One of the most advanced uses of the SU700 I've seen. This is what this sampler was meant to do. It can be used very well in the studio as well, and I actually prefer it to an MPC, but it was never supposed to be an MPC. I remember seeing the SU700 in Guitar Center way before I even started making music- it was set up in the DJ section, because it was supposed to be a DJ sampler. I've got a mint, maxed out SU700 and it makes it's way into almost every song I make. The 16 bit crunch is more subtle than other vintage samplers, but it's very unique and sounds great, especially once you start layering it up in your DAW. Almost better than the sound is the GROOVE of the SU700. The groove timing, velocity, and overall swing of it are legendary IMO. It's the most slept on sampler/sequencer of all time. The SU700 was a head of it's time, and I don't blame people for not understanding it back in 1999. It was Ableton Live in a box. The storage sucked and still sucks. I don't even save anything in the SU700- everything gets created and then dumped into Live and saved on my computer, then when I'm done I just shut the SU700 off. That's where the SU700 shines. If you're not doing performances like this one ^^^ don't even bother saving on the unit. It is better paired with a DAW and enjoying the swing/sound/workflow of the sampler. @Microesfera - I noticed you struggling with the encoders not working like they should while trying to do filter/FX sweeps. Gotta get in and fix those! It's actually not that hard at all and makes the unit 1,000x more enjoyable to use. I've got a write-up on my website at the link below, or you can find it on Gearslutz. Just search "Scott Brio SU700 encoders Gearslutz". Thanks for the awesome performance vid! scottbrio.com/blog/fixing-the-encoders-on-a-yamaha-su700-sampler/
@@saren6538 I did get it out but yes, it's back in the loft. Funnily enough I've been watching some videos recently so contemplating getting it back out. It's very complicated to use
Oh, and by the way, fantastic tunes! You play this sampler like a pro. Good to see people still performing live sets with real hardware these days, and the SU700 is one beautiful piece of hardware. 👍👍👍
I used to own this sampler years ago and I regret selling it every day. Totally need to pick one up again in the very near future and install a floppy disk emulator or SCSI-SD adapter. I really miss the layout, effects, and solod feel of this unit. Yamaha knocked it out of the park with this sampler and it seems like it never got the widespread reputation it deserved. I owned this and an MPC2000 at the same time, and always preferred this baby to my MPC. Oh well, that just means I can score one on eBay for a steal!
+Jeremy Brainard how works the floppy disk emulator or SCSI-SD adapter? I recently bought a mpc 1000 but I will not let go of my yamaha due to its qualities and build quality but i still playing with an scsi iomega zip drive...
+Microesfera I am not 100% certain that a SCSI to USB adapter exists, but the floppy does, and from what I have heard, it works BEAUTIFULLY. I believe you have to split your disks into 1.44MB partitions, but you could easily use it to save all your samples on a single flash drive. I almost bought a replacement SU700 and floppy emulator last week, but decided to wait a few more weeks until my finances are in better shape. I will let you know how well it works out when I do.
You must have been messing around circa '99-00 same as me. I used this and a MPC 2000XL together. Would use the MPC for drums and set all the sequences then use the SU700 for all the samples which I would play live when recording. Would MIDI them together. I too miss this machine.
Very underrated machine, watching this makes me wish I still had mine. Made lots of great instrumental hip-hop with it, loved playing it and recording live.
First night drinking again after a cleanse break, I listened to this & just went on an amazing journey of sounds. Thanks for sharing your skills! Quality 👌🏼
you should get a single done and have cd baby master it and they could also help you get this track on i tunes. heck it's up to you .nice track, peace . oh ,by the way you might likeo check out Dj Bad boy Bill. he did house music in Chicago.
very nice tunes, I am only owning a yamaha rm1x and thinking of getting an su700 too.... Some questions i have: Does it have the same or similar powerful midi sequencing capabilities like the rm1x? ( for using it alongside other machines) Does it have job functions? What kind of record modes there are? Thanks guys :)
the sequencer of the rm1x is superior, this machine does not have the midi functions to sequence other devices, if they have work functions, it has scenes, it can distort the oktatrak sound of elektron but in a basic way, you can sample and the machine has a Live type "warping" mode for loops, the sound is far superior to the yamaha rm1x sincerely
yah, the sound seems to be way more stronger. Well, rm1x does have in fact sickk sounds but they are all just too weak somehow... they are really bizarre and sick but they lack of power and strength...
Can u make video on how to use the su700 external sampler controlled by another device like a computer. I have no luck..midi link from my pc to su700 no sound.
It depends on external sounds but your mind distorts the sounds in real time in strange ways as seen in the video, it is a machine that can distort sounds that can be said to have a synthesis

Hello guys, does this machine have own sounds? Synthesis?
Or is it dependant on incoming external sound sources?
It depends on external sounds but your mind distorts the sounds in real time in strange ways as seen in the video, it is a machine that can distort sounds that can be said to have a synthesis
