  • On a recent trip to Northern Ireland, I fancied going for a dip so decided to seek out some swim buddies. I spotted that the Brompton Belles and Beaux facebook group is very active and that they meet regularly, so I took in the sights from Bangor to Brompton and went along to meet them, spotting other swimspots along the way. Thank you for making me so welcome and sharing your cake! I'll be back...

How lovely to see that you showed some of Bangor, as you made your way along towards the coastal path.
I’m from N Ireland and live in a small coastal village, Ballyhalbert, which is just further along the coast from Bangor. The group I go swimming with is called Burr Point Buoys. Burr Point harbour is actually N Ireland’s most easterly point and you can access the sea from the harbour or using a slipway just beside the harbour. We normally use the slipway. We too have a mixed bunch and you’ll find many swimming groups along the coast.
The coast line is called the Ards Peninsula and has the Irish Sea on my side and Strangford Lough on the other, which I’ve also swam in.
You commented on how friendly everyone is and anywhere you go in N Ireland you’ll find the same. We are a very friendly bunch and generally the majority of us will always say hello as we pass by strangers. My husband is Scottish and he loves that even young people here will say hello.
Lovely to have our part of the UK being shared ❤❤ Karen

Hi Karen, thanks for watching. I know Burr Point harbour at Ballyhalbert, I was there for a few hours on the weekend! Such a beautiful spot, if I'd have had a car and not reliant on a lift I'd have been in for a dip, the water was beautiful. Northern Ireland has so many swimming oppotunities with such gorgeous scenery. I can't wait to come back!

The castle and the walls are part of seacourt which used to be a teacher training location. You passed Jenny Watts cave on the way to Brompton as well. This path was my world as a kid. Anyone who grew up here in the eighties will remember being caught by the Parkie and his dog for riding bikes on the path. Summers were spent in Pickie Pool which was freezing and occasionally jumping off the pier. Long way down when the tide was out….Over to Paul’s chipshop for a chip butty with thousand island to warm up at lunch time. Miss those days, thanks for the memories…..

I had heard of seabins before, so it was really cool to see one in the marina, in action, maybe! I couldn't believe how many people were etting in the water in both swim spots and the mix of swimmers too. I real breath of fresh air. I hope you're enjoying the water 🏊😀

Rachel… the scenery!! The town, the streets, the church and its chiming bells, the architecture, and a CASTLE!! I’ve never seen anything like it. I cannot believe you went swimming with a castle in view. Like you mentioned, I was impressed with the infrastructure in that particular area to support outdoor swimming. My bestie from my uni days (going way back here) married an Irish dairy farmer and moved to Northern Ireland decades ago. I have never been to visit them… this inspires me!! I need to check out a map as soon as I finish typing this comment. I really look forward to seeing what you come across in Wales. I would go there just to eat Welsh Cakes everyday🤣. Thanks for this great video today. Please keep ‘em coming. Ⓜary💦🏊‍♀

Hey Mary how cool that you have an NI connection. It is a swimming paradise over there, with a swim spot at every turn. Not having a hire car this time got me out and about on foot to check out the local area. Wales will be lovely, May even fit in a waterfall dip! Hoping you get an early thaw 🌅❄️💦🏊‍♀️😀
