Can we just take a second to acknowledge the fact that he put out a full on fire WITH HIS HAND.
great showmanship
Well I have many and this is by far one of the best ever.
He is such an amazing presenter, I am just going to order mine after watching and listening to him.
I think it's funny how people are ragging on mora and Dave in the comments. For some reason people think if you upload videos to CZcams you're not allowed to make money.
As for the price of the knife, get over it. It's mora's first (at least I think it is) full tank knife. People have paid far more for full tang, scandi grind knives from other companies, but if mora dares to ask for a little more you go crazy! Because you're used to and expect cheap knives from mora.
Let's take a look at the knife and accessories to see if it's worth the price. You get a full tang, 4.3 in 14C28N Sandvik stainless steel blade from Sweden (let's not forget that). So it has good edge retention and toughness and corrosion resistance. It has a 90 degree spine, and two options for sheaths. You can get a plain leather sheath with the over-the-top snap, or you can get the multi-mount molle system with a plastic sheath and the option to mount it just about anywhere. You get all that, from Sweden, for around 80 to 100 dollars. Any other companies you would probably pay 2-300 dollars and be stuck with either a plastic, kydex, cheap nylon, or a leather sheath. But you wouldn't complain about the price and say it was worth it.
Mora is offering us a pretty good price, with good steel and mounting options from Sweden, and you're ragging on a man trying to make a living and promoting a good knife? Now if you don't want to pay 100 bucks for a mora (but you're willing to pay 2-300 or more for a custom or other production?), you can find the knife for 85 on Amazon, and probably less on the web or ebay. You don't have to buy a knife straight from the manufacturer brand new out of the box. You can always buy it second hand.
You're right. The Garberg is a full tang knife with 14C28N Svedish Sandvik steel for around $75? That's a good deal.
The legend himself reviewing an excellent new piece of gear.
Like I said on your other video intro of this knife, Dave, I can't wait to get my hands on this knife. Thanks for presenting it again.
Canterbury is just awesome, guy has so much knowledge. Man i wish he was still on TV. He would make a cool hunting show
He should be one of those salesmen at SAMs Club peddling kitchen wares.
He is much better than that.
I've been waiting for a version like this for a LONG time. Props to Dave for this knife. I do however wish it came in carbon steel. Gorgeous knife!
It comes in carbon still now
Awesome Video LBS & Awesome Work Dave & Morakniv. Keep up the great work Guys. Nick.
Great knife! I'm a Mora fan and I want one!
I have a half dozen Mora knives, and didn't spend a $100.00 for all of them.. No one loves mora's more than me, and I'm sure it won't be a $100.00 dollars retail.... Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences at Shot Show 2016' with us, I appreciate it sir.
I purchased one of these knifes last year.. I use it in the bush and for hunting.. Great knife.. people bitching about a hundred dollars for this knife kills me... I own knifes that are 300 dollars that are not half as functional as the Garberg. Hard to beat Swedish steel!
My first survival knife is a Morakniv Garberg. EPIC !!!
Very useful demo. I never thought of using the spine to create tinder.
I love this knife. I use it every day.
funny how dave never carried a Mora in the past and doesn't like stainless until now. But a man's gotta eat.
+Michigan edge Been carrying Mora's off and on since 2008 photo all over the net that show that, as for stainless, rather have HC but not a bad knife for sure and many benefits in wet weather environments
+Michigan edge lol
+Emilian Tuns you got to give it to Dave tho tho it is pricey it is a nice product. I won't be getting one but compared to bear g endorsing Gerber crap, and survival girl endorsing camillus crap at least he is recommending a good product
+Michigan edge Anybody that has known Dave for a long time knows that Dave DID carry a Mora for years long before anyone even heard of him......I happen to be one of them. He used to wear a Mora around his neck as a part of his EDC. So that tells me you haven't followed Dave for very long. Second, he's only "comparing" the benefits of Stainless vs. Carbon, theirs advantages to both. He's doing us a favor by taking the time to explain the difference. Wise up Fichigan edge.
Thanks for chiming in, Dave.
About time! I'll be ordering a couple
It's always strange not seeing Dave in the woods or a work shop.
