I did the Copic inks on Yupo a few months back at my local art store. They had a demo where we could try it. We also used colourless blender solution in a waterbrush and that allowed us to remove / push colours away in select places. That was a lot of fun!

Hi Sandy,
I wrote to Yupo and discovered that one can even do encaustic painting on Yupo. So it can take heat up to 175 degrees Celcius.

I just love the leaf one, not sure I would have the patience to use this paper b/c I love quick and easy to dry. However this paper is so cool. I can't wait to see what you come up with. love this video!!!!

I did just watch Tim Holtz do his demo just before I watched yours, and he did say that you can heat set this paper. He stamped on it and said you can heat set it to make it permanent. Just wanted to share that. He was the one who contacted Yupo, and convinced them that we crafters needed this medium and did an amazing demo as well, if you haven't watched it yet, you would love it :-)

FYI, to seal Alcohol Inks, wait one week to let the inks cure, lightly spray your artwork with Krylon Kamar Varnish spray, let that dry for at least 15-30 minutes then give it several light coats of Rustoleum 2X Clear Gloss UV Resistant Varnish or Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Gloss Varnish Spray or something comparable, wait 15-30 minutes between coats. Wait one week before matting and framing behind glass.

I've been using Yupo with alcohol ink. I've done some wonderful paintings. I wanted to get some new ideas. I tried watercolor on Yupo and I had the same issues with it moving too much. I hadn't thought about taking some off. Thanks

So cool. I have been testing the alcohol inks on vellum and using the Ranger ink blender with felt squares to play. I have Yupo paper somewhere in this house, I just have to find it. This is very interesting. I've also seen the alcohol inks on tiles, very pretty, and even set on fire! A little scary, but a beautiful effect. I love that you experiment with everything. I guess it's your art background. Keep on testing!!

About the alcohol ink on Yupo...if you allow it to dry at least overnight you can wash the surface with a detergent such as Dawn and a soapy sponge which will take off the "tacky" sticky feel. I used it without washing and it just smudged onto my white card stock. Wash and dry it and you loose very little color but it is then safe to make a card with.

They are all beautiful but yes that last one I definitely would have loved to see but I'm sure it would be a time lapsed video that was still an hour long so yea lol. As much fun as it looks I would never have the patience for that and this just confirms what I always suspected, you have the patience of a goddess lol. Tfs Sandy!

I put a bunch of colour on my Yupo and die cut leaves out of it.. works great.

Joggles shows videos using the ranger heat tool very carefully, about 6 inches away from the surface to dry. Embossing is out, because that takes too much heat.

Hi Sandy! You make everything look easy because you're crazy talented! To me this paper seems very hard to work with for a novice such as myself. I liked the leaf design best, but the first few examples with copics and alcohol inks looks like microscope slides of cells from biology class...:( Thanks for the demonstration, as always you are a joy to watch!

I did a cat drawing on Yupo; it's hard since it doesn't soak into the paper, but look for Magical Monday Punch.

Nice video! Thanks. I’m looking for an alternative to alcohol inks. I think maybe the liquid watercolours may be fun to try... do you get the same gloss and vibrancy on the yupo with these as you do with the inks?
Any watercolor does take a really long time to dry-but I’m sure the phnartins could be beautifully vibrant.

could you use alcohol instead of water to freeze the splash look that you like. it just evaporates quicker so only an idea I could be way off.
What about a hair dryer on the cool setting? Do you think that would work to help it dry faster? Linda

How fun - great art! How do you preserve the art - so it does wipe off - ? spray varnish? or ?

I used Satin Krylon and it made it speckled - so did Matte varnish
Once you complete a card do you spray it with any kind of sealant to make it permanent after it dries? Your work is beautiful! I've only used watercolors so I wasn't sure if the alcohol inks were permanent or not.
I haven't on these, the alcohol won't move with water.

Thanks that is good to know. There is a gal here locally(northern Calif) who does beautiful work with the alcohol inks, her sunflowers are breathtaking! I'm not sure if she uses the Yupo or not I'll have to ask her next time she comes into our lss. Thanks again for sharing these tutorials they are so helpful!
Is there any way of fixing the color after you get something you really like and it is thoroughly dry? It seems a shame to have something that if something get spilled on it (or the cat licks it) it is completely ruined.
You can usually go back and rework anytime. I say usually because I've found that some mediums lightly stain Yupo---so if you have art with white space, it can be challenging to go completely back to white.
+Sandy Allnock , I was asking because I do not want to send a card to someone, have them like it so much that they want to frame it and then have a drop of water ruin it. I do not want to rework it, I want it to stay put after I get it where I want it. Thanks for answering so quickly above.
"I don't know how I did this" That sounds soooo familiar. Always have your video running. You can always just "poof" delete it. That way you can trace back your steps. That's what I do, or I take stills while doing things. Video is easier though. OOXXOO Linda

Not sure, never tried dye reinkers. Colorburst are simliar to brusho.
Hi, I was wandering if you can move the colour afterward, would it be ok to make a card out of it, would it be safe?
With alcohol inks 100%. With watercolor, the same as anything else---if the recipient spills on it, the color will move.
Have you tried regular India ink on Yupo if mixed with rubbing alcohol?

It’s a Copic marker that’s clear-the refill for it is liquid.
