    Thanks for showing us this. I am taking out all of my lilies because of deer damage. I am replacing them with yarrow which I started two years ago. There is one that is floppy and has doubled in size. This helps greatly to understand what to do. And I will not fertilize. I will use compost though because I have awful soil.

      I too, am a Yarrow lover, just bought some over the weekend. They are not that common in Kenya, so the colour varieties are limited. Enjoy your Yarrow plant.

    Did the yarrow come back and bloom that year? I'm trying to find out if I can prune it back without losing the blooms. I just planted mine in the Fall and it's a huge mass!

      Hi, what i did with my Yarrow I moved them. Where I had originally place them, they did well in the beginning and once the tree got bushy they became scragy due to less sun.
      I then decided move them to my backyard garden a month ago. once they are up and running will definately post on the Redsoil Instagram page.
      Prunning the Yarrow, you can remove the dead flowers or you can also cut down the central stem to about four inches above the ground. it will pick up again.

    Can I cut my Cana back as well ?

    • @redsoilgardener
      @redsoilgardener  Před rokem +2

      Hi, Usually I would prune back Cannas if they get a lot of foliage, this would allow the babies that are sprouting to get a chance to get sun and develop. When you get too much foliage there is a chance that the plant develops Rust which is a fungal infection ( We did an episode on Rust).
      The other reason to prune back is when the plant i.e. the Rhizomes get over crowded. I would then cut it down and uproot the Rhizomes and replant, spacing the Rhizomes.
      The third reason for pruning is when you are preparing the plant for winter.

    I just planted 6 yarrow plants in the fall but now I think I planted them too close together 🥴

      I understand as I have done that in the past. Do you normally leave them outside overwinter or do you dig them up and bring them in?