Looks like a decent piece of kit. I wonder what the Street Price will be though. I love all of my Mora's and already have the BCB. Don't know if I'll be getting one of these.
Thank you :)
For those commenting on steel and price: there is a carbon steel offering for $65 (not bad compared to other possibilities) on amazon, I just searched 'Mora Garberg' and that was the first option that came up. Unfortunately, it doesn't say what kind of carbon steel. It might be mentioned somewhere else on the internet, but I will admit to having done no searching for the answer :P
Yes, I want one! 💪🏼👍🏻
Say Heah Dave, Congrat's on your success, I remember when you we're just staring out. Infact one of your early video's was your 18" O. K. C. Machete with the Hard Sheath how you made it into one of your Survival Tool's. You come along way ,Buddy.,,.
I would have a bit more of protection for my trigger finger.
Having said that, I´ve never touched this knife, and Mora is always the winner if the price counts.
I don't understand why a full tang knife is 8 times more expensive than a rat tail tang, all else being equal...
+Brian T It's not equal. It has Dave Canterbury's name on it! Annnnd, ummm.... straps! Dave Canterbury straps!
+Brian T me neither!
remember that street price is different from the posted MSRP.
Emilian Tuns so if spyderco came out with a 15 dollar knife would that be stupid as well
+Kevinthewiseone No, that would be an addition to my knife collection :-D
Thanks again
$18 for Mora Robust. Really good knife. $48 for the Mora Black. Fantastic knife. $110 for this Garberg....which is over twice as much, and 5 times as much than the others, which are great knives in and of themselves. My only question would be are you getting that much more out of the Garberg, considering the blade profile looks nearly identical? Seems like you are probably just paying for the extra steel in the handle and a fancier sheath.
Mora please make a follow up to the Garberg with a HQ Robust blade shape. With Garberg's pommel and blade thickness. The Garberg blade shape does not rotate well for carving on a thumb swivel type of cut. Please please please!!!
Thankyou for the video. Sorry some folks are nothing but negative. Keep the vids coming. Regardless of price point whether i agree or not i will have one. Will have the HC version as well once it comes out.
People who think it's overpriced have no idea what they are talking about. The steel is better than a typical Mora, and holds an edge better, especially the Carbon. That's what you're paying for and it's a damn good deal, one of the best in it's class for a midrange knife. If you think $100 is crazy, then I must be a madman because I have a $300 knife with an even better steel.
Fast forward 2 years: this knife ended up to be one of the best and highest performing knives in the world; for a fraction of the cost that is to be expected for a good knife
tatiana arteaga woman you don’t know anything about bushcraft the only thing you know about Bush is your hairy twat
Dave, can the knife be purchased without all the mounting/carry options? In other words, can I just purchase the carry elements I want? Maybe add the other options as my needs change? I like the knife and the demo was very good. Thanks.
Very nice full tang mora
Dave Cantenbury makes great presentations.
People whine about the Mora
Is there a special compartment to hold the Snake Oil?
looks like they picked up the fällkniven concept to keep your hands off the steel in freezing cold conditions. not sure about the steel but like it!
Dave channeling Ron Popeil at Mora bushcraft booth. It Chops! Slices! Dices! Grates! Peels! Minces! Shreds! ...an all for only $89.95! But Wait, there's Mora! For $20 you get the leather pouch! lol
I'd like to see the price point down around the bushcraft black. But really like this from Mora.
Thank you for letting him talk and not interrupt his train of thought. So many people have to get their word in and ruin anything important that they would have otherwise said.
Were those Bahco knives in the background ?
I want to work for Mora. Need any reps in Michigan?
Mora out performs alot of knives at that price point, but how much better is it than my robust? I could customize my robust for a fraction of that.
Wow! I like the design and the sheath options. I had assumed it would be made of Sandvik 12c27. Dave said it is made from the most advanced stainless available. So are we looking at S35VN? If so I can see the higher price.
+Malcolm Coderre It's not. It's also a Sandvik steel: 14C28N.
