I recently traveled and my son brought his PS5. We had issues getting in WiFi due to captive portal we could not get connected. I was able to use my MacBook Air and used a command to spoof my son’s PS5 MAC address on my MacBook, connect to the WiFi and was prompted with captive portal. Once his MAC address was registered, the PS 5 connected. I just restarted MacBook after to clear his address. This is another option.
I followed this step by step including purchasing the identical portable router to link all of my devices to while staying at a Hilton in Hawaii and it did not work at all. Worked using my home router as the source which makes no sense. I can always get it to work using my phone as a hotspot though but the connection is trash and Verizon bills you for it. Very disappointing.
You can do all of this from your phone as well. Just follow the same steps. Technically, you don’t have to do any of the initial configuration stuff I showed. You can keep all the default settings. Once you get to your public WiFi area, follow the same steps to bypass the capture portal. ✌🏽
The video is very good, In my case I am in a hotel that to connect to the wifi does not ask for a password, but after connected the browser is directed to the screen that asks for last name and room number. Would it work in this case too?
This may have solved my problems. I was actually thinking of linking a Mobile hotspot via ethernet cable to this router. Then connecting ro this router. Is that a viable option?
I’m not 100% sure tbh. But doesn’t a mobile hotspot already have built in WiFi so you could connect directly to that? I know some mobile hotspots are usb and with a usb mobile hotspot you can plug that into the travel router and then broadcast like that. If your mobile hotspot has an Ethernet out port then most likely you could connect it to the travel router. Hope that helps.
Hello. I work as a truck driver. Not everywhere there is internet, much less a good one. Can I connect PS 5 to PS Portal via cable or something else? Or is it better to buy a small TV? Thank you😊
I would say your best bet is to get a tv for if your playstation is with you in your truck. You can’t connect the portal to the PlayStation and use that as a screen. The Ps portal is best for strong WiFi when you are away from your PlayStation. Hope that helps.
This is a travel router and with it you are repeating the WiFi signal behind your own private WiFi network. If you are trying to do what I did in this video, you need a “travel router”. Hope that helps! ✌🏽

The wifi was needing a sign in and not a password so u needed to just connect to the wifi then click it on the sign in to enter eith no password but the portal wasnt allowing me to fo so so i used my tp link repeater and it worked fine. I may still get this though because this is pretty cool but i think i may not need it because my repeater basically did exactly this.

With a recent software update, you are able to log into Public WiFi that is blocked by a log-in portal. It’s not a basic browser. What you do is connect to the public WiFi, a QR code will pop up, scan the QR code on your phone and login to the WiFi. Once authenticated, your portal will connect. Works fairly well, but yes, a dedicated basic browser would be easier.
You bought a ps5 and then a ps portal specifically to play on the go. But because Sony won’t allow you to log into a captive portal, you can’t use the portal for what it was designed. Guys do not cave. Don’t buy the portal until Sony fixes this.

So it’s turns on my PS5, but keep saying something went wrong, I tried my hotspot and it works. Do I need to adjust speed or something?

Does this setup help circumvent the PS portal WiFi6 issue? E.g. get PS portal connected to a hotel WiFi6 network.
Just use your phones hot-spot, simple. No expense needed. Nice and simple.

Why can't you just go to wherever you're going to go log on with your phone then open up a hotspot on your phone and connect through your phone?

Does your ps5 have to be in rest mode when you’re traveling because you need to have the portal connected to a ps5 ?
Yes the ps5 needs to be in rest mode so that you can ping it from the ps portal and thereby turn it on

Yep I just tried this with a cheap generic wifi repeater I got on Amazon and it worked!
