It’s so lovely to see how your entire energy has shifted in the last few updates about him. It is hard work, and you’re putting in so much effort that you deserve to also have that balance with cuddles and fun playtime and I’m so glad to hear that you get both now, both training time and just enjoying him. Dogs learn so much through playing too, and just sitting together is a form of training too - teaching them to have that off switch that is needed when you’re on a train together or whatever you might do when you need him to just relax. He’s gorgeous and I’m currently taking a nosework class with my 8 month old cocker and I would so recommend it! There are nosework kits you can buy online as well if you want to train at home, but for us it’s been nice to join a class so that you get to spend some time with other puppy owners too.
As for the separation anxiety I was advised by my breeder to literally make that trip to the cinema and go to the gym and supermarket as normal as soon as possible because then it doesn’t take them long to accept and trust that you always come home again eventually. I got a Tapo camera and with the app I could see and hear her on my phone when I was out so I knew she was safe and once I saw that she just went to sleep I felt confident and could relax when I left the house. I hope it gets easier for you soon but wow what a gorgeous boy he is and it’s been so great to be able to follow along on your journey while having my own cocker puppy that’s a little bit younger. There are definitely hard days and good days but I’m sure you will have more and more good days as time goes by. Thanks again for sharing so openly! X

This is a great informative video. I also got a puppy, a golden retriever, back in April. She is now 8 months old. And it’s been one of the hardest things I have ever done! And I’m a single mom of 3! Lol. I definitely would say I was naive, even after my research. I definitely suffered from puppy blues the first 6 weeks or so of having her. Getting a puppy is not a decision to take lightly. Im happy to say that things have been easier as she’s gotten older and we have a new normal. We love her tons and can’t imagine life without her now. But definitely life changing.

So lovely seeing you and Oakley having cuddles together, you definitely seem more relaxed than in some of your earlier videos with him. Our working cocker is 16 weeks now, the honesty in your videos is so helpful :)

I think this is my favourite Oakley video of yours. I always appreciate your honesty but this one it's nice to see that things are starting to work out for you and you seem happier! I have a 4month old cocker and I'm experiencing some of the issues you mentioned, so it gives me some hope that some things do get better. It's been great following your journey with Oakley. Congrats on your 1 year milestone.

Glad you've found a better balance for the three of you :) all trial and error and puppies are REALLY hard work so well done! Lead training videos would be good!