+Malcolm Coderre Oh wow your having the same problem as me, my device keeps saying "unable to post comment" or some crap like that but it's actually posting and yet you don't see it and then you post again and again. Its still doing this to me like with this post I will not know it posted unless I go to the desktop, it seems its a glitch with phones and tablets. It started with multiple post and now does this comment isn't posting crap Grrrrrrrr!!!.....It sucks!!!!
+kaizoebara strange it was never mentioned.
Soslan1812
Mora posted it on facebook.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors No he said "Proprietary" but one could assume it to be a version of S35VN, which still won't match up to a 3V.
Aside from not being full tang(Well, that and not being made in the USA), despite extensive research, I have yet to find an unkind word about Morakniv. For me, the biggest selling point is that, for half the price of almost any competitor, and the weight, it's a great bare-bones knife to keep in an emergency pack. Infact, for the weight, I pack two. One for more abusive camp uses and one incase I need a good sharp knife. This new product, while I'm sure is built to Mora's standards of quality, seems like a lot of whistles and bells that can find some way to go wrong an the worst time.
I just got the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110, w/ leather sheath & i think it's a better knife then any Mora, Viva Finland!! But i still love my mora knives.but i gotta say the sheath on my Jääkäripuukko is a work of art.
Sure the Puuko 110 is a very decent knife, I have two. But I wouldn't say better than any Mora.. that's silly. It could equivalent to a similar Mora model as Mora is really one of the best companies in every regard for knives. Quality, price, reliability and functionality.
Dave or Public, What do you think of the Marine Kbar knife for survival. Thank you for your comments and recommendations
It's not too bad but its generally a fighting knife, right?
It is a huge difference in making rat tail tang by the millions than making full tang knives by the thousends (production cost, automation etc). The blade wieght is 4 x a 511 Basic blade and in a more expensive alloy, deep freeze tempering etc, etc. The price/performance is still the same - so much higher quality than any other knife in that price range.
Dave just snuffs out fire with a pass of his hand like the Navajo Black God.
Ok I'm convinced, I just bought another one so I can be a man like Dave.
carry a dmt green mini stone (1200) grit if it's good metal it will hold a edge
Love my Schrade SCHF56 off ebay for $50. I can buy two or three and have one on my hip in my go bag and my motorcycle pannier.
can we purchase just the blade ?
1 : 40 Cue smoke detectors going off and panic following lol
hey Dave how much you cost by day?
Mora's stainless steel is awesome, I prefer it to their carbon steel. MSRP $99, it will actually retail for $15-20 less I think
so all these years nobody told me I couldn't do what I was doing with my knife... Thanks for letting me know.
Dave always carried a Mora neck kinfe in past!!!
I wonder how these will do in the market place. I love Mora as working knifes for the simplicity, practicality, and value, but when we are competing directly with buck punks, TOPS BOB, Ontario Bushcraft, Higher-end Schrade, and others, I'm not sure how it will do.
I've heard that mora is an old ray mears design they dug up and now have Cantebury promoting. Wayyy too expensive. Bring it down to the price point of a bushcraft black and I'd be all over it. Even at $80 I'd be fine but over$100 no way. I hate when a company ups the price too much for a leather sheath. Condor has excellent sheaths for their price points. I would say the Mora is worth about $60 for the blade and an extra $20 for that sheath tops. I'd want it to be a carbon steel version too.
+EDC Adventures I just dont like stainless steel knives. If im going to buy stainless steel, with its relatively shitty edge retention, Ill buy a chinese model for a quarter of the price. I generally look to see what the steel is before I look at the price. But you are right. This is too much for stainless steel.
Well it would depend on the type of stainless. The 154cm Benchmades I have retain an edge very well. The Mora LMF I have is so/so. I like Stainless since I mostly practice bushcraft by a river, so it's a humid environment a lot of the time. Mora usually charges more for it's stainless because the process is more difficult. While I can understand that, I'd rather see it retail for $80 with a leather sheath and then be on amazon for say $75.
