Stan... as sole proprietor I mow 65 lawns weekly here in MN. I run Ferris zero turns. Throughout any normal mowing season I maybe mow grass that tall (about 2ft) for about 10 minutes total, for the whole season. It means nothing! Any finish mower is going to have to make several passes over that kind of tall crap to get it knocked down and cleaned up. So... why all the minutes wasted showing these mowers mowing those tall weeds? Lets see curb climbing ability, and abilities to feather the decks up and down on the fly over rough areas or roots, and the ease of maintenance (and the required schedules) and etc. Thanks

I am apart of the Ferris Fan Club. Now that you bring it up Stan I am going to go searching them out now lol. My take on this video which I am sure there will be another follow up on Brian's channel. is you were using the Z2 where the Z3x is a much more powerful machine then the Z2 and it would have handled the taller grass a little better but still would have left stragglers there is only so much room under a deck and when they clog up with that much grass no mower would come out clean. So on that point its pretty spot on in the video. As for the top speed mowing you are right I don't do it but employees may and I have seen them mow over bermuda at top speed and it cut well however its frowned up not for just cut quality but the ability to recognize thinks sticking up in the lawn. Now my biggest take on this is the hills I will be the first to tell you the bolstered sides help a ton and I have made videos on my channel on it mowing a almost straight up hill with my standon. I have challenged a certain CZcamsr and Wright mower owner to a hill test and hope to get it done before season starts in March. Great video and look forward to the reviews of the rest of them.

#1 the bolstered sides do not make it a problem to swing your leg out onto the fender on hills.
#2 The stitching on the leg pad hasn’t caused any issues with me. I’ve used the pressure washer on it and the mower has been used in the rain.
#3 the amount of staples on the back... if he is using 100 staples.. just I don’t know. If the material comes loose hopefully all of us are capable of using a staple gun.
#4 The wood backing board not being treated. I could see where this could potentially become a problem BUT the mower should never stay in conditions to cause rot. Take care of your machine. Or put a sealant on it to prevent any issues.
#5 The key situation. With your right hand on the control paddle use your middle finger and thumb to turn the key. I don’t have any problem with reaching the key to turn it. Now if you have small hands then I could see where this could become a problem.
#6 The glory hole. Haha haha. The gas gauge is pretty silly. Maybe Ferris put it down there to prevent the plastic from oxidizing? I know that was a pretty common thing on the vantage.
#7 the speed. Yes. This mower is FAST. That’s why there is the speed adjustment which is PHENOMENAL compared to exmark (I don’t know how it is on the wright stander) but it is much easier. If you have to blow while riding or travel to a near by house, that extra speed is nice. Be the professional and know the speed to cut the grass the best. When it comes to your employees, be the boss and give them orders. If they don’t follow the orders then you warn them, write them up, or something of the sort. There are ways to mark that pin that adjusts the speed. Just try to have trust worthy employees though! All in all Ferris, Exmark, Scag, whatever mower it may be (excluding husquarvarna or however you spell it) tend to be really good mowers. I made the switch from exmark to Ferris and I absolutely love it. Minus the fuel gauge.

After and uninsured driver took much of my ability to do things I was forced to try a new mower.
Even with multi-level inoperable disc disease I'm able to mow my 16 acres with no issues. The mower is absolutely awesome and I have moved things around with it way beyond what the mower would ever be considered normal. I purchased my zx2 in 52inch with Kawasaki engine I have had no issues so far. I would love to upgrade to the z3 but it will take a very longtime to pay off my z2 and save up. One reason I choose the ferris is I do not have to lean to operate anything, and I can drive one handed and use my grabber to pick up trash on the road.

  • @LowerLawns
    @LowerLawns Před 5 lety +8

ive been using the Z2 with the 28hp vanguard and the concern about hills is 10000000% false. This mower takes the worst hills like cake and I know they made further improvements with their z3 models. The only time ive had issues on hills is when I do a full turn on the steepest part of the hill and its been raining. As long as its dry you can do full turn around on most hills that ive attempted it on. Also, there isn't really any need to lean on this mower, I do it out of habit more than anything.
My only major issue with the Z2 is the brake placement. Imagine the day you push the mower to its limits on a hill and start sliding down they really expect someone to be able to reach that thing by going allllll the way over the top? Ill probably be abandoning ship if that ever happens to me haha.
In my opinion Ferris is the only close competition to Wright in terms of build quality. I have not used wright's customer service but if they are more reliable than Ferris in that department then they might edge out a win. I went a month without my mower this season because a spindle pulley was on back order and there were no dealers that had a similar mower in stock in our STATE. I finally had to call Ferris directly because my dealer wouldn't put in the work and after calling them over and over for days I FINALLY found the one person at Ferris who would get up and go find a mower there with the pulley I needed. It was there all along and no one would put the effort in. Lost a lot money that month. Those pulleys should be laying around everywhere at every dealer and customers should not have to put in the work to source parts for a 10,000 machine that is under warranty.

