When my ex was cheating on me, I didn’t have the guts to leave him. He lied, he apologized, he’d stop and relapse. He knew what it did to me and still pretended he loved me. The night I realized this was toxic was when I put this song on, which I had been listening to religiously to cope with the pain, and sat down at my desk beside his desk, sobbing while drawing. I drew a picture of girl with a black void in the middle of her chest. Her hair was disheveled and she had tears running down her cheeks. It was me. He knew it was me. He sat there playing his game, periodically glanced at me cry, no emotion on his face. I played the song on loop for around 20 minutes. He came over once I turned it off, kissed me on the cheek, whispered “I’m sorry” and went to bed. When I think of what happened, I don’t think of the screenshots I took of his lies or the manipulation or gaslighting or calling me crazy, I think of how he watched me hurt. He ignored it. He pushed it away. Gave me the least amount of words he could muster before leaving again. Just to game and sleep. I was unimportant. This song captures that feeling perfectly-someone who willingly wounds you and labels themselves the dagger, as if that’s who they are and all they can do. As if the loving affections “I love when you smile” or whispers at night were nothing. As if the abusive one hears the world’s noise and takes it out on the ones within their arms. It’s been months, and I know it will be decades or even my entire life before I could understand the cruelty it takes to watch someone you love fall apart. Or make someone believe you love them and still continue as they fall apart.

the song that makes you see through all that masks the cruelty of hurting those who love you. lying, disposing the best of them. if only such people could get what you feel, listening to this. it's their lack of comprehension, compassion and absolutely no remorse after bringing deadly pain to the closest people of yours. that is messed up, but this song makes you feel like there's something beyond the pit you're in, makes you see that the void is in you. sometimes you just got to push yourself and quit. this hits hard but you're living your life in the first place. hope you recover. you don't even need to feel your ex, he was monstrous, your lovely heart has to just find love in this world and share it. understanding the bad won't bring you happiness, be yourself, don't toughen up in a way you feel nothing, isn't it better to rather fight for being happy with your tooth and nail
@@shamatric I can't believe it has only been 2 months since I wrote that! I have definitely recovered. Thank you so much, it was a lesson learned for sure lol. I actually found someone new who treats me the complete opposite and it feels like everything is working out. Bless you :)