That's $100 MSRP.. The street price will be around $75
***** Which part?
+Arbhall McDougall All of it. I hope you're kidding. I have a couple stainless steel moras, and they have a super wicked edge and a sharp spine. Yes, i also have a few carbon blades as well, and honestly, there isn't much of a difference at all. If you know how to sharpen a blade, it will be as sharp as any other. All you need is a strop and some good compound. Don't know what's the big deal with carbon blades, they'll just rust faster on you and are a worry that i can't deal with at times.
my only question gary is i want a pure single bevel scandi grind which i am having a hard time getting the only one from mora close was the little companion, to me the black with the 90 deg across the whole spine was not right the back end where you put alot of thumb pressure should have been rounded, and rest sharp for ferrous rods please answer my one question is it a full scandi without a hint of a secondary like their black versions had which to me was a waste, and in not true scandi and scandi knives should be on a thin side for easy feather stripping and only the middle offf spine should be sharp for ferous rods, the black that came with an xx coarse 1.5 diamond sharpener is one way to destroy an edge, and i know you agree with that friend, please let us know i only want a single bevel scandi grind without paying a fortune
ramble on a full flat grind?
I use the clipper currently. It's a tank and I got it for £12.
I would maybe pay £25 for the full tang. In fact, probably £30 to be fair.
Ole Dave sure is a talker, isn't he? When he's talking about something it make ya wonder when he's comin up fer air! Good on Ya, Dave! Give em hell!
nice knife.
If they're going to gouge us, at least throw in a firesteel or whistle. Something, anything... They're using 14c28 stainless which they already use in some of their knives.
And a good sharpener like fallkniven dc4
+GRIFF Fire steel would be nice touch.
I think this one takes the nitrogen quench, so probably more expensive heat treatment, still more cheaper than a falllkniven by half though.
Could have been a great video if you had zoomed out a little to see his hands and what he was doing with the knife !
Hello, I want to know from you because I see that you know your stuff, please tell me if you really think Eldris and Garberg knives are very good knives, I bought Eldris myself now and I really like this knife, I wish it was a 3mm blade, tell me also what do you consider the best cut for a knife that would be rather strong and solid structure ..? On your neck I also see a different Neck 😉 nice shape write what kind of knife is it or can be bought in series ...? I cordially greet you ... 👊🏻👍👌🏻
1:50 Wizard! Seize Him! He put out the fire with his bare hand! Guards! lol
14c28n is a great steel
I recognized the name but didn't know who they were talking about until further into into the video.
What makes Mora's so great is there low price point. my Morakniv Companion is a great knife. 15 dollars against 65 on amazon.
Good words and price but amazon is the cull of the USA economy.
120$ is the test price. They will see how much Dave was able to pull Mora from the inexpensive knives status and will adjust to the public reaction. My guess is that the knife will be sold between 65-70$. Which is plenty. Shrade is still the best affordable option available. Followed by Condor. But pay attention to Buck Knives now for affordable great knives. They have several awesome new models now around 60$.
What kind of steel from Mora would justify that price? M390? CTS, Hap 40? What's it comparable to? I could justify it in that case but it's got to be a premium steel.
+Oblivion Tactical 14C28N sandvik
+Leaderilaos “LC33” Chaqal thanks a lot! I'll look in to it.
I have the MoraKniv Companion in stainless steel and though it only retailed for $15 bucks U.S., it is as good in quality durability, sharpness, and edge retention as any $100 dollar knife on the market. So with a higher quality steel, a 90° degree spine, and leather sheath, I would easily pay $110 for this one.
Is it just me, or is this like a Mora take on the F1? Particularly when paired up with the fold over sheath.
I agree with what many others have said that it is rather pricey. I'll be sticking with my Condor Bushlore as a primary outdoors blade and my HD Companion which lives on the side of my pack as a backup.
Morakniv Garberg And Vintage Morakniv Forest Exclusive 311 Design Very Similar..
What part of MSRP do people not get.
I hope this knife will retail for less than the MSRP...I also hope they make a carbon version available by time its on sale! I love Moras and own quite a few but this new one with the much awaited full tang seems to be more of a marketing gimmick than the value driven knives Mora is known for...
is that the guy from ... the two guys, one is cody and the other is bla. thats him? liked both in that tv show most. the others werent so nice to look.
ok questions now: what will be the price point in euros? and will it be available in carbon steel too?
I'm surprised they didn't get Cody to do this.
stainless is fine!
