lol....I can tell you the laundry was far too small for that building, the bucket of used soap 🤢 should have been thrown out!!! So what in the hell were doing with it 🤔. Those stained pillows 🤮 should have went straight to the dumpster. When people leave stuff behind you have to by law keep it for so many days. If after being held its not claimed usually the workers are allowed to take what they want. The stuff left after that would usually would go to the dumpster. Oh may goodness that place was nasty 😐 😕.
When my momma was a housekeeper the hotel had an old switchboard. I remember being fascinated how the owner would know what hole to plug her headset into...because there were a lot of holes 😬

HoJo's sold it to Red Carpet Inns - because it was already outdated and in need of repairs Headquarters wasn't going to invest in this property. Red Carpet Inns operated this site as a budget motel and never upgraded anything or replaced nasty pillows or bedding or linens. Either this place was shut down by the Board of Health or this property made less than the annual tax and operating expenses. The Pandemic sealed its fate.
Currently with petroleum facing 200 dollars, plus, per barrow and gasoline potentially reaching $7-12 a gallon - you'll a lot more hotels and motels shutting down across the nation. If we are at war ( seems likely ) nobody will be vacationing or traveling much to other locations.
