- Sri Lanka, Ella. I went to try Sri Lanka's Best Roti in Ella town. Joining me on the adventure were my good friends @harryjaggardtravel and @worldnomac
We started the night off by trying a dinner made of chicken and cheese. It was delicious! succulent bits of chicken breast, covered by melted cheese and wrapped in a beautifully crisp paratha bread
Next, we tried a desert roti with an amazing combination of coconut, banana and chocolate all packaged in a delicious roti! This roti was DEVINE!
Finally, I tried the breakfast roti, made of egg and mashed potato. Oh man, my mouth is still watering now that I think back to it!

A few tips on the language machan!:
Very good - "maru", "ela kiri", "supiri", "patta" (these are street jargon used mainly by the youth and young adults in SL, not so much by the adults. perfectly fine when used in conversations to describe how pleased you are about something; preferably with age groups between 16 - 45 perhaps)
Very good - "godak hondai" , "harima rasai" or just "rasai" (all three terms can be used to say very tasty or tasty) (accepted by all adults and even the youth)
How/How are you?/How's it going? - "kohomada"?
What's up? (Street jargon) - "moko wenne"?
Machan - this is like "bro" in English. We generally dont use "machan" to address older people, say 50s and above but it is not offensive.
Uncle/aunty is very much used to address elders and is completely fine.
"Maama" for males, "Nanda" for females are the Sinhalese terms you can use to address older people.
Also, in Sinhalese there's no direct response "Thank you" or "sthoothi".... there is no direct equivalent to "you're welcome"
How much - "keeyada"

Mmmmmmmmmm! I love roti and puri and naan bread and paratha. I love them all. Even if not eating a curry with them, hot roti with butter and jam on for breakfast is a delicious alternative to toast.