A lot of negative comments about the price - which today is a lot less than launch price. People said they like Mora knives, but wanted a full tang... they produced one. Look at it this way, you can pay the same price for a worse knife. $60-70 for a good quality full tang knife is not bad. Is it better than their cheaper ones? That’s up to the person buying.
Rodney terry His comment on here is the best and the most honest .
he's never liked stainless but in his real early videos i seen him use mora
Dont get me wrong I love Mora an really want a garberg .but the screwed the handle no rubber like on all the other moras. 😫
I think I'll wait for the carbon steel model
you know they will make it too any true bushcrafter would prefer it for it's fire properties
OH, Dave's latest flavor of the month!!!
Dave missed his calling as a sales guy! ; )
don't know what I find more pathetic in the comments here. that apparently Mora aren't allowed to make a more expensive good quality knives or that Dave Canterbury isn't allowed to like it or promote it even though he has stated from the very early years that he likes Mora knives. Mora and Dave have both shown a high standard of integrity, before you start typing try and remember that please
is he working for mora
Funny how Dave has hated stainless his whole life until now...
+shcmoly Still rather have HC, and Mora is aware of that, however this steel has merit and it's ONLY true draw back is spark ability with a ROCK, not a huge trade off honestly for this type od steels quality
+Emilian Tuns Your comments can stay, but you're outta here.
+The Late Boy Scout Can you atleast explain why? I can fully see the logic of banning an abusive commenter.... But banning a guy that just shares his opinions? How can a guy like you, a huge proponent of the 2nd Am, and probably the 1st Am, ban a guy just for saying his peace? Sucks to say but it almost seems like a "Oh hes talking down to another guy like me who makes money off youtube? Yep hes gone, not gonna risk my money maker" type situation. Are YOU making money off this knife somehow man? When it gets to the point that youtube guys are defending eachother for the sake of ensuring their profits then theres something wrong.
+tronclay well I am not TLBS but, I can tell you why I would ban him
1. he called Dave a liar and called others stupid for wanting a 80 dollar knife.
2. Saying that Dave is being paid by Mora to advertise the knife when he is not and has addressed the issue on his own channel.
3. promoting a knife that is 10 dollars more than the Mora will probably bee.
Being rude is not helpful and in my opinion is a ban-able offence.
+Emilian Tuns +shcmoly +tronclay if all you all watched davids video of the mora knov. on his channels would have seen that he talks about advantages AND
disadvantages of the stainless steel and he says that that is not a
bushcraft knife that fullfill his standard, and yes i too think that
stainless steel is not good for a buskniv. and david himself doesn't say
it should be your primary blade but he always talks about backup blade
Will make certain I scratch this knife right off my list...
Like it but just not going to pay that for a mora
Mora knives overall are affordable quality "budget friendly" knives.
+The Smart Budget Channel That's my take on it. And Morakniv has built a huge loyal following on just that. Why are they trying to outsmart the simplicity, that has served them so well, by throwing in a sheath with a bunch of unnececary whistles and bells?
yup. Stick to what they know and all should be well.
2:25 Kydex is not a good option for wet and sandy but leather is because leather "repels" sand?? 5:55 The "highest quality stainless steel in this knife that you can possibly get". Good job Dave, just keep reciting what you've been told.
I stay away from carbon steel,so this knife for its functionality appeals to me.If it retails for about 75$ ,being full tang ,tough, not made in China and good steel I don't see too many alternatives here.
Dave, you seemed determined to continue to call this knife a backup knife despite its full tang--which you feel is essential. At this point, what keeps you from calling it a primary knife?
Stainless steel likely.
Is no one gonna say anything about him just palming so fire xD
Dave is the MAN!!!
dave tou the man brother still the best dual survival member
I think everyone is missing the point that other production knife companies, if Mora was a design not a brand in itself, would be hundreds of dollars, like imagine the new Spyderco Mora MSRP $350! The fact a standard Mora is low cost, and now this one comes with an innovative carry system and only retails for $99 is bargain! A lot of commenter's are coming off a cheap skates...you want a cheap knife to hang on your belt go to the dollar store!
