$5k worth of sandpaper later and 500 hours of my life I have a $5 coaster to show off to friends. I think I'd rather leave it as it is when first done with no sanding and it's still shiny.
Prepare your work area, put your favorite music, a good chair and just enjoy your work. If you have a small electric sander(like an orbital sander or a vibrator sander) you can speed up the process considerably. Once you have the first one polished the new molding will be polished too. Good luck and have fun!
Finally how to video where I don't have to listen to someone telling me their life story before they get on with showing me what I am watching the video to see in the first place.
This video is the most basic polishing video. If you have a power tool, you can speed up the polishing process. If your resin works have small scratches, you can even start from 2000 😊
I know I'm very late, but if you try to sand something rough with fine grit sandpaper, the sandpaper will clog really quickly, so you'd essentially be wasting it.
@@BuzzingFish So is it even necessary to start with a coarser sandpaper? I would think just starting with something finer would make more sense. Or am I missing something?
@@carms.creative Resin often doesnt set with a perfectly flat top surface. Starting out rough on flat surface will help flatten the resin surface and make for a good mirror finish.
0.5 micron diamond lapping paste you can get it equal to 10,000 upto 100,000 I go upto 60,000 on opals which is unseable to the eye each thing you work with can require a different product ect
Thanks for sharing. I’m curious what it looked like before? Is this method used if something is dull and scratched? Can certain sanding grits be skipped to polish quicker? Thank you.
I love your work, it's always creative and well finished... But I have to tell you, you have very beautiful hands! I always end up thinking that they are as beautiful as your art ;-) A compliment all the way from Belgium
This must be the only video i have ever seen where someone explains how to do this properly unlike other people who have never showed me properly how to get a good shine like this and I use epoxy resin all the time and have tried so many times to get it right over and over again and still i can't get it to come back again like this super shine and just stays dull and scratched looking and cannot see through it
@@annaroshin1459 Thank you a lot, to be good at work, patience is the first priority. I think you also have patience, you can make it better than me. 😊
This is the process, for sure.... but it doesn't have to be so exact and time consuming, every time, unless you messed up when you're working with epoxy. You don't always have to go grit by grit, from a 400 to a 10,000. Work your way there but always finish with a 10k and a polish. I generally start at 1000 grit. Go to 3000, then 5000, then 10000, then finish with a polish. But the key is to not have mistakes before starting. If you get a bug or a hair or a bubble because you didn't use your heat gun... start at 150.
First off, this is beautiful and like everyone else said you did a great job sharing the whole process 👏. But now I have question, once I use polish in the end won't it cause the coaster to be to slick to hold a drink?
@@josephjohn7209 IDK...I’ve gone to 1200 (bored as hell with the clogged resin sandpaper) and then polished with the stuff I always used for gold and silver...but it’s STILL not right! Will go back, yet AGAIN and see what’s up! I didn’t want to go higher on the grit, but.... AND, still have to find out why my castings look watery on the inside. They are perfectly cured, just not crystal clear!