That ferris is definitely better than our mower and you should buy a Ferris over a wright? Come on man this is total bs. Nothing more than a bash fest from the most biased “engineer” on the planet. The Ferris can’t be touched. Sorry not sorry. It’s the best mower out there. Count me in on the Ferris fan club I guess. If you don’t have enough common sense to cut slower when you see it’s not cutting at the speed you’re going you shouldn’t even be on something like a lawn mower anyway. Maybe we want extra speed to get from one from yard to the next when we’re racing down the street? And if they complain about the fuel gauge don’t believe it. You can absolutely tell how much fuel is in the mower. I think Ed rigged the gauge to have another thing to complain about. This “review” is useless and unfair. I want to see the video where Ed bashes his Wright mower and then I’ll let you know how fair he is or not. Like I said. What else do you expect another brand owner to say here? Buy the Ferris over our mowers? Yeah right.

Told them to pound sand ironically they were my ferris dealer aswell but have since found a even better ferris dealer.

I've got an F320z 37hp 61" (best value for money zero turn IMO when i bought it), and a Ferris z2 28hp Vanguard 61", I wasn't sure i was going to like a stander but even though the F320z is a higher spec mower i found myself grabbing the z2 most of the time, it's very efficient on gas. Cut tall grass very well, and the controls are buttery smooth where i use them one handed all the time even in technical stuff (cutting in around house etc) ... Coming from exmark and Scag I'd say both those had a slightly better cut less likely to leave any stragglers, exmark clumped more in wet or thick grass, and i think Scag has the best deck design... Overall i think Ferris is the best value for the money especially with fleet deals and a little $$$ off MSRP from the dealer (something hard to factor in reviews but happens in the real world) ... Thanks for the content Brian and Stan

I’m not crazy about them on turf or fine grasses is my only complaint if you can call it that. My 700 series was a middle of the road Ferris mower size and price for that brand. I run a 48'' Ferris Z1, at first everyone agrees the key and the overall dash layout seems odd, but after you get use to it, its actually laid out pretty well. Its just the way you get use to accessing the controls. I have 500 hours on mine with only 1 small issue that was covered under warranty (someone forgot to greese the front caster bearings in the frame) since they are sealed i never checked them Ferris covered the replacements no halssle. Otherwise i have no complaints. I did throw away the discharge rubber garbage thingy for a Grass Flap and i also added a leaf plow to mine. And since i brought up the leaf plow the Ferris is the perfect design for a leaf plow since they have that bar that protects the motor , that bar also makes the perfect place to mount a latch to hold the leaf plow up when its not needed. Overall i think the Z1 is the perfect mower for what I do. (i do 70 weekly under 1 acre mostly residential ) I have no experience with the z 2 or the z 3 so i cannot speak on those. Mine is also powered by the KAW 22 hp and i have only good to say about that motor. Overall i have to say its one of the best overall cutters i ever owned and ive been in the lawn business since 1994, I ran Toro, Exmark and now Ferris.

I’m not crazy about the cut quality. Most of the yards I mow it doesn’t matter more weeds than turf of fine grass lawns. But mine really won’t stripe one off and does terrible in tall grass. Fresh blades and greased spindles don’t seem to matter. It doesn’t do well in tall grass! I got mine more for the ride which nothing compares but occasionally I would like to be able to stripe one off or do clean up jobs I don’t have to book the whole weekend for. What can I do for more blade speed of better cutting? Thank you, Erik

I've never owned a Ferris but I did demo this mower for a few days last year. Cut quality was pretty good, not Exmark quality but acceptable. I opted for the Briggs EFI engine so mine has more hp and torque. 2) In the manual it states NOT to mow on level 3 on the controls, mow at level 2 on the speed bar, no stragglers left behind when i do this. 3) I have had mine for a year and half and I absolutely love it. I have tried all the rest and find the Wright to be close to the ferris but the ferris just cuts better in my .02 and has a much smoother ride. 4) Hills you state the bolsters will be bad on hills with the Ferris this is simply not true. Look at the tire size difference , I just lean i dont have to put my foot out and it holds the hills like no other. Ferris isn’t bad, just not for me. That fuel gauge is sorta a big when you think about it. And I’m sorry but Ferris just doesn’t cut as great as a Exmark or Scag.
